[Chapter Size: 2600 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
"Does Mr. Snape need to know where there are powerful creatures so that you can fight?!" Dobby's father looked at him frightened by this sentence.
"Yes... Needs to know where to find someone strong to face." Snape spoke in a calm and determined tone.
His last days were just researching magical creatures, looking at how he could level up, while spending his time in the forbidden section.
They only had time until the end of the year, so he had to act quickly on what he could. "I only know the Juggernaut of the forbidden forest... along with that witch and the Acromantulas..." Snape told the elf in front of him, before continuing.
"But I heard some important things in the old books about creatures... I heard there is a basilisk in this castle..." Snape said as the elf immediately shuddered hearing this.
"Mr. Snape wants to fight the basilisk?! That's madness, it's madness!!" He began to exclaim, while Dobby at his side began to tremble, neither of them knew the basilisk, but everyone knew what a giant magic-immune snake was.
"That's my problem. What I want to know if you know any way I find this being... in this castle." Severus asked.
"We don't know..." The elf, although thinking it madness, still answered him sincerely. "We just know we have to be careful with the huge basilisk... all the older elves tell the new ones, and they do it from generation to generation... they say that this monster has lived for a thousand years!!" Dobby's father said.
"1000 years... then it must be very powerful..." Severus seemed satisfied with this, thinking about the xp he could accumulate with it. "Is there nothing you don't know about this creature?" Snape asked wanting to know, after all the book he read about it, being a creature of Salazar himself who brought it to Hogwarts, was hidden somewhere, but it didn't say about its location.
"We don't know much, Mr. Snape," the elf began to speak, with a hesitating tone. After all, he believed that Severus was getting involved with something very dangerous and that he could die. The elf, despite sometimes fearing Snape, liked him. Even being scary at times, the man still respected them and treated them well, saving his son and keeping him even in the castle.
"All the elves say to keep away from the girls' bathroom on the 2nd floor," continued the elf. "They say that incidents occurred many years ago there, where a girl was killed. All the rumors say she was petrified by a basilisk and the ghost of the girl is still there, known as Moaning Myrtle.... Please, Mr. Snape, don't go there," the elf pleaded.
His son also joined his father. "Master Snape, this could be dangerous, you should not go there," Dobby implored.
Snape just nodded ignoring their requests. "I understand," he murmured. "Alright, thank you for all the information you've passed on to me. Now, I need to go to the alchemy and potions class," Severus said, leaving the precise room and headed to his potions class, arriving while the students were still filling the empty chairs with Professor Slughorn waiting for all the students to arrive to start the class.
As usual, Gilderoy Lockhart of Ravenclaw watched him, but Snape ignored him, while calmly waiting for the class to begin. The person who came to his side this time was Clarissa.
"Hello, Severus..." She approached, calling him by his first name. Something that was already common and she had asked for his help with some potions, after all she wanted to specialize as much in Herbology, which was the main specialty of her family as potions, as she had been doing this whole year and needed to pass the final exams.
Snape just moved his head to greet her. "Severus..." she began, "I wanted to talk about something that has nothing to do with the final exams that you've been helping me so much with..." said Clarissa, hesitant.
Snape looked at her with raised eyebrows waiting for her to continue. "I know it's strange, but my father wants to talk to you."
"And what does Mr. Greengrass want with me?" Snape asked, intrigued.
"It's a bit difficult to talk about here... so it would be better if we talk alone." She commented and Snape nodded.
The class began while the professor continued explaining about a potion he had been preparing for a month. Of course, Snape had already made that potion on the first day, being quite easy for him.
So he ended up taking the opportunity to study Muggle books on theories of how to conduct electricity and how molecules and atoms work within a storm, aiming to enhance his understanding of his new spells and fully master them.
When the class ended, Clarisse clearly wanted to talk to him as he sighed. "Can I talk to you another time, Clarisse?" Snape said while the blonde nodded.
As the people in the room began to leave, Severus stayed as Professor Slughorn had requested just before class. "Snape, how are you?" the professor asked.
