Jett didn't have to wait long for the test to be over. Gon and Kurapika soon came back with an extra creature that looked the same as the other. If it weren't because of their voices vibrating at different frequencies, Jett wouldn't be able to tell them apart. After settling down, the Rat-Fox started laughing about Gon being able to tell them apart.
"It's been a very long time since we've met anyone who could tell my wife and me apart." said the husband.
"It gives me great pleasure." said the wife.
"It was you, mister, who hit Kurapika," said Gon.
"Good, you are very nice to us." Said the wife.
"Know then that my wife and I are navigators." Husband.
"I'm their daughter."
"I'm their son."
"The wise Kurapika deciphered the meaning behind my tattoos. He knew it was a promise to marriage made to a god alone. Without knowledge of history, one would not be able to understand. Kurapika understood that we could not be husband and wife." said the daughter.
"Leorio-san understood nothing until the end. But he did give excellent medical aid," the brother said.
"As for Gon, he walked straight ahead, showing extraordinary movement and observation." Said the wife.
"As for Jett, I didn't understand why you stopped. You showed great ability like Gon," the husband said.
"Because I had already figured out that everything was a test. Like everyone here, I thought your daughter and son were the couple the old lady had mentioned, as we were chasing you Kurapika mentioned your ability to change into human form. Then I heard you speak, and with Kurapika's hint, I thought maybe the other two could do the same. If you were a mindless beast, you would have killed them, and when you saw us, you would have attacked us. Even if that wasn't the case, as a couple that lives deep in the mountain surrounded by beast, would they be so weak as to be overpowered by a beast?" Jett explains his reasoning. Everyone stares at him without saying anything.
"W...What?" Jett asks, stepping back, creeped out by their looks.
"That's incredible, Jett!" Gon said.
"Not really. The old lady said, "If they think you're okay, they'll lead you to the testing place. That could only mean that they would test us in some way or form." Jett said.
"No, it is incredible. You were able to stay calm and analyze all the information, staying two steps ahead of the situation," said the wife.
"We will take you to the testing site," said the husband. In the middle of the night, they were carried into the air. While he was a Nen and could last without sleep for a few days, Jett still liked to nap. Going to the testing site the same night would not allow him that luxury.
They arrived at Zaban just a little past morning. After walking for a while, they came into a shop called Paroxysme. Jett could remember it meant something along the lines of the top. He couldn't remember what it was, but he didn't dwell on it; he didn't think it was necessary information.
"I only see a boring restaurant," Leorio said.
"Hey, navigator, if this is a joke. It's in bad taste. You want us to believe that thousands of candidates are waiting inside.?" Leorio again.
"Precisely. No one could imagine that the place where thousands of hunter candidates are assembled is here." the rat fox said.
"Hello!" a loud greeting came from the chef.
"What would you like?" the chef asks.
"A steak." rat fox.
"How would you like that cooked?" asked the chef.
"Slowly, rare." Rat fox.
'A password. I guess you would need one, or else they wouldn't know if they were there for the exam or to eat.' Jett thought. One of the servers led them to a back room, where they had food waiting for them on a table.
"1 out of 10, 00." said the rat fox.
"That's how many make it as hunters. Have courage, my little friends. I would also be pleased to be your navigator next year." the rat fox said.
Not soon after the Rat fox left the floor started moving down like an elevator, they were all surprised at first, but after the elevator kept going they sat down to eat. Not having anything else to do, they talk. After a lengthy explanation of the ins and outs of being a hunter, which he needed to know, The elevator finally stopped at basement floor one hundred. As soon as they entered, the atmosphere was heavy; everyone turned to look at them. Jett could tell they were good, better than those in the boat and than those on the port.
"With you, there are 406." a voice came from the side, and a green creature gave them a circular badge with a number.
"Hi, I'm Tompa. It's nice to meet you. You're new, aren't you?" Tompa.
"How can you tell?" Gon.
"That's easy, this is my 35th time." Tompa.
"So, you know everyone here, Don't you?" Gon.
While listening to Tompa, Jett also watched the other applicants. He was using Gyo to see if any examines were Nen users. That was when a scream attracted everyone's attention. Jett turned to find a guy dressed like a jester with pink hair and a tear mark on his face. His clothes had the heart and the diamond mark on them, but that wasn't what Jett was looking at; this person was a Nen user.
"Gon, stay away from that guy," Jett whispered to Gon.
"Why?"Gon asks.
"He's dangerous."
Jett didn't have the confidence to win a battle against that guy. His Nen control was a lot better than his. This guy was able to change the texture and color of his Nen and even make heart shapes float in the air. Jett hadn't reached that kind of control and understanding over Nen Jett. That's to say, while he didn't have the confidence to win, it didn't mean he couldn't, especially with his hatsu. The reason he wasn't confident was experience. There was also another guy who was a Nen user; it was a strange guy with a green outfit and needles on his head. His presence was small, as if he wanted people to know he was there, but at the same time, they would quickly forget if they turned around. Jett was wary of him; he was like an assassin.
Jett had been in his thoughts that he hadn't paid attention to Tompa, not even when he was offered a juice, not that he would take it. He was sure that this guy was here to cause trouble for them, while some people may be friendly in this kind of competition, if anyone approaches you with a smile and offers you something they are one hundred percent after no good. He had been right; the juice probably had some slow-acting drug that would affect them during the exam. As for a poison that could kill them, it was possible, but it would be too obvious.
