Chapter 63: Got Two Helpers

"You can't take her away!” Lou declared. “She's with us, and besides, you’re the ones who crossed the line."
Skinny Lou stood by my side, mustering up all his courage to face off against the other party. He hoped to use the rules of the gang to force them to give in. He was still too naive. On the streets, people only followed the rules if there was someone strong enforcing them.
The only hope for the weak was to be bullied, but I admired his courage, and the spirit he had in him.
Lou's words elicited a wave of mockery.
"Kid, I advise you to get the hell out of the way. You should just run home back to your mommy."
"You guys...what are you up to? Do you want to break the rules set by Arthur? Whether you believe it or not, I'll call him over and he’ll finish you all off."
"Lou, shut up. You'll get us killed. Just give it up already!"
John was on the sidelines and grabbed him, trying to pull him back, but Lou jerked his arm away.