"I'm fine, professor," Severus responded.
"Good. Anyway, I wanted to know if you still have more of those potions, I have some acquaintances of some friends." the professor said.
"Unfortunately, I don't have any stock of it." Severus said, after all, he needed to pick more Nightshades in the forbidden forest, something he would do soon. "But I will have more in the coming weeks." Snape said.
"I understand. I'll be waiting, after all your potion is becoming very famous in the big magic circles of the country. Anyway, our weekly meeting is coming up. I hope to see you there. Your presence will be very welcome," concluded the professor.
"I'll be there, Professor Slughorn..." Snape said, as he had arranged this with this man, due to him having switched his auxiliary subject twice this year while he was now doing magical runes.
Then he returned to the Restricted Section, picked up some Hogwarts history books, and looked for anything related to the Basilisk, as he had made the snake his target. There were some newspapers in the books and he began to read about the murder that happened a few years ago, exactly in the second-floor bathroom, which was closed due to the ghost of a girl still haunting the place.
After that, his interest shifted to research about the rare species itself that had no age limit, as long as it survived. He knew that Hogwarts housed one of the oldest species in the world, hidden since its foundation.
"Let's go after it... but will my blades be enough to penetrate its skin...?" Snape murmured still not knowing how to deal with the snake.
His eyes went to a book he had read some time ago, picking up about swords and found the page that talked about the sword of Gryffindor, which would be a great blade if his did not work, after all he should not just rely on his strength.
The book talked about it and where it was, it was no surprise to find information that the sword was in the school, exactly inside the Sorting Hat in this restricted section and deciding to act, he left the place disappearing again.
Snape appeared near the director's floor passing through the moving stairs and headed for the entrance to the room.
The director was pondering some things with the letters he had received from the ministry, the magical world was totally in chaos, powerful wizards appearing out of nowhere, who were not even connected to Voldemort from what he understood and this caused Albus a certain headache thinking how he could deal with so many variables, preferring just to be dealing with Voldemort and not other wizards who could even be considered as powerful as, emerging, fearing for the future of magical England.
The man was surprised by Snape's presence, with Fawkes warning of him approaching and opened the door for the boy, narrowing his eyes, since it was the first time in the whole year that Snape had sought him. He could already imagine why.
The boy calmly entered the room while all the portraits kept their gaze on him with interest, after all, Snape always seemed to make a show when he entered this place.
The boy wasted no time while looking at the old man behind the desk. "I'm here to collect a favor you owe me, about not saying anything in the Lupin incident." Snape said.
"I believe that... Since they no longer bother you, I thought you had let that go." The director spoke in a calm tone, wanting to appease things.
"Director, you know very well that my patience has run out with those boys. If they try to do anything more, after what happened under the Whomping Willow, things will not end well for them, as what they did is practically an assassination and I will break each of their bones in a way that they will never move the same way again," Snape said in a firm tone.
"You should not speak like that, Severus Snape," the director said in a clearly angry tone.
"Defending murderers is a disgrace, director..." Snape retorted challengingly.
As they stared at each other for a while, everyone around them fell silent, wondering what would happen next. Dumbledore had always been offended and scorned by Snape, and the old man was reaching his limit.
"Say what you want..." Albus finally asked.
"What I want is very simple. I want the Gryffindor sword for one day," Severus requested, making the director immediately raise his eyebrows.
"What you are asking is nearly impossible, Mr. Snape!" the director exclaimed as Snape opened a smile, noticing that all the other directors in the portraits were looking at him with wide eyes.
"This is preposterous! How could a Slytherin want the Gryffindor sword?" exclaimed one of the directors who had held the position two centuries ago and was also from Gryffindor; it was almost an offense to him.
"This is an unusual request. I've never seen any other house, except Gryffindor itself, do this. And taking the sword is something that rarely happens, at least, there is one per generation skilled enough for it," said another director, who seemed intrigued.
"Stay calm," said the current director, before turning back to Snape. "As you can see, boy, your request is somewhat irrational. Why do you want the Gryffindor sword?" He asked, still surprised.
