Action

Lesson Four

Action

Action is the fun of the book. It's the genre of the whole book! Action is fighting, so you must explain very dramatically.

Action

Action is the fighting between a hero and a villain. The fight must be "essential" in the story. So it must be important in the story, to be absolutely necessary.

The action must be moving, it must have emotion and suspense. If it doesn't, you might as well expect for people to not like your book. For example:

Battle of Triumph: Chapter One(Action)

Windows shattered. My bed broke. A German came in. He killed Dad. I cried.

People will review your book and say, "this is absolutely a waste of money." The sentences are very short, it doesn't give any emotion, and nothing describes anything. No suspense at all.

Battle of Triumph: Chapter One(Redo)

A window shattered. A bunch of shooting sounds were blaring.

Bullets went through our house. Our plates were shattered, I screamed. A bullet hit the leg of the bed.

Then, the door banged. I don't know who they were but they sounded German.

Mom got me and put me inside her room.

She was closing the blinds and locked the door. I heard punching and kicking, and a bunch of shots.

Then as my dad shouted, someone shot their pistol. And then a thud was heard. I knew what happened. But, Mom started bawling and cried with such sadness that even you would've cried. Then a German busted in the room.

This is a better example of action. It's emotional, it's essential to the story later on. And it's suspenseful.

Action must be very essential to the story. And when you're doing it, it must have emotion and suspense.
