Many students were jam-packed in the corridor that narrowed as it went on, with the exit only allowing the passage of three people maximum. If they planned to run on the ground, that is.
Yousuke, with his superior height, could clearly see where the rest of his class was. He noticed Shoto was standing in the very first row of people, and Yousuke was sure the two-toned teen intended to freeze the floor right after the race begun. Midnight had mentioned that directly attacking other competitors was forbidden and would result in a disqualification, but she hadn't said anything about making life harder for the others.
The tall teen could also see Inasa, who was sticking out even more than him, yet the buzz-haired teen was uncharacteristically grimacing. He also kept sneaking glances at Shoto, each time his frown deepened. Yousuke'd have to ask him what that was about.
The teen would've looked around for longer, but he could hear Present Mic's coutdown was coming to an end. He instantly made enough balls to cover his whole back and then some, with a few dribbling down to his feet. Not many, just enough for the initial launch.
Yousuke smiled, and at that moment, President Mic shouted.
"AND GOOOOOOO!!"
The brown-haired teen immediately sprung from his spot, moving towards one of the walls, which was a good thing, because, a moment later, Shoto had flash-froze the ground around him, along with a good chunk of the competitors' feet. Much to the teen's annoyance, most of the people from the heroics course had successfully evaded the ice, each in their own way.
All of that didn't really matter to Yousuke, however, as the teen had long since outrun the other competitors, and the distance between them was only widening.
The teen was moving along the walls, with his back against the wall. It would've made for an odd sight, to see a man vertically standing up while speeding along on a wall, but he was so far ahead it wasn't even funny.
He could somewhat hear Present Mic say something about the might of the zero-pointers that were used in the entrance exam, only this time there were more than 5 of them together instead, though they were severely restrained by the tunnel.
The teen didn't even need to look back to hear Shoto freeze one of the zero-pointers.
'Right, Shoto has a really strong quirk. Noted.' thought Yousuke.
Just before the tunnel ended, the teen moved back to the ground, with the mass of balls that carried him before now shifting to be underneath his feet, the teen looking as if he was skating on a piece of cardboard.
With that done, it wasn't long before another obstacle presented itself to the teens: an enormous pitfall that was dotted with some platforms connected by ropes. Using his balls as a standing point, Yousuke moved swiftly over the ropes. He took a moment to assess the situation behind him.
Shoto was the one closest to Yousuke, the teen making ice over the rope for him to walk on. The ice would crumble a few seconds after the young Todoroki passed, so Yousuke couldn't help but admire the degree of control the teen had over his quirk.
And speaking of control, Inasa was running on his rope, right behind the two-toned teen, his large frame moving way faster than it should. Looking a bit carefully, Yousuke noticed that the large student's clothes were moving from the wind. But that wasn't so abnormal, was it? No, the weird part was that the teen's clothes were moving as if Inasa was running backwards, or as if wind was blowing from behind him, which wasn't the case.
'Ah, his quirk is named 'Whirlwind', after all. Though, judging by the fact that he's just running on the rope must mean that he can't lift himself up and fly. That's good.' thought Yousuke.
He also saw Bakugou make his way forward with his explosions, all the while cursing and frothing, just like usual.
Yousuke continued at his pace, the last section of the exam being a long stretch of earth, with nothing else on it. The teen examined the ground, idly noting that it wasn't neatly leveled, as one would expect of UA.
'I already walked so far and nothing happened. Maybe the obstacle in this section is supposed to be the rest of the competitors.' Yousuke shrugged. That would only make things easier for him if it was the case.
That thought was immediately discarded as Inasa exploded in a pink cloud, the large teen being thrown back a few meters.
"FINALLY, SOMEONE TRIGGERED THEM! WATCH OUT PARTICIPANTS, OUR LAST OBSTACLE HAS BEEN REVEALED! A MINEFIELD THAT WILL MAKE YOU CRAP YOUR PANTS! HOWEVER, WORRY NOT, AS THE MINES AREN'T LETHAL! THEY WILL STILL KILL YOUR DIGNITY IF YOU CRAP YOUR PANTS, THOUGH!" forever the hype beast, Present Mic's voice echoed all over the stadium, informing all the spectators of the final obstacle. A few more mines were triggered after Inasa flew back, those responsible for their activation being knocked all over the place as more pink mushroom-like clouds emerged on the field.
The race continued on for a few intense minutes, during which Yousuke was considerably ahead of the rest of the competition.
The cheering inside the stadium reached a climax as the noise of the rushing steps became louder and louder, people sitting at the very edge of their seats so as to witness who would cross the finish line first.
"DEAR LISTENERES, PAY ATTENTION! THE COMPETITION THAT SEEMED SO CERTAIN AT THE BEGINNING HAS NOW SHIFTER INTO A FREE-FOR-ALL AS SURPRISES BEGAN PILING UP. WILL GOJO YOUSUKE CONTINUE BEING IN THE LEAD? OR WILL HE BE SURPASSED BY ONE OF THE OTHER COMPETITORS? WHO COULD PREDICT THE OUTCOME OF THIS RACE? NOW, LET'S SEE! THE STUDENT WHO SNAGS THE FIRST PLACE IS..." the announcement had brought about even louder screams as the civilians, heroes and VIPs had their eyes glued to sear in their brain who would be the winner of this race.
The end happened suddenly, with many in the audience not knowing what happened. Suddenly, a black blur crossed the finish line and slammed straight into one of the walls of the audience stands. After that, a green blur, a blue blur and an orange blur all crossed the finish line at about the same time.
The audience wondered who the black blur was, and as Yousuke left the human-shaped indent he had left in the wall, they got their answer.
The large screens around the stadium displayed the captured video evidence, slowing the video so as to allow the spectators to comprehend what happened. The video slowed down and replayed, showing how Yousuke was the first to cross the finish line, followed by, surprisingly enough, Midoriya Izuku, who apparently appeared there out of nowhere, Todoroki Shoto, much to his father's disappointment, and Bakugou Katsuki, whose curses for being 4th place could be heard, despite the crowd's cheering.
The effort of the other students was clear to see to the spectators, yet the people standing in the stadium couldn't help but look at the one who so effortlessly claimed the first spot. His speech rang out again in their minds, many people regarding Yousuke with a newfound respect. His words were true, after all. He had definitely took the cake, by a long shot.