"I saw its record in the Restricted Section and I am interested in seeing the material of the blade. I have an interest in medieval blades and would like to see its construction," Snape declared in a calm tone.
The director frowned and pondered. "Well, I owe you a favor and I might consider it, however, I can only give you one chance. After all, few people can attempt... but I believe it's impossible for someone from another house to claim it..." He concluded.
The director stood up and went to a transparent glass box, guarding the Sorting Hat, which opened its eyes upon hearing the glass door opening.
"Albus, what is this about?" the hat asked, surprised. "You usually call on me only at the beginning of the school year and there are still months to go." The hat said in a sleepy tone.
"I need a boy to test for the Gryffindor sword..." Albus replied.
"Hm?! It's been many years since anyone tried. Let's see what the boy has." The hat seemed excited as its eyes fell on Snape. But they widened through the fabric of the hat when the Slytherin house emblem was seen on his clothing. "Wait a moment! A Slytherin wants to take the sword?! What kind of joke is this, Albus!?" the hat exclaimed.
"I've decided to give the boy a chance," Albus responded with a sigh.
"This is unacceptable... even if the boy is forcing this on you, put me back in the box and let's stop this nonsense! I still have a few months to rest," said the Sorting Hat.
"Let's just do the test." Albus ignored and began to lead him to Snape.
The hat seemed very offended by this. "This is madness! You really think you can take the sword? What foolishness, just go away, boy," the hat scoffed.
"Were you always this annoying?" Snape wondered. The Sorting Hat was placed in front of him. "Am I supposed to put my hand inside it?" He asked the director, while the old man nodded.
Without wasting time, Snape grabbed the hat by the brim and lifted it before moving his arm into the opening while searching for the sword. "Let's see," he said calmly.
"Idiot! Foolish boy! Do you really think you can take the sword? Remember, to take the sword, you need to have the main characteristic of Gryffindor. With that Slytherin emblem, you will never have it!" The hat continued in its mocking tone.
However, Snape, determined, put his hand inside the hat and began to search. All the directors in the portraits watched, surprised, as Snape appeared increasingly focused.
Courage? Who was Morou Kaind, one of the guardians of the order created by the rulers, who cared for and protected the universe from the danger posed by the monarchs... since he was an orphan on a small planet, until his master found him seeing great potential in him and his affinity with the power of the shadow monarch, his life was summed up in fighting for the balance of all living beings. Even though he seemed more corrupted by the power of darkness within him, he still had a sense of justice and courage.
The hat, which had been mocking until that moment, grimaced at this moment, something coming out of it. "This is impossible! How are you doing this? What trick is this!?" Exclaimed the Hat, as everyone looked surprised at this.
"Got it!" Snape declared with a smile. And the hilt of the sword appeared being removed, leaving the director with wide eyes along with everyone there, who were seeing and witnessing the moment when Snape removed the blade of the magical sword with ease, bringing it forward before him and all to appreciate it.
"Am I dreaming..."
"He actually did it..."
"How... how did he do this?!"
No one could believe what they were seeing, even the director seemed paralyzed, he himself had never managed to remove that sword, but there, a Slytherin student who had done some trick or even having the necessary courage for it, left him dazed.
"So this is the blade... it really is impressive," Snape commented while the whole place fell silent.
"No, no, no! This is impossible! How can a Slytherin take this sword? This shouldn't happen! I don't remember any of them with Gryffindor traits in this generation! Much less with enough courage to pull out this weapon!" the Sorting Hat murmured, still incredulous.
Snape ignored the murmuring and, turning to the director, tossed the hat to him. "As you can see, director, I have taken the sword. Although I am quite interested in it and desire to keep it, I will keep my word. I will keep the sword for a day and then return it to you. Unless, of course, you let me keep it," said Snape, while the director remained speechless.
Snape then left the room, disappearing as soon as he was out of their sight and reappearing on the second floor. After all, he didn't just want to look at the blade but also use it against the basilisk.
