Chapter 1: And then there was none.

Ash looked at the forest she was about to enter. Now she was regretting accepting that dare. But it was a double-dog dare. She couldn't back out!

"I hate you right now. If I die I'm going to come and haunt you forever." hissed Ash.

"I'm not scared. Haunting people is impossible. Besides, I triple dog dare you! So ha!" laughed Bill, though he was shaking in fear.

"Fine! I'll go in! Here, so you can track my movements. It'll also show you what I see."

"Okay."

"Well. Bye. See you soon. Maybe as a ghost! Boo!"

"Gah!" jumped Bill. With that Ash went into the woods.

"It's really dark. Maybe I could use my flashlight. *Click!* There. Now I can see."

"Hey Ash? Are you there?" asked Bill through the earbud.

"Yeah, I'm here. I just thought I saw the path."

"THE path? As in the mansion path?!"

"I think so. Only this one is cleaned."

"Clean? Is there someone actually living there? Wow! They must be brave!"

"You are so hopeless," whispered Ash.

"What did you say? Wow! Ash, look out!"

"What!? Ow! What was that?!"

"Oh. Sorry. I thought you were someone else. Why are you out here?" it was a werewolf, "Wait. You're a human! That is so cool! I've never seen a human before!"

"What do you mean?"

"All of the humans stay away from here. The only ones that do get to the mansion before I can stop them." whimpered wolf boy.

"You help people? What happens after they go in?"

"I don't know. I don't want to know. I can't go in. Wolves like me can't go in."

"Werewolves?"

"Yes and no. Only human wolves can."

"Human wolves?"

"Only humans turned by the ultima can."

"Turned!?"

"Yeah turned. Only alphas and the ultima can."

"Does it hurt?"

"Very. Very painful. My dad was turned by my mom. So he told me what it felt like. He went through all of his organs changing."

"Ow! That would hurt!"

"Ash?! Are you okay?! ASH!!!" yelled Bill.

"I'm fine. Just shut up."

"Excuse me?!" yelped wolf boy.

"Not you. My friend."

"Another human! Where!" wolf boy quickly searched the forest that he could see.

"He's not here."

"He? How can you hear him then?"

"He's using a microphone and earbud to hear me and so I can hear him."

"Wait. Ash? His eyes turned red! Get out of there! He's the ultima or an alpha!" warned Bill, then the wolf jumped at her and tackled her. As she struggled she heard Bill yell,

"I'm getting the police! Hold him off for as long as you can!"

'Does he actually care? I mean he's bullied me for years and years. But I was never bullied by anyone other than him. Lilly said that he would beat up the people who tried to bully me. Does he like me? Rachel said he blushed when I was new here and didn't get on the bad side of Max. Man, I hate Max! What was that whistling noises?'

At that very moment, she was distracted.

'She let down her guard! Now! Kill her!' lunging wolf boy snapped at her, whirling around, she managed to punch him a couple of times in the jaw before he hit her.

'How the heck can they move that fast!' they thought at the same second.

Getting out of the daze that he hit her she swung a kick at his head that connected with a hit that shook her leg.

*Thud!*

Ignoring the dart that just missed her and wolf boy here. She twisted his arm behind his back and reached for the knife she made herself. Cutting his arm instead of his back when he twisted around.

"OW! That hurt! You'll regret that!" He backed up slowly. Ash would have followed him, but despite what everyone thought that she was a little weak girl. She could actually fight. She had to protect her parents from the crazy guy that came into their house saying that her dead baby sister was his wife. She died when she was two years old! She could run longer than everyone but not faster. She could shoot a bow and arrow better than the king's hunter's son that she met years ago. This trick was the one to get her in closer so that he could suddenly attack.

'You're not getting me that easy.' She paced backward instead.

'What is she doing?' thought wolf boy.

Spinning she ran into the woods, fleeing. Or so wolf boy thought. When he gained on her, almost touching her midnight black hair in its braids that were tucked into a ponytail, she spun around and swung the knife. He shrunk back cradling his already hurt arm, she could see that he was hurt even more.

With a sudden burst of speed, he attacked her. Clawing at her he managed to scratch her eye. Swinging blindly she managed to cut his tail.

"Yow! That is very soft skin there, thank you very much."

"Thanks for the tip." she lunged, her left eye was clamped shut, clawing wildly more like a wolf than a human, minus the knife in her hand. Dogging, he clawed at her. Managing to stun her, he bit her neck.

'What the? Is she part wolf? No. I don't smell wolf on her.'

"Ahh!! Get off! Gah!!! Ow! What was that…'' Ash fainted.

"Wow. That kicked in faster than I thought." wondered wolf boy.

"That's because I hit her with a dart." answered a voice

"Really James? You had to do that? On my first kill?"

"Sorry, Rhys. What else could I do? She has another knife on her belt."

"I didn't see that. Wow! This is a hand-crafted knife, it has her name carved into it."

"How do you know her---Right! Ultima powers! I would rather be an ultima instead of an alpha."

"Hey! You actually have freedom!"

"Whatever. Where are we going to take her? Mine or your village?"

"Neither. The meadow."

"Why?"

"Because it's my first kill! I want it to be special! The altar!"

"You do remember we have to drag her across the river right?"

"Yes I do! Now come on!"

As they splashed through the water Rhys didn't want to lose his new knife so he slid it back onto her belt.

'It's kind of sad that I had to sacrifice her. She's kinda cute. Her hair is the same color as midnight. Eye the color of the moon...Wait. Why is she covering one of her eyes? I'll figure it out later.' thought Rhys (He saw her eye before he clawed it.)
