It never occurred to me that those small words of encouragement would one day set my life on a path I never thought I'd have to one day walk through. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What would you do if you were suddenly told, your entire life has been a lie. That you have quite a line of people who want you dead for reasons unknown to you, simply because you bear the last name.... Carter. Well, this is my story of how I struggled to overcome my biggest fears.

Chapter 28

I block the side attack from Devon a lot faster than I thought I could and kick the back of his knee with my bare leg, he drops to one knee in surprise and I twirl to stand behind him with my wooden sword to his neck. “I win!” I say smugly.

Smiling, he raises both hands into the air in defeat. My improvement in self-defence class is getting better and better though I’m still a lot slower than most of my peers.

I called up Devon after school was out and scheduled an impromptu training session despite it not being Monday, I just needed to let go of all the tension I felt today.

Ever since the bonfire a month ago, for whatever reason Trinity has made it her mission to piss me off every chance she gets.

Usually, I'd dismiss her pettiness, but today she really hit a sore spot. She and her groupie friends were seconds away from having their teeth knocked out of their mouths when Tamil and Lillian intervened by dragging me away from a confrontation.
