008 Family Dinner 1

Minutes later they were all set. They got out of their apartment building and hailed down a taxi to the military base.

Their father was a Lieutenant-general in the army. He had been posted to head the B city Military command when Liu Qiao Qiao and Liu Qinyang were 6 and 4 respectively. They grew up in the military residence.

Civilians weren't allowed into the base without clearance. When they arrived at the base, the driver came to a stop at the gate and they both got out.

After settling the tab with the taxidriver they walked over to the security post at the gate for the routine security check.

The soldiers on shift at the security post were all be new and unfamiliar with Liu Qiaoqao and Liu Qinyang

They were still getting cleared when the door was pushed open and a middle-aged man in military uniform walked into the room.

As soon as he walked in, the soldiers present all stood at attention and performed the hand salute to the military official. Which indicated that the official was of a higher rank than the other soldiers.

"Welcome back Sergeant" the soldiers all chorused.

"As you were" he replied walking forward.

"Visiting time is almost over why are they still civilians entering the base? he asked looking at the civilians present.

There were only Twelve civilians including Liu Qiao Qiao and Liu Qinyang getting cleared. Visiting hours would be over in thirty minutes.

Civilians weren't allowed in after visiting hours. Only family members of military officials currently residing in the Military residence and civilians working on the base.

To enter one had to show their clearance, the civilian staff showed their Identity card while the residents had to show their residence permit.

"Sir we are still trying to clear the departing civilians. A few of the arrivals have residential permits and are undergoing clearance.

"Okay, you may continue. No one without a residential permit should be cleared. Is that clear?

" Yes Sir"

Sergeant Ye walked over to her station and resumed his work.

Liu Qiaoqiao and Liu Qinyang were still getting cleared when her phone began to ring.

"Sorry I have to take this," she said phone raised to check who was calling. it was an upcoming call from her father. She swiped the screen and brought the phone up to her ear.

"Hi dad"

"what's keeping you Qiaoqiao, Your mother and is almost done with the food. You both left your apartment long ago"

"We are already at the base dad. We are still getting cleared"

"You both have your residence permit with you, right?

"Yes we do, we are still getting processed" she replied gently.

"This is taking much longer, I will send someone to get you"

"No wait there's no need for that we are__," she said when the call was cut.

Typical he didn't even give her a chance to complete her sentence when he cut the call. Her father Liu Jiahao was used to giving orders but no much listening to people. You were asked a question.

If he said he would send someone he would that wasn't up for discussion.

Five minutes later Commander Gu their father's longtime subordinate walked into the room. As he walked in the soldiers all stood at attention including the Sergent until they were dismissed.

"what brings you here Commander Gu? sergeant Ye asked

"I'm here to pick up Lieutenant General Liu's daughters. They returned home for a visit" Commander Gu replied walking forward to where they sat he said fondly

"Sorry for keeping you waiting I was going through a training session with the recruits when your father called"

He had worked for over a decade under the Lieutenant-General so he was very familiar with them He had watched them grow up.

"It's all good uncle Gu we don't mind at all. You must've been busy with work" they replied standing.

"if I had known you were coming over for dinner I would've informed the security post earlier. That way it won't take this long for you to get cleared"

"oh there's no need for you to do that" Liu Qiao Qiao and Liu Qinyang said at the same time.

"if you say so" he replied.

Turning back to the Sergent he said

"Ah, that's right let me introduce you two to Sergent Ye. That way we can avoid something like this from happening in the future.

Sergeant Gu theses are Lieutenant General Liu's children Qiaoqiao and Qinyang"

"Hello, I sincerely apologize for keeping you two waiting," sergeant Ye said.

They walked out of the room and got into Commander Gu's standard military Hummer and headed to their parent's house.

The military residence was further into the base so minutes later they arrived at their house.

"Thanks for the pick-up uncle Gu" they chorused as they got down from the car.

"no need for that girls it's been a while since we talked this allowed us to catch up on everything" Commander Gu replied.

"Once again thanks for the ride, take care of yourself"

"Yeah, I will, send my regards to the Lieutenant-general and your mother. I would have come in but I have a previous engagement"

"we will do that's uncle Gu"

"Alright got to go. see you later" he said starting the car.

"bye uncle Gu" they staring by the entrance waving as he drove away.

When his car was no longer in sight they turned around, walked up to the front door, and rang the bell.

A few seconds later the door was pulled open, Ren Jiang, their mother

"Qiao Qiao and Yang's you're finally here what held you up? their mother Ren Jiang said cheerfully.

"Hey, mum" they both replied smiling wide.

"What are you waiting to come in. Dinner is already set, your father is waiting at the garden" she stepped aside to let them in.

When they were inside she shut the door and pulled them into a tight hug. She missed her girls.

"How are you my little munchkins," said Ren Jiang hugging them tightly.

"Good how are you and dad"

"much better now that you are both backs. Qinyang we haven't seen you in almost two months.

Qiao Qiao you, on the other hand, haven't been back in a month even though you were completely free" Ren Jiang said pulling them back to giving them a thorough inspection.

"Sorry about that mum"

"This better not happen again. You have no idea how worried I was about your safety. It's not safe for two unmarried girls in the city alone maybe you should move back home.

Qiaoqiao since you aren't doing anything why don't you come back home and stay with your dad and me I. Instead of staying at your apartment all day you can accompany me at the flower shop" she said

"Actually about that mum, I have good news," Liu Qiao Qiao said.

"Yes mum" Liu Qiaoqiao replied

"let's talk about this further while we eat. You two go say Hi your father, he's out in the garden reading a book. Please call him in dinner is almost is already set. We'll be eating dinner done" she said smiling widely.

Ren Jiang was a very beautiful woman. She had very delicate features that were very pleasing to the eye so when she smiled as she did right now. Her face brightened up and almost sparkled one could few her joy a mile away.

"Yes mum," said Liu Qiao Qiao and Liu Qinyang cheerfully. Their mother was in a hurry to check on the desert and they didn't wish to keep her any longer.

"Alright, I will go check the desert. see you soon" She said rushing into the kitchen.

Luckily the food wasn't burning when she arrived. she turned off the fire, pulled it out of the oven, and transferred the content to a serving dish.
