Chapter 6: that was quick

Chapter 6: That was quick.

He held my hand and moved me back to the couch then ran to kitchen to get me some water. After drinking a glass I calm down a little bit. "Did you say that's your fiancé and driver?' "Yes." He gives me a firm answer. I looked at him like I saw a ghost. I then start laughing and he really thinks I have gone crazy at this moment. He waits for me to calm down. I lean on the couch and close my eyes. He waits for me to say something.

After a while we hear a door open and a man gets in. He looks at me with a questioning gaze. "That was quick. You left for the clinic and you brought yourself a candidate damn you are fast." He walks in as he talks nonsense. "Stop with your BS man. This is Lydia, I found her passed out at the clinic. Lydia this is Jay he owns the place." "Hi" We both say it at the same time.

He looked at both of us and left us to the next room. He comes back with three glasses and a bottle of wine. "I normally don't drink because I'm preparing myself for pregnancy but today it's an exception". I take my glass and gulp down the contents in one go. They both join me. Jay pours us another glass each and I gulp it down and start laughing out loud. I get up from the couch and brought the laptop and place it on the coffee table. They both look at me like I have lost my mind. I smile at them and switch it on then I turn it to Mark and he entered the password. I freeze the footage on the monitor and look at Mark who is expecting an explanation from me.

I point the two people on the screen. "Well boys let me introduce these two people to you." I start. "This is George Stan my husband and that is Jane Ellise my best friend. We all met at university and have been friends ever since. I married George right after graduation. Jane and I became interns in the same company and we were inseparable ever since. Jane has a beautiful baby girl Rose, who will turn two this year. Jane works at Stutton Electronics as a marketing director. She is quite busy so I sometimes babysit her child for a week or more at times. George is a manager at Stutton Electrinics. I don't know what kind of manager he is anyway. And I have been a house wife since because George here feels it's a wife's duty to stay home and not compete with the husband career wise." I take the wine bottle and gulp it down my throat and yes it felt good after my little speech. I lean back on the couch and let what I said sink in.

The room is aerie quiet and it stays that way until Jay breaks the silence. "Damn you two can really pick 'em hey!" He runs his hand on his hair. Mark and I look at Jay with nothing to say. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" He asks like we have wronged him somehow. I lay my head back on the couch and say nothing.

"Does your husband have a trip these few days?" Mark directed the question to me. "Yes." I respond with my eyes still closed. "Gone to Cape Town for a week." I said with my eyes still closed. "I guess your house is 'Cape Town' Mark." Exclaimed Jay like he is having a time of his life. He stands up and asked "What are you going to do now?" He left and went back to the kitchen. He brought back a few more bottles of wine for us, ordered food for us and left us to our misery. Mark opened all the bottles at once and we start on our drinking spree.

After some time our food was delivered and we ate it right there in the living room. We drank silently to our hearts content. I mean I do not know what exactly happened but we both woke up in the same bed. I found myself nestled in someone's embrace when I opened my eyes. I see Mark's sleeping face and damn it's so beautiful. Damn where are my manners? I get out of bed and I wince from a splitting headache as I get off the bed and run to the bathroom. I look at my face in the mirror and I am blushing. I really can't remember the last time I blushed for a man. All these years George has always been my only one.

Well I look down at my clothes and they are all wrinkly, 'thank god' nothing happened. I went back in to the bedroom and I can't find Mark. I got out of the bedroom and I meet him at the door with a glass of something in his hand. His clothes are as wrinkled as mine. He hands me the drink and I gulp it in one go. I look at him awkwardly and ask him, "Do you have something for me to change into and perhaps a spare tooth brush?" "Yeah let me lend some of my clothes hope you can make do with it. He said passing me back to the bedroom. I follow him and he hands me his shorts and a t-shirt. I thank him and went back into the bathroom. I took a hot bath. I needed it. I rummaged through the cupboard and found a new toothbrush, thank you for that.

After washing up I went down stairs and found Jay and Mark sitting at the dining room table waiting for me. I join them and we eat breakfast in silence. "I think it's time you taught those two a lesson." Said Jay with a mouth full of food. Mark and I both looked at him waiting for him to continue with his idea. "Look" He swallows his food. "Both of you have been lied to by the same people. Both of them don't want to have children with you and I can bet that your friend's child is your husbands." He puts food in his mouth and continues eating. We both look at him and we sink into silence aga
