Chapter 2: Before it all Went Wrong pt.2

Following his dreams led him straight to Mary Ann Felis, his current wife. She was stunning to say the least. Her hair was that of a gorgeous gold and flowed down her back, right to her knees. She had almond-shaped blue eyes that seemed as if one was staring into the ocean. Her lips were plump and her cheekbones were a little bit chubby, enough to make her seem absolutely cute when she wanted to be.

Her personality was amazing as well. She was sweet and bubbly, but fierce when she needed to be. Mary Ann was able to attract a wide variety of people to her side. He felt like a fool for not noticing the signs sooner.

They met when Jacob's car broke down near his apartment and she pulled over to help him out. They easily got to talking, exchanged numbers, and became close friends. Eventually, Jacob asked her out after a year of knowing one another, taking her out on an expensive date to a nearby steakhouse. For Jacob, it was love at first sight honestly, but he was also scared to risk his first close friendship. Mary Ann revealed that she too was stricken at first glance, which is why she pulled over in the first place.

From then on, the two were inseparable. By their second year together, Jacob saw it fit to introduce her to his parents by arranging for her to visit him in California over winter break. Mary Ann was stunned to say the least when she introduced to his mother and father, well especially his father who was her favorite director.

His parents honestly fell in love with her as well, which was great for Jacob. He worried that they would find her lacking in some form, but his worries were for nothing. Something had changed however, after winter break.

Maybe he should have noticed the sudden change in her attitude, from wanting picnics in the park to demanding he take her on expensive shopping trips. Blinded by love, he easily complied to her demands. It wasn't as though she was being outrageous in any way, she was simply a bit more materialistic than he remembered.

As time went on, the deeper he fell for her and eventually, he was stuck with tunnel vision. It easily explained why he never noticed the way she would glare at him when he was in her direct line of view.

After three years of dating, he happily proposed to her under a moonlit dinner. At first, he wanted to propose to her at their first date spot but somehow, he came to terms with the fact that she would simply no longer like that.

They didn't truly stay engaged for long, as Mary Ann wanted to get married asap. One of his marriage gifts from his mother was shares of her company. The shares were at least 30% of the company, which would have been frowned upon normally but Elena had a great standing as the CEO and her board knew she wouldn't screw them all over. Honestly, these sudden red flags should have been alarming enough but what can one say, love can easily be blind.
