23 Chapter 23

Marisol POV-

"Yes anyway.. can we go now?"..

"You're not the same as you were." Her eyebrows furrowed as if she was working something out.

"None of us are. We all had to change at some point.."

"That's true... Right anyway. Let's go"

Nat opened the door to the dining hall where Victor, his wife, 'Khan', Roman and Bean were sitting together. Everyone looked over except Alex, who casually picked up her glass and drank a mouthful. Her elven features and reduced pigment made her stand out in any crowd, there is no way I can ignore her presence even if I wanted to. She lost focus and glanced to me while wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, freezing and looking away just as quick.

"Good morning Lilith." Victor grinned warmly..

"Good morning." I smiled back to everyone even though I can still clearly feel the tension in the room. Roman nodded to me and Bean didn't do anything. Victor's wife offered me a warm smile though. I can definitely see which parent Alex takes more after, looks wise anyway. The weird thing is, I don't even think I've seen her open her mouth yet..

"Sit down.." Victor smiled to me, gesturing the empty seat between him and Alex. I calmly walked over and took my seat.. I glanced at their faces again and once I got to Victor's wife she looked away quickly, just like Alex did..

"I don't like how we left things yesterday. I understand that you were just defending yourself. I hope we can get past this with no hard feelings?.." I was genuinely surprised at Romans words but I think I did well to hide it.

"Of course we can.." I spoke confidently.

"Good." He nodded with a slight smile.. "-well Bean wanted to prove that she's not holding a grudge either.."

NEUTRAL POV-

Bean closed her eyes, taking a deep breath before she stood up and walked around the table to Lilith.. "I need you to stand up." As Bean spoke an uneasy feeling settled itself in Liliths stomach. Bean guided Lilith a little away from the table.

They stood facing eachother for a few moments before she reached out her hands, placing them either side of Liliths head. Another second went by and the air began whizzing around them.. The wind gained momentum, barely anything could be seen through the dusty tornado, also protecting them from any interference. A white almost bluish light looked as though it was coming from Liliths chest, illuminating the whole room. As the light grew brighter Lilith got weaker.. Her feet lifted an inch off the ground.. Victor jumped up to stop the transaction but was swiftly pulled back to his seat by Roman.. "Wouldn't it be better for us if Bean had wings? Imagine what we could do with someone we actually know we can trust.."

Khan had already ran at the tornado attempting to break through it but to no use, the wind easily pushed her back. Both Nats and Khans attempts were fruitless, as each one ran towards it at full speed but nothing happened.

Suddenly it was as though the dusty tornado had paused in the air.. The scene was now clear to everyone.. Liliths lifeless body hung pale and weak, as the last few pieces of life were stripped from her.. The ball of light between them was almost full. But to everyone's surprise Lilith reached out her hand and grabbed Beans throat.. Her head straightened up, her eyes opened to reveal two pale orbs. The light poured back into her body, a pink hue returned to her cheeks. The dark circles beneath her eyes faded. She now looked as though she'd never endured weeks of starving. The dust in the air began furiously spinning in the opposite direction, once again shielding the two from view.

Lilith and Bean both rose up into the air, easily five feet above the ground.. Liliths huge wings opened up and the two began to spin in the air slowly.. Bean now knew that she had made a grave mistake. Her head looked like it could pop at the pressure while her hands desperately grasped at the one squeezing around her throat.

Lilith let some pressure off of Beans neck so that she could take a breath, just as she did Lilith opened her mouth wide. A green light source began to form in Beans throat.. The bright whispy green light streamed from her mouth and straight into Liliths. As the light entered her body Lilith could feel the power that was quickly becoming a part of her. The energy lit up like green lightning bolts across her skin as she inhaled it entirely..

Bean quickly lost consciousness and then her life altogether.. In mere moments it was over. Lilith dropped Beans lifeless body to the floor.. the dust in the room began to settle as Lilith lowered herself back to the ground.. Her wings stayed open, ready for any retaliation that may come her way. After all she killed Jeremy, now she has also killed his beloved Bean.

Nobody moved. After Lilith had blinked a few times her eyes began to return back to their usual state.. "Khan take Lilith to her room.".. Victor gestured to the door. He glanced back to Roman who had began clenching his fists on the table, tears falling down his cheeks.

"But-" Khan began..

"Now!" He shouted just as Roman lunged over the table.. Victor quickly grabbed around his waist as he got half way across.

"I'll kill you!!"

Marisol POV-

This is deja vu I swear. Before I could think of how to defend myself from Roman, I saw a blur of white, someone lifted me into the air everything went so fast it, my hair flew around wildly in the cold wind, thrashing my face.. when everything stopped moving I was at the bottom of the stairs. Alex put me down as she panted for breath.. not even a second past before she grabbed my hand and practically dragged me up the stairs.

