Come to blows

There is no passion or anger or any emotion at all. Lue still sitting among the crowd waiting for the fight to end, so that she can get done with hers soon too. It almost doesn't make sense to her, what's the reason to have combat training like this? She got up shaking the dust off and stretched her muscles a little.

It had only been two hours before she found Adrina, the five feet ten-inch bully or might she say beast, standing in front of Lue in the spar. Everyone stood around cheering and watching the fight which didn't even start and Lue's guts seemingly spilled out on the ground. Okay, more like her lunch.

"Fight till you can't fight anymore," Mr.Kael said as he blew his whistle.

At first, Adrina had the upper hand, putting Lue in a handlock, and making a pretzel out of her arms and legs. Not cool. Her extra meat around her stomach made it even more difficult for Lue to breathe. The rain made her nearly lose her mind. Why me, Lue thought.

Adrina had the upper hand and she felt hopeless until she said, "Even the 'petite' size is still too big for you." then she laughed out loud, literally frenzied.

Lue officially lost it. 'Petite' how dare she even use that to a five feet four like me. While getting up from the sludge, Lue thought to herself how she is not able to concentrate since a while ago because her heart is beating so fast! She has been shaken?! Well, who wouldn't be after seeing that...but due to that, she became dumb. She is strong, but she will be at a huge disadvantage if she got a little too agitated in front of a great enemy. She thought for a moment that the reason her heart was thumping was because of Adrina's height and body. But no...That's not it. It comes from her being shaken up and being blocked again and again and over again, which happened for the first time in a while, by Adrina. Do you get it? The same old stunts won't work on that beast. That's right, something reckless.

"Hey, Adrina..." Lue called, as she was standing straight, holding her head high.

Adrina flinched, "This midget..." she muttered.

Lue takes her stance, right foot in front, left slightly in back putting her body weight equally on both of her legs. turning her right hand into a fist while moving and stretching her fingers of the left hand. "Come at me, I know, I can win."

Adrina's face darkened. She seemed to swell up. She exploded at her. Just launched herself forward with her right arm scything around in a giant roundhouse strike. Lue sidestepped her body and ducked under her arm and bounced up again and spun around. She stopped short on stiff legs and whipped back towards Lue. They had changed places. Now that Lue is more aware, she panicked and came at her again. Same move. Her right arm swung. Lue sidestepped and ducked and they were back where they started.

But Lue was breathing harder than Adrina.

"If I break your legs, you will use ladders as crutches," Lue said.

She tried her best to provoke her, but it seems like this ain't her thing. That was the best she could come up with at that moment. But it worked. It did, with a certain type of girl. It worked well with Adrina. She came at Lue again, with no hesitation. The same move again. This time Lue crashed an elbow into her side, and Lue spun under her arm. She bounced straight off of locked knees and came right back on her. Lue dodged away again and felt the breeze as her giant fist passed an inch above her head.

Adrina stood there, panting. Lue was gaining her stamina back and warming up nicely. Lue was beginning to feel she had some kind of a chance. Adrina was a poor fighter, which she realized just now. Lots of big people are. Either their sheer size is so intimidating it stops fights from ever starting in the first place, or else it lets them win everyone directly after their first punch lands. Either way, they don't get much practice. They don't develop much finesse and they get out of shape. Weights machines and treadmills are no substitute for the kind of urgent, anxious, breathless tight-throat high-adrenaline fitness you need to fight on the ground. Lue figured Adrina was a prime example. She figured that Adrina had a weight lifted herself right out of the frame.

Lue blew her a kiss.

Adrina swarmed through the air at Lue. Come on like a pile driver. Lue dogged left and put an elbow in her face and she connected with her left hand and knocked her sideways like Lue weighed nothing at all. Lue went down on one knee and got up just in time to arch around her next crazy lunge. Her fist missed Lue's gut by a quarter-inch and its wild momentum pulled her past Lue and down a little which put the side of her head right in line for a left hook. Lue let it go with everything she had from her toes on. Lue's first crashed into her ear and with a colossal right to her jaw. Then she danced back and took a breather and tried to see what damage she'd done.

No damage.

Lue had hit her four times and it was like she hadn't hit her at all. The two elbows had been solid smashes and the two punches had been as hard as anything she had ever thrown in her life. There was blood on her upper lip from the second elbow, but there was absolutely nothing else wrong with her. Theoretically, she should have been unconscious. Or in a coma. It was probably sixteen years since Lue ever had to hit more than four times. Yeah, exactly, anything you do in life there's always a first time. Was it because her legs and arms were butter? Try having a tall dude on your back and getting punched for five minutes straight. Lue didn't sign up for this.

Adrina showed no pain. No concern. She wasn't unconscious. She wasn't in a coma. She was dancing around and smiling again. She was relaxed. Moving easy. Huge. Impregnable. There was no way to hurt her. Lue looked at her and knew for sure she had no chance at all. And she looked at Lue and knew exactly what she was thinking. Her smile widened. Got balanced on both feet and hunched her shoulders down low and held her hands out in front of her like claws. She stamped her feet, left, right, left, right. It was like she was pawing the ground. Like she was going to come and tear Lue apart. The smile distorted into a terrible wide grin of pleasure. Not a cute kitty if you asked Lue, personally.

She came straight at her and Lue dogged left. But she was ready for that maneuver and she landed a right hook in the center of Lue's chest. It felt exactly like being hit by a four-hundred-weight lifter moving at six miles an hour. Her sternum seemed to crack and Lue thought her heart would stop from the shock. Lue came up off her feet and went down on her back. Then it was about choosing to live or choosing to die. To die? Never! She chooses to live, she wanted to be happy with her mother, they were happy and no one could touch the way they laughed in the darkest hour and she couldn't give up on that, they were tied with a smile that couldn't come undone that too just because of some lousy training like this. I WILL WIN. AND SHOW THAT BEANSTALK WHAT I CAN DO. IT'S ABOUT PRIDE NOW.

Rolled over twice and pushed with her hands and levered herself upright. Jumped back and sideways and dodged a straight drive that could've killed her. Literally.

Her mind was absorbed with surviving thoughts, she forgot that this wasn't a battlefield but a simple school ground. All the cheering and hooting from students disappeared the only thing she could hear right now was her breath and the inner voice.

"Not in a million years," She shouted, pushing Adrina hard with all her leftover strength to the sludge and getting her in a tight choke-hold. Adrina resisted way too well, Lue didn't give up she held Adrina like a serpent. Her face turned red. Adrina tapped out in a matter of seconds. The whistle blew and Lue was finally able to hear everyone else, there was a rush of applause and screaming from her classmates and even from other students. Adrina remained in the sludge which was slowly becoming mud now, since it was finally downpouring rather than those fine rain small droplets annoyingly falling now and then for the past few minutes. Rain was pouring down on her as if she were a thirsty plant.

Lue realized at that moment, she may not have the most muscles or the greatest height but she did have some skillful hands and the greatest luck of all time. It may one day save her in a real battle. Eve and Beric rushed towards Lue and gave their shoulders for her to rest on as they guided Lue to the infirmary. Some of Adrina's dogs help her. Lue wanted to hear all those stolen lullabies right now, as she closed her eyes and puts all her weight on both of them.
