A Wand and Departure

Devlin followed his family into Ollivander's Wand Shop looking at the familiar scene from last year. As he entered, Ollivander walked over and looked at Kate.

"Welcome back Fir and Unicorn Hair 10 Inches Solid. Are you treating your wand well?"

Kate smiled "Yes thank you Mr. Ollivander. I love my wand very much."

"This time we are here for my son Mr. Ollivander." Ester said.

"Oh yes, the little sibling's turn to pick a wand. You know, while not totally rare, but it is uncommon for both children to become wizards. You might have an ancestry of wizard blood in your family." Ollivander explains.

Peter began to think. "Would it be possible? From what I know, we're mostly a non-magical family. We don't have anything in our past that's exciting. I just know my great-great grandfather immigrated to this country. But from what I understand, he's non-magical too."

"My family too. As long as I remember, there 's nothing exciting about our past." Ester explained.

"Well, in any case, you now have two children that are wizards. I hope you will be patient with them and continue to raise them well. It's not uncommon for parents to panic and do something they regret because of it." Ollivander explained

"Don't worry about that." Peter and his wife gathered by his children and smiled. "They are our treasure. No matter what, we cherish our kids very much."

"That's good. My apologies for saying something unnecessary." Ollivander said

"No problem. We understand you mean well." Ester replied this time.

Mr. Ollivander smiled and turned his head and looked at Devlin. Shortly after he whipped out his measuring tape. "Come now boy, I don't have all day."

Devlin walked over to Ollivander and he began to measure Devlin the same way he did Kate last year. Holding out his right arm, Ollivander measured from head to toe muttering the measurements in his head.

"Yes yes yes..." Ollivander went to the shelves but only grabbed one box. "I have a feeling, Ebony, Dragon Heartstrings, twelve and a half inches, stiff." Ollivander took out a dark sleek black wand, but with an elegant white vein looking trimming around the handle.

Devlin took the wand. He felt a warmth in his fingers. When he brought the wand swishing down, sparking white sparks shot from the end brightening up the room. Mr. Ollivander cried, "I knew it. I had a feeling I would get it on the first try." He looked proudly. Mr. Ollivander took the wand back and put it into its box and wrapped it in brown paper. "The ebony is happiest of those who like to be true to themselves. Not to be swayed by others, but to see things without influence and to be true to your own beliefs."

"Congrats Dev, you have a wand now too!" Kate said happily.

Devlin smiled cheerfully at Kate. "Thanks! I'm happy to be able to finally get one!" Devlin held tightly to the box containing his wand. Devlin and the family left and went to get the rest of Devlin's books as well as Kate's books for the school year. Getting the rest of the supplies were straightforward as the family completed their "to do" list and went off back home.

A few weeks have passed, and Devlin decided to take a break from practicing and spend some quality time with his family. This is the final summer break and at least for the next seven years, he will not see his parents every day. The family enjoyed some normal muggle times. They went to watch movies, went out to lunch and dinners. On the downtime he would read various subjects for school, but only at curiosity level. He didn't study it as much as Hermione did, but at least he has a basic theoretical knowledge of each subject.

Devlin sits in his room looking at his trunk filled with clothes and his school supplies all neatly packed up. He turned around his room and finds his desk and a small pile of broken toys on it. They were his training partners through the year.

"You have served me well in the past year." Devlin puts his hand in a prayer position and silently thanks them for their service.

"Dev, you ready? Mom and Dad are waiting downstairs." Kate's voice can be heard outside the door.

"Yup! be right there." Devlin said. He took the broken-down toy soldiers and dumped them into the garbage. He opens then closed his trunk, took the handle and opened his door. He turned around to look at his room one last time. This is his childhood bedroom he used in two lifetimes. This time he's leaving it a little early, but from this point on, it's a whole new environment for him. There will be new encounters, new people to meet, and also new conflicts. "I'll be back." Devlin says in the empty room. Although he'll be here during the holidays and summer break, he's still feeling nostalgic about it all.

Devlin went and dragged his trunk down to the living room and he finds his family waiting for him at the living room by the fireplace.

"Okay, we're going to head to the Weasley's first for breakfast like last year then we'll go to the train station together." Afterwards, they went ahead and used the floo powder to contact the Weasley's to warn them they will be coming soon. Shortly after, Devlin took a handful of floo powder from the small bucket by the fireplace and threw it into the flames.

Devlin walked out of the fire place in the Weasley residents.

"Hey there Devlin." Mrs. Weasley greeted Devlin warmly.

"Thanks for having us again Mrs. Weasley." Devlin greeted in return. As he turns his head he sees the Weasley kids having their breakfast. Ron waved his hand over to him.

"Over here Dev. Have some breakfast." Ron said. Devlin walked over and sat next him while gesturing a greeting to the rest of the family.

"Hey there Devlin. I gave Ron a simple magic spell. Would you you be interested?" George said with a mischievous smile.