(BiBiBi)
A loud sound came from the front. A middle-aged man in a suit appears from a secret passage in the wall. This guy also knew Nen. Jett could see his aura wasn't coming out of his body naturally like the rest of the people here, except for the other two. It verified Jett's thoughts about learning nen after you become a hunter. Jett wasn't an idiot who thought that only the hunter association could teach Nen, but it was the sure way if you passed the exam.
"This way, please. Well, we'll begin with a short verification. The exam is dangerous, and there are times when you may get attacked by other applicants. There are things that can't be avoided. Now, please follow me," the examiner said. Everyone started to walk forward. A few minutes later, Jett noticed that the pace was getting faster, but he still walked at the same pace as Gon. If all they had to do was follow, it was no problem.
"I forgot one detail: I'm Satotsu, in charge of the first round. So I must lead you to the place of the second round." Satotsu said.
"The first has already begun. If you can, follow me to the place where the second round stands. You'll have passed the first. I can't tell you where or when we'll arrive. You must be content with following me." Satotsu said. Kurapika deduced it was both a physical and mental test, Jett thought the same thing, but he didn't care, running wasn't a problem. As they were running, a kid on a skateboard went past them. Jett was interested; he now had a third leading character candidate. He didn't stop searching for the main character. He searched for anyone who could be the main character the moment he came out of the elevator.
He now had three candidates. The first was Kurapika, and the second was Hisoka. He had a main character personality, but Jett wasn't sure. The third was now this kid. He had unique-colored hair. As the kid passed them, of course, the one who had to yell about things not being fair was Leorio. What was he complaining about when he was carried here the whole time? Even the old lady back on the quiz test had told him he wasn't hunter material.
"Hey, kid, that's not allowed. That's cheating." Yelled Leorio.
"Why." the kid asks.
"Why? Cause it's an endurance test!" Leorio shouted.
"You're wrong. He just asked us to follow him, didn't he?" Gon, being Gon, said. Not bothering with Leorio, the kid slowed down to match Gon's pace.
"Tell me, how old are you?" He asks.
"12," Gon said.
"Just like me. I'm also going to run." He said.
"I'm Killua." Killua said.
"And I'm Gon," Gon said. Jett was listening, but when he heard nothing else, he turned and found Gon and Killua were looking at him.
"I"m Jett, also 12," Jett said.
After 80 kilometers of running, people started falling behind. Gon, Killua, and Jett were at the front. People began dropping like flies after they reached stairs that climbed upwards. Gon started talking to Killua about his father, while Killua said that he only took the exam because he thought it would be challenging, but he was disappointed. Jett could say the same, but he also disagreed with Killua. He and Gon were doing okay, mainly because Jett had forced Gon to train with him. It was also because the flash step they had practiced needed for them to have a certain level of body strength. He was surprised Killua could keep up, but if he was the main character and had training, then that would have been different.
"You, what kind of hunter do you want to be?" Killua asks.
"Me? I still haven't decided. There is one thing, though: I'm looking to fight strong people," Jett said. Killua didn't think Jett was strong; he was actually thinking he could defeat him in one move. Jett saw Killua's look but didn't say anything. As they kept running, they were finally able to see a light. An evil thought popped into Jett's mind.
"Let's race. Whoever wins buys the other lunch," Jett said.
"You're on!" Gon.
"Okay." Said Killua.
"Okay then, at the count of three," Jett said.
"One, Two, Three." That's when Gon saw a smirk on Jett's lips.
"Wait, Jett, no cheat..." but Gon didn't finish, in an instant, Jett had taken another step and was gone in an instant. Killua opened his eyes wide, one moment he was ready to start running the next, at a distance he could see Jett land on the top, as if he had just taken the next step and the top of the stairs was the next step he had to take. His shock wasn't over because not soon after, Gon was gone in a flash, too.
"That's not fair, Jett! You meanie. You didn't say we could use Flash Step." Gon started yelling at Jett. Killua wasn't the only one surprised. Satotsu was also shocked. He had seen a blur go past him but wasn't able to tell what it was. The next thing he knew, Jett had been at the top.
There were a few others that had seen it. One person was incredibly excited, and that was Hisoka. There were others; some even tried to figure out how he could do that, and some may even figure it out, but they would never reach the level of Gon and Jett. One had to know the basic training and the principles behind the movement to learn it. That was why Jett used it; he wasn't worried about anyone learning the move. As Killua reached the top, Jett saw a complicated look on KIlluas' face. When he made eye contact with Killua, Jett smirked at him. Killua clenched his fist and had an irritated look on his face.
"What's the flash step? How did you do it," Killua asks.
"All you had to do is..." Gon started, but Jett covered his mouth with his hand.
"I could teach you, but you're the loser. You have to buy us lunch, and only when the hunter exam is over; too many ears are listening," Jett said, only making Killua more irritated. If Killua were the main character, and if they became friends, they would face danger sooner or later. Jett only wanted to teach him because the main character is the one who always becomes the strongest in the anime. Who better to fight than the main character?
As Jett said the part about people listening, he saw a bunch of people walk away from them, they had been trying to listen to what Gon would say. He could also feel a few other looks on the back of his head, but he didn't pay attention. The three started chatting and waited for the rest to arrive.
