Most people in the first year had been or currently are jealous of Connor, it was just this one thing stopping them from doing anything against the boy and that was that they knew he was better at magic than them, and they didn't know how to actually duel or anything alike. At least not yet.
So when Connor had been so nice to introduce the prospect of training, Hermionie was ready to refuse, as she always was leading the wagon of jealousy towards Connor. But a part of her immediately wanted to agree, it would make sense to at least try to study with Connor and possibly, getting to know how he was so smart and outsmart him. The confundo didn't do that much, it was all already in her head after all.
When the training finished both Ron and her agreed on something, never again will they join this hell of a training. Not once did Connor mention anything theoretical, it was just sparing against him, which meant having to dodge stunners and trying to throw a spell in, but even then the matches would last at most ten seconds and they did this for at least an hour so it became extremely frustrating and hard.
Thankfully Connor did do something to help her and that was to say who Nicholas Flamel was, at least he was useful then.
They, Harry, Ron and her, quickly moved on to investigate if the sorcerer's stone could be inside of the castle and why, but they always came back empty handed. And the yule break was coming soon, and they were still without any clues, and Harry was always trying to tell them to please give Connor another shot at teaching them, and seemed way more interested in learning in ever before, which was strange for Hermionie to see but maybe it sparked something in her, to study harder too. Obviously Ron still laid back and did nothing.
Soon the break was close to arriving and thanks to Ron's and Hermione's intervention Harry had yet to interact again with Connor even though he always saw him alone and a little sad. Cedric, who was Connor's friend, seemed distant from him and always had a thoughtful face on, like he was pondering about the greatest myth to exist, or trying to decipher an ancient text.
But Harry knew that tomorrow when break started he would get the chance to speak with Connor, Harry had taken the liberty to spend his time learning magic, which for some reason he didn't want to at first. Maybe it was Ron's influence. But now he found that he wanted to learn, still most theoretical books were very boring but he found that learning spells, and those he could use in duels specifically, were very interesting to do. He found that he liked learning the practical part, even though he hated the theoretical part.
Harry awoke from his slumber like always with a jump. He glanced at the close blinds of his bed before opening and getting out of it.
Ron also, like always, was snoring a shit ton and the only other person who seemed to be asleep was Neville.
Deciding to not care for once, Harry made his way to the great hall for breakfast, in which he found Connor sitting alone, in one corner of the hufflepuff table, and Harry couldn't do it any more.
He walked forwards and sat in front of Connor, smiling like a bright sun at him.
"Connor" He said warmly and Connor seemed to snap out of whatever haze he was in. Up close Harry could see Connor's red eyes and eye bags which most likely come from not sleeping enough.
"Hey Harry" Connor's voice came quite sleepy and he could sense a little bit of annoyance in his voice.
"Are you ok? Are you sleeping well?" Harry asked worried and he, for a few seconds, could feel his concern wash away from him, but it was just a weird moment and it now came back quite more powerful, as he stared at a Connor who looked like he refused to answer, but if Harry was one thing was stubborn and he is not going to lose a battle like this.
Connor ended up sighing "I'm" He started but decided to swallow "I'm fine"
Harry's eyes didn't lose concern for a single second now and as he stared down at Connor waiting for an answer. Once again Harry refused to lose a battle like this, he was going to find out what was happening with Connor.
Slowly Connor let out an answer "I've just been having some quite horrifying nightmares" and Harry quickly replied "Isn't there a way to deal with them?"
"What, like therapy?" Connor's distaste for therapy is evident in his voice.
"I meant like a magical way for you to I don't know sleep without nightmares or dreams" Just as Harry finished speaking Connor eyes widened and Harry could guess he realized something.
"A dreamless potion, you are an angel Harry" Connor said quickly standing up and heading out of the great hall "A fucking lifesaver I swear to merlin" Connor practically screamed which in turn made a lot of people stare and Harry to blush, he was an angel, Harry like that description. Maybe he could learn how to save more, huh food for thought.
