Will took a deep breath as they walked into the great hall. As the first students walked into the hall, the silence of the students themselves turned into the deafening noise of students chattering. But, with the entrance of the students, the loud noise of unruly students just stopped. Every one was looking at the students, and the seniors were intrigued as to who would be joining their house. Will looked around. He recognized a few faces here and there. He saw Marcus Flint, and a few other students who were at the party. He did not respond to them, or sign, because clearly, he was not the main character. All the eyes were on Harry, whether he knew it or not.
Chatter on the train was that Harry Potter had come to Hogwarts. All the students were looking keenly at the students if that was actually true. Slowly, the first years came upto the front of the hall, and stopped. Professor McGonagall stood in front of them, and next to her was a stool. On top of it, was the sorting hat.
Ah, how it began to sing about how it would sort the students. All the students were nervous as McGonagall began to call their names. One by one, the students were going to where they were supposed to. Hermione, and Ron to Gryffindor while Malfoy to Slytherin. Harry was soon going to go next, when Will realized that a horrible mistake had been made.
"Oh Shit! Malfoy did not say that he was going to Slytherin and Ron did not warn him yet. I should tell him that quickly, or he could actually be sorted to Slytherin!.", Will felt chills go down his spine.
He went closer to Harry and whispered in his ear. "Remember Harry, the sorting hat listens to your opinion. Just know that Voldemort was in Slytherin. You are meant to oppose him. Ask the sorting hat to put you in Gryffindor. It is what is best for you."
Harry turned around and looked at Will. "He was in Slytherin?", he whispered back.
"Not one good wizard had ever come from it. Don't get coerced by the hat's words. You should go to what you feel is going to be a good fit for you. If you want a house that will truly be a good fit for you, then I suggest Gryffindor, but then again, it's just a suggestion.".
Of course Harry wanted a family. After eleven years of being deprived of it, he would want to be a part of something like that. Will knew that, so he used that card. He had influenced Harry's decision so that the future would go properly. He did not want the worst to happen. He was going to have to live in this world, after all!
"Harry Potter.", Professor McGonagall's voice came. Even her monotonous voice betrayed her anticipation when she called this name. The whole hall suddenly started whispering to each other in shock as they heard this name. It all but confirmed their suspicions.
Harry took a deep breath and nodded at Will. He went up to the seat, and McGonagall put the hat on it. It seemed that the conversation between the two started, because all Will could see was the subtle movement of Harry's lips. Finally, (drum roll), after much suspense, the hat shouted out, "It better be Gryffindor!.".
The whole table on the right cheered as they heard the verdict. Harry sighed in relief as he rushed to the table of Gryffindor. Will sighed in relief as well. It would be a disaster if Harry would end up in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. Even worse, imagine the consequences if Harry was in Slytherin and he turned to the dark side. The whole world, and not just the wizarding world, would fall apart, all because of Will. But, now, Will was faced with a much greater problem. It was his turn soon.
"William Monroe".