As we got to my door she opened it and pushed me inside.. She stood for a moment, just looking at me.. "I have to go back.." Then she closed the door and left. Well that is not what I was expecting to happen. But it was Beans own fault.. she almost killed me.. instead I gained more power than one person should ever have. I can feel it inside, like an energy that is radiating in my core. Right now feel as though I could win a battle against Hercules.

My wings are open, that's probably why Alex was panting so much.. but she could have told me to put them back or something.. oh well. I wonder what is happening with Roman.. He's probably killed Victor by now. Or maybe not, I don't really know these people too well.

A shower seemed to be a good idea so that's what I did.. as I removed the bandages I realised that everything had healed. Now only thin scars remained. I plucked a stitch out of my arm and dropped the thread onto the bathroom floor. Before my eyes the small wound healed to nothing. As I continued with each stitch including the ones in my neck the same thing happened.

After my shower I got dressed into a baggy dark grey t-shirt with a stupid logo of a grunge band on the front and a pair of light grey jogging bottoms. I sat looking out of my window for what seemed like hours. Finally a knock at the door.. "Come in.." The door opened to reveal Nat as she walked inside and closed the door. She looks a little beat up. I can see that her eye is bruised, a little bit of blood on the end of her nose and a busted lip.

"Victor told me to tell you that everything is fine.." She smiled..

"Then why do I have this strange feeling that you're lying to me?" I replied calmly. Her face dropped..

"I can't tell you.." Nat spoke as she looked away from me..

"Why can't you tell me?" I asked as I stood up..

"Victor told me not to" She looked back to me like she was okay with that answer.

"But it involves me?.. Doesn't it?" I asked and she didn't reply.. only looked to the ground for safety.

"Give me your hand I want to try something.." I held out my hand for her to take.

"No.. you'll probably try to suck out my soul or something.." Nat furrowed her eyebrows and stepped away from me.

"I'm not going to hurt you, I promise." I shook my head offering my hand once again. She eyed me for a moment before slowly stepping forward and giving me her hands..

I closed my eyes and in seconds the wind began swishing around us.. I could feel the warmth of the energy pouring out of my hands. I was in control of every last ounce of it as it traveled to her face and all the way down the her cracked ribs. A moment later I felt that it was done. The wind stopped and I looked to Nats freshly healed face. "That wasn't so bad was it?" I asked while letting go of her hands.. her eyes were still fixed on me, as if mesmerised by something.. She slowly shook her head 'no'.. "What's wrong?"

Nat blinked a few times before speaking.. "Roman left with all of his people and said that he is going to burn us all to the ground.." I furrowed my eyebrows.. I tried to think of what to say but as time went on of me looking to her uneasy expression, I was at a loss for words. I'm not really sure I care too much.. I can fly and Alex can run. But the children would burn too.. "Aren't you going to say 'anything?'.."

"I don't know what to say.. would Victor and Roman really kill each other?"

"This is going to be a war.. starting tomorrow we have to choose a side.. then we have to fight.."

"Do you want me to try to kill him?" I asked still puzzled. I mean this is kinda my fault.. these people are in danger because I'm here.

"I mean.. he left a little while ago but I guess you could probably catch up since you can fly.. I'll go ask Victor-" Nat was cut off by the door being flung open.

"You won't say a word about this to Victor." Alex demanded.. It's like she just appears out of nowhere.

"You know that she can do it.." Nat looked to Alex.

"I don't care if she can. That's not happening. It's not safe to go alone and you know that Victor would send her anyway, because she will say that she can do it.." Alex finally looked at me with disappointment in her eyes.

"But Lilith could finish this for us right now.." Nat responded with more enthusiasm in her voice this time.

"I said No."

"Well then I guess it's a good thing this isn't up to you." I stated simply before walking past them both and leaving the room.. We don't really have time for this.

As I got half way Alex turned up by my side in a flash.. "Why are you doing this?"

"Someone needs to." I replied calmly continuing to walk..

"That someone isn't you.." Alex grabbed my wrist to stop me.

I slowly turned back to her. I understand that she thinks she loves me but it's clearly not good for her.. "You need to stop this.. your ups and downs are not good for either of us.." I let go of her hand and continued walking.. I looked behind before turning the corner to see her still looking back at me from the stairs.. her eyes are watering and it does hurt a little to see her like that. But I also have the overwhelming urge to take Romans power from him.

Just as I reached out my hand to knock on the door to Victor's office, a white blur clouded my vision.. I was lifted into the air, a few seconds later I was outside. Everyone must be inside preparing or something, I can't see or hear another person out here. Aside from the snipers in towers far away from us. "What are you doing?" I asked tiredly as I looked to Alex. I can now see that she'd been crying from her red puffy eyes.

"I can't let you.." She did her best to hold in the emotion but the tears were still streaming.

"What do you even get from me being here anyway?"

