Mysterious traveler

My teeth gritted as I turned, running from the onslaught of vines. They chased after me at high speeds, tailing me, getting closer and closer with each passing second. One of them shot out, aiming for my head. My ears caught the whistling winds approaching, prompting me to veer off sharply to escape as quickly as possible. The roots of the trees around me started to churn the loose soil they were encased in before shooting out toward me.

I stopped in my tracks, and dug my heels around me in a circle, causing the mud to shoot up as a protective case around me, the dry mud cracking as the roots dug into them.
