Spending Time with Family

A couple of weeks later…

Gilderoy's POV:

I'm inside my bedroom reading a book, it was a picture book meant for 1st graders as for some reason my parents didn't want me to strain my eyes too much with heavily wordy, and seemingly complicated books that they thought were too hard for me regardless of how much of a genius they think I am for my age. They also honestly thought that I was still too young to mentally understand those books that were way above 1st-grade or 2nd-grade reading.

Nevertheless, with my bookshelf that my dad built, I have plenty of reading materials to enjoy albeit most of them are 1st to 2nd-grade level books with some 3rd-grade reading material. I also own a couple of journals that I write to practice my hand coordination and my handwriting as it is atrocious.

After I finished reading my picture book, I contemplated whether I should do doodling or do something else. Regardless, I should do something because I'm getting increasingly bored. After a brief thought, I got up, closed my book and placed it on the shelf near the end of my bed.

I have decided to go out of my bedroom.

I opened my door while closing it before I left and I slowly went downstairs, On the ground floor there are 3 separate rooms, A living room, a kitchen, and a dining. My mum is in the kitchen preparing some for us too as it is nearly lunchtime. While my dad was just sitting in the living room reading the newspaper while drinking some tea, I think Margaret and Sarah were playing outside in the backyard as they were nowhere around the house. I am about to go to the kitchen and probably ask my mum what we're going to eat.

"Mummy, What are we going to eat for lunch?"

Mum: A chicken stew made of leftover rotisserie chicken from last night's dinner, chicken bones are used as stock for chicken broth, and with various vegetables like carrots, peas, onions, mushrooms, and celery. It also contains spices like cumin, black pepper, and nutmeg.

"That sounds great mummy, what else is there? There can't only stew?"

Mum: I am also making fresh sourdough bread to complement the chicken stew, The bread is inside the oven and you should wait for 30 minutes until it's ready. You're having milk along with the meal, Gilderoy. It is very healthy for you.

"Yeah, I know mummy, but what are the rest of my family having?"

Mum: Margaret and Sarah are having apple juice while mummy and daddy are having Coca-Cola.

"Hey, no fair! I want Coca-Cola! While slamming my fists at the counter."

Mum: No! It's too unhealthy for you and you're too young to have any junk in your body. Tell you what, I will make you a milkshake just for you at dinner time.

"OK, mummy! I'll behave."

With that being said, I quickly sat at one of the stools near the island that was filled with various cooking utensils. Normally, If I were a regular toddler I would just play around with the cooking utensils until my mum caught me. But, I will just keep to myself and do something else. So I changed my mind got out of the stool and left the kitchen.

"Mummy, I'm leaving the kitchen, tell me when the food is ready?"

Mum: Okay then, it will be ready in 35 minutes. Make sure you're here by then."

"See ya!"

I exited out of the kitchen and made my way to the living room where my dad was about to finish reading the newspaper.

"Daddy, daddy, what are you doing?"

Dad: Oh, I'm just going to watch some television now as I already finished reading the news.

"Uh, Daddy? Can I watch with you?"

Dad: Sure bud, Let's watch some Doctor Who.

My dad grabbed the remote, turned on the television and cycled around a few channels until we found the channel that showed Doctor Who. Thankfully, we managed to catch up on time before we could miss the show and also luckily, it was at the beginning whatever this episode that aired.

It is honestly strange for me to watch the old-school version of the television series, especially the current doctor portrayal is Patrick Troughton, the second doctor. I was never a big fan of the series, but I knew enough to recognize either Matt Smith or David Tennant as the go-to doctor. From my modern perspective, a lot of these television shows shown on TV are a bit dull to me. But that is just my bias taking over as I grew with the 2000s and early 2010s TV shows. I might as well just watch whatever is available as there's no internet, no streaming, and no YouTube for me to pass the time. It is the 1960s after all.

Almost 35 minutes later…

After watching an episode of Doctor Who, my dad got out of the couch and left the living. I decided to go outside to the backyard, so I could call in my sisters for lunch.

"Daddy, I need to remind my sisters that lunch is about ready.

Dad: OK, son, make sure they're fine.

"Okay"

I went through the hallway, then the back door and opened it. I went outside and saw Margaret swinging Sarah at the swing set hanging from an old oak tree.

"Maggie, Sarah, Come in! Lunch is ready!"

Sarah: Coming!

Margaret: I'm coming in! Lil Gil.

Yeah, that nickname, I don't know why they thought of that instead of Roy or anything else. But at least it's endearing. Anyways, we all went to the dining room where my mum presented the food for our lunch with the assistance of my dad of course. And with that, I dig in the food along with my loving family.

After lunch…

Dad: That was some nice lunch, honey!

Mum: Thank you sweetie!

It really was indeed, I became pretty stuffed and I barely have the energy, so I immediately started to take a quick nap at the couch in the living room. It has been a good lunch, I wonder what's for dinner?
