Something is Off

"It was a task Mr. Durfort tasked me with," I said as I tried to come up with the best excuse possible.

Cassandra studied me closely, he eyes narrowing as she tried to find the lie in my words.

"Something is off about you," she said as I slowly took my phone out of my pocket, ready to call my cousin to deal with his assistant.

"I don't know what you are talking about," I huffed.

She observed me wordlessly.

"You're not here to work for Mr. Durfort, are you?" she asked, making me tense. "Mr. Durfort never needed another secretary, he has enough and we can manage the work. Also your resume never passed through my hands, and everything passes through my hands."

Shit. She figured it out.

"Look, Cass—"

"He's training you to be his cousin's assistant!" she declared.

I quickly covered her lips and looked around, acting my part.

"Let's talk somewhere else," I said as I glanced in the direction of Lexington's office.
