Mikael reclined his back against the pillows, feeling the rustle of the sheets on his skin.

"Here is your breakfast, my lord," Beth said as she set the tray of food on the table, where the scent of the baked bread wafted from the guest room through the bedroom.

"Thank you, Beth," Mikael said, his eyes watching her move.

Yesterday, after days of looking for Beth, she finally showed herself. But she also came back with some bruises, and Mikael was particularly worried about the bandages on her knees.

He was concerned for his maid, that she might have been injured in some way. However, she would brush off his worries, waving her hands and keeping a reassuring smile on her face.

Still, Mikael could not shake the feeling that there was something she was hiding. Something she wasn't telling him.

But he eventually stopped asking for answers after she continued to insist that her wounds were minor and they were nothing.