"I know where you are, I know that you're safe.. Why are you trying to risk your life for this?" Her reply came quick.

"What will you do when the fight comes to us? Then we will all be risking our lives.. What would we do with the children? With the elderly?.. It isn't always about me.." Perhaps the barrier in my mind was weakened when I became more powerful.. Somehow I care a little about what is going to happen to them.

"You care?" Alex picked up on it straight away..

"I guess I do." I replied matter of factly.

She smiled again before it slowly dropped from her face.. "Then I really can't stop you.. but I can go with you. We can do it together." She nodded.

"No.. no way" I shook my head.

"What?.. you're not going alone."

"Then I'll take Nat or something.."

"No.. you're not taking Nat."

"What is your thing with Nat, why don't you like each other?" ..

"What is it with everyone and twenty questions?" Alex began pacing.. "I don't have a 'thing' with Nat.. she's the one that has a 'thing' with me."

"If I ask what the 'thing' is will you spontaneously combust?" After I spoke she stopped walking and looked to me.. her face lit up and she chuckled..

"My dad obviously knows that I'm never going to be with a man.. he tried to set me up with Nat and I said no. I guess she sees it as me rejecting her.. she took it harder than I expected.." Alex shrugged.

"Holy shit." I couldn't help but let out a few laughs.. Alex and Nat? Together? Don't make me scream. I pictured it for a moment and had to laugh again as I shook my head to get the image out.

"But you did reject her though.." I pointed my finger.

"Okay, yes, I rejected her.. she's just not for me.." Alex offered simply.

"Do you think Victor will even let you come with me?"

"Who do you think he would send if you weren't here?.." She looked to me plain faced.

"Fine.. If he says you can go then we'll go together.." As I spoke her face lit up again.. "How far can you run?"

"I don't need to run.." She shook her head laughing.. "Anyway we better hurry up."

We walked together back inside and it was quiet until Alex spoke.. "Did you heal Nat?"

"Yeah why?"

"Be careful.. she falls pretty hard. I think she's already taken a liking to you." Probably didn't help that I practically flaunted myself infront of her. I told her she could turn around and it is my room. I wouldn't say I did anything wrong.

"Is that jealously I hear in your voice?"

"No.. actually it's anger."..

"Why are you angry? And what is going to happen when we get back-"

"-'If' we get back.." I stopped walking to glare at her for a second before continuing.

"I mean are you just going to carry on avoiding me at all cost?"..

"I'm not-"

"-Don't lie" I added..

"I don't like to feel things."

"You might not know what your feelings mean.. How do you know you don't love me the same way you love your dad?."

"Because I don't want to sleep with my dad.." She looked to me as if to make a point before realising what she actually said. Her eyebrows raised and she quickly glanced away. A pink blush spread across her pale cheeks.. "Can we please pretend I didn't just say that?"

"Say what?" I still couldn't help but smile at her embarrassment. Alex just looked to me and looked away again. She knows it can never be unsaid.

Eventually we made it to Victor's office, before Alex even knocked I could hear him talking inside with someone. "What is it?!"

Alex opened the door, we both walked inside and I could now see two men and Nat sitting infront of him. "Could we speak privately for a minute?" She asked politely.

"Leave us" Victor nodded to them. Each one quickly stood up and left the room.

Alex made her proposal.. We go now, only take out Roman and anyone who tries to stop us.

"Roman would already be back before you reach him.." Victor replied.. "I'm organising scouts to be placed on every route. We will know ten minutes before they arrive, that is enough time to get the vulnerable citizens into the bunker.."

"At least let us try." Alex began to sound frustrated..

"You just gave me an idea.. Lilith can you shoot?" Victor looked to me straight faced.

"I'm not very good.." I shrugged. I'm not sure why he said he had an idea when it wasn't even his idea.

"Well you have just over two hours to get good.. If not, a lot of people are most likely going to die.." I literally just came here and now I'm really risking my life for this, I guess I did offer.. but also I don't want to shoot Roman to kill him. I want his power to be mine. He doesn't deserve it, brainwashing people to do and be whatever he wants, maybe I can do some good with it. "Khan take Lilith to the range.."

"Does this mean I can go with her?" She asked. He looked to her suspiciously before nodding.

"I suppose it could benefit Lilith to have someone that knows the place.."

"Thank you.." Alex bowed her head before opening the door for us to leave.

She closed the door behind herself and just stopped again to look at me.. "What is it?" I asked.

"Nothing.." Alex shook her head and began walking. I followed next to her.

"You're lying.." I spoke with a plain tone.

"I was just day dreaming.."

"About me?" I smiled.

"Shut up.." Alex rolled her eyes and I couldn't help but laugh..

"You're not denying it.."

"You told me not to Lie." Her reply took me by surprise. I didn't laugh this time. I just wondered what exactly she was daydreaming about.
