It was already 1:30 pm and no news about Roselle and Nate had come. Santiago's muscles kept tightening each moment that passes by. The police have been conducting their investigations. But still, she and Nate were nowhere to be found.
Santiago reached for his phone and auto-dialled Mark's number who was one of the private investigators he hired for the case, but got his voicemail instead, "Hey, I'm busy now, leave a message and I will respond later." This got Santiago angrier and he switched off the phone and smashed it angrily on the wall.
Roselle's secretary, Mia, who was standing at the doorway flinched in fear as he saw Santiago couldn't control his anger.
This was his first time seeing his boss this angry. "Sir, please calm down, I believe the police are doing their best to save ma'am Roselle and Nate." Mia consoled Santiago.
Instead of Mia's consolation to comfort Santiago, he boiled more in anger. "Shut up Mia! What have the police done so far? It's 2 pm already but Roselle is still nowhere to be found. And you want me to calm down?!"
"But sir, wailing in anger won't solve the problem." At this statement by Mia, Santiago sprang towards him. Dragging him, he pressed him against the wall. "I believe this will solve the problem better right?!" Santiago yelled.
Mia could feel his eyes bugging out. Calming his boss was the only crime he committed to receive this kind of punishment. "Sir, I'm sorry. Please let me go." Mia begged.
"Let you go, huh?!" Santiago squeezed Mia's neck harder.
Just then Lana ran into the office. "Please stop! Santa that's enough, you're hurting him." She ran towards him and pulled him out, stopping him from hurting Mia more.
Mia held his neck, running out of Santiago's office.
"Santiago, you have to calm down. Don't hurt innocent people because of what happened," Lana said. Her soft tone calmed his nerves a little bit.
"I can't find her, Lana. I can't find your sister, can't you see?" Santiago sobbed.
Slowly, Lana secured him in a hug. After some minutes, she released him in their hug and her eyes averted to the door where some of the workers had stood watching them. They nodded approvingly at her for helping them calm him.
Since Roselle had been declared missing, Santiago had not stopped destroying things in the office. They were all shocked to see him act in this manner because he was always a gentleman who was not quick to anger.
Lana nodded back at the workers and waved at them to leave. Obediently, all heads which had poked in through the door turned and began to leave Santiago's office.
"Santa, please look at me," Lana said, slowly pulling his face up to hers. "Everything is going to be alright. They will surely find my sister."
Santiago sniffed and nodded at Lana.
"I have come to show you something." She brought out her mother's phone and gave it to him.
"Mum said she called Roselle yesterday and Roselle answered the call telling mum that she was okay. This morning too, Roselle had sent mum a message assuring her that she was alright and nothing happened to her."
Santiago took the phone from Lana to read the message himself. "Then, this is more evidence to prove that Roselle had been kidnapped. The police have to know about this. I'm sure the kidnappers sent this message so that we will relax and think she is safe."
"What if it was Roselle who truly sent this message?" Lana asked. "I know how my sister acts. Roselle would be the last person to release her phone password to anyone."
"Not when a gun is pointed at her," Santiago replied.
Lana stared at Santiago for a brief moment considering what he said. Somehow she didn't want to agree with the fact that it wasn't Roselle who sent the message. But again, she had to believe it because she was not sure her sister was safe.
Mistakenly, she struck down Santiago's baby photo which was on the table. She picked it up and let her fingers linger on the photo for a brief moment. Staring at it, she saw Santiago's baby face smiling broadly at the camera and his eyes sparkled.
She placed the photo back on the table and noticed the mess Santiago had created. 'So Santiago can be this angry.' She thought to herself and bent to pick up the things Santiago had scattered in his office out of anger.
"Lana if it's okay with you, let's take this evidence to the police. Maybe this will help the police to track the kidnappers."
Lana nodded in agreement, seeing the depth of sadness in Santiago's eyes.
Santiago and Lana hurried out of the office and the attention of the office workers was drawn to them. They were scared he was leaving the office, thinking it was not safe for him to leave because he might be kidnapped too.
"Sir," One of the security men called Santiago just as he was about to enter his car with Lana.
Santiago waved at him to move back. "I have something important to take care of. Don't worry, I will be safe." He simply said and the security man backed off immediately.
"Lana, let's go."
Lana nodded and entered his car. Her mind couldn't be at ease at the thought of her sister being kidnapped. She couldn't believe that this was happening to her sister for the third time in her life.
As if Santiago read Lana's mind, he said "This is the third time this is happening to Roselle."
Lana nodded and turned to gaze at him. There was sadness in his voice, his eyes weary and tired of pouring out tears.
"Sorry, I forgot to ask, how is your mother coping with this?" Santiago asked.
"I didn't let her know about it, she will faint if she gets to know that her daughter is missing again."
Santiago nodded thoughtfully. "Not letting her know is a good idea, we can't afford to lose two at once."
Lana nodded at his saying and swallowed the lumps in her throat, thinking twice about whether she should ask the question in her mind. Though hearing his answer, she feared will make her sad. Anyway, she needed to hear the answer. "You love her so much, don't you?" Lana hit her question and her gaze fell on him again.
"A lot, I love her more than anything else." He answered sincerely, fighting to hold back his tears. His hands clung tightly to the wheel. "I'm so scared of losing her."
Lana's face went low and she unconsciously tapped her fingers on her lap. "And they have the guts to take her away from you," Lana said, not knowing she was fighting some jealousy in her heart.
Santiago took a glance at her and nodded. "The nerve of them." He replied.
Again Lana cursed herself for being jealous. But still, she had one more question to ask. She was so scared of what Santiago's reaction would be. "If it was me who got missing like my sister, will you act the same way?"
This time Santiago didn't just glance at Lana, he rolled his eyes towards her. Surprised by the question.
