Ch 2 : Souvenir
Who would leave a baby here and that too alone..plus why did this baby seem soooo strange....
"Oh my God it's an actual baby and she is alive , who left you here baby ?" Caroline muttered as she approached the baby with caution and curiosity . The others were silent and observed everything at a 'safe' distance from the child ..Caroline the only white woman present carried the baby and kissed her forehead , making the little one grab unto her finger and stare into her eyes , the baby smiled and muttered "mama " ...Caroline was shocked , yet overwhelmed with happiness as she hugged they infant , not even considering how a child that young could utter words. "My child , oh my baby" she said amidst tears " Lucas " she screamed at her husband as she laughed amidst tears " God answered my prayers ...he finally made me a mother , he made us parents " she smiled as she stared at the little bundle of Joy in her hands ...Lucas on the other hand did not share her sentiments this time ..."Lina baby don't cry , dont you find it strange that a child this young will be found here at this time and that too alone " he whispered , " she's not yours Caroline , she might be a demon or something" he tried reasoning with her ." What do mean Lucas ? You want me to abandon a baby when I could help her ? What kind of heart do you have ? She asked staring at her Husband with disappointment in her eyes ..and as though agreeing to what she was saying the baby bursts into tears and began crying...."Ughhhh don't make it sound like am heartless ok? Am just saying we should be logical about this " Lucas said rolling his eyes .." so what Mr Logical , I don't care if she's a demon or a god damn time bomb , she called me mama hubby , this is a sign " caroline replied staring at her Husband with tear glazed eyes ..." I can't leave her , she looks so innocent God knows what she has been through " she reasoned Lucas sighed bringing his wife into her arms , they had gone through alot trying to conceive , maybe this dark skinned angel could be the answer to their problems .." ok babe you win but lets do this the right way ok..let me carry the baby " ...Caroline handed the baby to him and they realised the others were almost done boarding the ship ..."wow so much for being humane " she muttered unable to believe they were so uncaring and unconcerned by the discovery .."well on the bright side we did get our souvenir " Lucas said and they both laughed and boarded the ship as well...
They later decided to return to the town , and trace the child's roots , but after a month wasted moving from one police station to the other and from one TV house to the other ...they agreed on adopting the child and making her theirs ...they named her Dawn , hoping that just like the beginning of a new day , she may be a bearer of hope ...and thus they returned the family of three returned to their home in Ottawa , Canada....
5 years later
"Dawn let's watch Cartoons , am bored " riele Dawn's best friend said while pouting her lips , " Ughhhh stop doing that , it's childish" Dawn said rolling her eyes , "but I am a child , am just 5 years old " rielle replied twitching her lips"right should I get you a pacifier " Dawn taunted and they burst out laughing ... they've been friends for four years today and are like twins . After a few breathes rielle spoke " I heard from my parents that you'll start attending classes at my school come Monday is it true ? " "Yeah , but am nervous , it's a new environment you know " Dawn replied with a small smile .."OMG I can't wait , I'll show them all that my bestie is the most beautiful girl in the whole world " Riele said with alot of enthusiasm.."silly girl stop smiling like that your face might develop wrinkles.." Dawn laughed ...trying to push aside the uneasiness she felt inside..The nightmare she experienced the previous night , was still fresh in her young mind...
