Zara Kincaid stood at the edge of the makeshift loading bay as the first rays of dawn painted the horizon. Around her, the supply run team prepped their gear—tightening straps, checking ammo, and whispering last-minute prayers. Despite the organized chaos, Zara couldn’t shake the heavy weight of unease pressing on her chest.
"You're too quiet," Callum said, coming up beside her. His voice was steady, but his eyes betrayed the same unease she felt.
"I’m thinking," Zara replied. "This mission is more than just a supply run. Kade’s testing us, seeing how far he can push before we push back."
"Then let’s not give him a reason to win," Callum muttered, gripping the hilt of his blade. "We go in, we get the supplies, and we get out. No heroics."
Zara gave him a faint smile. "Since when are you the cautious one?"
