l where all the professors and prefects were while looking for the troll themselves? Minerva McGonagall sighed as she, along with the rest of the professors quickened their pace, following the loud roars that definitely did not belong to a human.
Nearly a quarter an hour ago, Quirrel stumbled in, almost scared out of his life from a troll . She almost snorted. The man was useless. He barely even knew the subject of defense against the dark arts. He was a muggle studies professor! But then again, she thought to herself, since Dumbledor appointed Quirrel himself, there must be more to it than what meets the eye. That man had plans within the plans in his plans. She quickly brushed it away from her mind, walking even faster, almost breaking into a run.
Just a few minutes ago, all the professor's heard the sound of glass shattering, and Sprout, who was near the windows reported something falling down from the floor above. And when they got to the grounds, they were able to see a giant club, no doubt belonging to the troll. And pieces of glass belonging to the window on the girl's bathroom.
Now this wouldn't have made McGonagall worried, except for the fact she had overheard some girls whisper about Ms Granger, who had locked herself in the said bathroom. The girl was the smartest in her class, but she had problems fitting in.
The first sign that things might've gone south was the thick smoke that filled the corridor. There was absolutely no reason for smoke to emerge from this floor. Especially at this time of the day. And the smoke was no normal smoke either. It was the smoke that smelled of burning flesh. Something that managed to bring back dark memories.
McGonagall began running. As fast as her aged body allowed her to. Hoping in her mind, for her students safety. Not just her, all the other professor's, even professor Dumbledor started running.
But what they saw when they got to the bathroom made them all fall silent. The bathroom was thrashed. Destroyed beyond repair from the flick of a wand. The stalls were all but gone. The washlets demolished and the mirrors shattered. A red headed boy, the Weasly boy, McGonagall quickly got to him and checked, laid slumped at the door while Mr Potter and Ms Granger laid on top of each other on the corner. Thankfully only unconscious.
But what caught their eyes was the source of smoke. The fire that almost reached the ceiling, crackling while it burned in bright yellow and orange as if it was doused in the muggle fuel.
"Is that...?" McGonagall was unable to finish her sentence as she tried to understand what was going on.
"The troll..." Dumbledor gave a nod while confirming her suspicions in a grave tone. She couldn't belive it. Whatever remained of the troll was burning with such ferocity, she almost doubted Dumbledor's words.
She then quickly pulled herself back. The students were injured. She quickly conjured three beds before floating the students onto them. And only released a sigh of relief when Pomphry gave the all clear.
"Of course Potter's involved" Snape said after a while. "No doubt chasing after the glory . If you ask me, we should wake them up and interrogate them immediately. Who knows what type of dark magic they used"
"Let them sleep" Dumbledor said before McGonagall had a chance to argue. "There's no way three first years could accomplish such powerful magic". The professor's nodded in agreement while Snape just retorted with a snort.
"But" Dumbledor's expression suddenly hardened. " when they wake up, we will have to question them. Someone entered Hogwarts, and burned a troll while the only three possible witnesses are these three chjildern. We need to know who it was and where he came from."
The next day, the entire Hogwarts was shaken from the news of the supposed dark wizard. Dumbledor, along with Snape and McGonagall questioned the trio, but they were unable to learn anything useful, except Hermione who reported that she saw a wizard rain a hail of fire on the troll. Of course, she covered for both Harry and Ron, making her loose five points herself while the other two gained ten points. But that news went above their heads. Instead one question remained. Who was the mysterious wizard?
