Snow Tracks and Stables Secrets (2)

Mikael adjusted his dress and wig as he got ready to leave his room, while Beth walked ahead of him to open the door. He glanced at her, exchanging a quick nod before she reached for the door handle. Just as she was about to open it, a sudden loud bang echoed from Nicolaus' study next door, startling them both.

Beth's hand trembled slightly from the noise outside, feeling the vibrations it sent travel from the floor through up into her feet. When she finally swung the door open, Mikael caught a glimpse of Nicolaus' back as he disappeared down the corridor. 

Following behind him, he noticed Sir Daelan's armor catching the pale light of winter, glinting as their hurried footsteps echoed through the space.

Mikael's curiosity grew, trying to figure out what was so important that it made them leave in such a hurry.