Devlin looked curiously at Fred. "Oh yea? What kind of spell?"

"Very simple really! Nothing harmful really." George said smiling mischievously

"Just a simple spell to turn Scabbers yellow. It's pretty hilarious when you see it." The twins both grin at Ron.

Ron groaned. "I've been trying since yesterday. Hilarious for them, but I think it would make him more interesting, but the spell isn't working."

George closed in on Ron. "Come now Ron, you have to say it smoothly and correctly."

"Sunshine, Daisies, Butter Mellow, Turn this stupid, fat rat yellow" Fred said playfully. "Remember, say it with more gusto!"

Devlin nearly choked on his drink when he just listened to what he heard. 'So this is where Ron tried to learn the spell' he thought to himself.

Kate looked suspiciously at Fred. "Is that really a spell?"

"I'm telling you, it'll work!" George said excitedly

"So why don't you do it first?" Kate said to George

Fred smirks. "Now where is the fun in that? You have to live life on the edge every now and then."

"Come now Ron! Prove her wrong! Don't let the princess stop our fun!" George followed up gesturing Ron to try it out.

Kate rolls her eyes. She slightly shifted closer to Ginny and away from Ron. "Stay close to me Ginny, who knows what's going to happen. Something might blow up." Kate said to Ginny. Ginny giggles and looked curiously at Ron.

"Okay. Lets try it." Ron took out his wand and Scabbers. He cleared his throat and pointed his wand towards the rat. "Sunshine, Daisie...."

"What are you kids doing? Stop playing around and finish breakfast or we'll miss the train!" Mrs. Weasley interrupts. Ron frowned as he wanted to try the spell again, but he put his wand away and finished his breakfast as well as the rest of the family.

At King's Cross 9 3/4 Platform...Devlin stood on the the platform wearing his school robes waiting in excitement to board the train. The Weasley family went off to say goodbye to their kids while the Peter pulled aside his kids for a talk.

"Before you kids go, we'll just say a few things here. Remember that you have each other, okay? Support each other while in the school and make sure there's no trouble."

"Make sure to write often? It's difficult for us since you'll both be gone, but please write so we know that you are safe. If you are in any problems, let us know." Ester holds in her emotions. Last year wasn't as emotional because she still had to take care of Devlin, but now that both kids are leaving, the house will be a little empty.

"Don't worry mom...dad..I'll take care of Kate for you!" Devlin said with confidence.

Kate elbowed Devlin in the arm. "What are you talking about! I'll take care of Devy don't worry Mom...Dad!"

"Pfft! I'll be in more danger with you around oh Hufflepuff Swan Princess!" Devlin rubs his arm that got elbowed.

Kate turns red in embarrassment and turns away. "Why are you so cringe? Hmf!" Devlin and the family laughed in a playful manner. Kate and Devlin hugged their parents and said their goodbyes. Kate and Devlin went ahead into the train.

As they walked down the isle in the train, Devlin started looking into the rooms and notice that a lot of them are already full. As Kate and Devlin continue to look, a familiar face approaches Kate.

"Kate! You're here! Come with me. I saved you a seat." It was Cho Chang. She went over and started tugging Kate's sleeve to follow.

"Sorry Devlin! You'll have to find your own room. You'll be alright?" Kate followed up, Cho who was excited to see her friend just noticed Devlin and gave an apologetic look.

Devlin smiled "It's fine. I can find my way. I'll see ya." Devlin gestured to them to go. Devlin continued walking down the hall walking through students who are chatting about. He looked around seeing if Ron is in view. He was curious that if he stuck with Ron, he might meet "that" person. But with no luck at all, he did not see Ron in sight.

As he was walking about, he heard a voice so when he went to take a peak in the room through the window in that direction. In the room, there was a round faced boy plump boy with bucked teeth and blonde hair listening quietly while holding on to his pet toad to an energetic girl with frizzy hair that looked very familiar to him. There was another boy with curly brown hair as he looked quietly out the window. Devlin didn't want to be stuck standing so he decided to just take this room that looks available for him.,

"Hello, is there a free spot here? It looks a bit crowded around here." Devlin asked calmy.

The boy with the blonde hair smiled. "Yes, the spot is free. Help yourself." Devlin walked in and smiled and took a seat next to the familiar looking girl with frizzy hair.

The energetic girl turned her head. "Hey, aren't from the same school as me? What a coincidence."

Devlin looked at the girl and noticed right away who she was. "Hermione Granger. What a surprise.." Devlin said with a smile. While knowing she was here was not a surprise, bumping into the room where Neville is as well was a surprise for him.

Sorry for the incredibly long break. To be honest, I didn't expect anyone to read it. I just had an itch to write after reading so many fanfics that I didn't have any expectations. Then I read the comments and was touched. So I will continue! I'll try to stay consistent! There will be at least 2 chapters, a week. Well besides this week. So i'll try to keep a tuesday thursday schedule. I got a bunch saved up too!
