Chapter 6: Safe place

It's the bracelet, but Burnout was wearing one exactly like it…is it possible there are two? "What is it?" Xavier asks. "It's the bracelet, but Burnout has one as well, is it possible there are two?" I speak. Nathen looks at us and says, "This bracelet was given to our family a long time ago. I was told there were only two in the whole world, but I could never find the other one." I smiled and kissed Nathen on the forehead and said, "Xavier, if there are two, does that mean that we need both of them?" Xavier nods his head and I lay down exhausted and ask, "How do we get the other one?" There was no answer, so I looked at Xavier and he was staring at Nathen, but it was weird.

"Xavier?" I ask. He looks my way and smiles, but he comes over to me and asks, "Can I transform?" I look at Xavier and then at Nathen, I grab Nathen and pull him to me and nod my head. I hold Nathen in my arms and Xavier transforms into his wolf form and walks over to us. Nathen closes his eyes and shakes in my arms, I hold Nathen close playing with his hair and say, "It's ok Nate, Xavier is a wolf, and he will protect us and keep us safe." Nathen looked at me with a sparkle in his eyes, I noticed what I said and instantly said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…" He hugs me and says, "Thank you." I smile and Xavier comes over and nudges my shoulder.

"Someone's a little jealous." I say smiling. He growls and I laugh and start petting him and he lays down next to me. Nathen starts playing with his fur and we all rest together until morning comes. After the light comes into the cave I wake up and see us three sleeping together, Nathen is in the middle of us, and Xavier has his arm over the both of us protecting us. I smile and Xavier opens his eyes and I look away quickly. It feels like we are a family and Nathen was our kid, but he would never accept me as his mom. I sit up and gather our things while Xavier makes breakfast and Nathen sleeps. I go over and wake him, after we all ate, we set out to the safe place. We came across a couple of walkers, but that was no problem, after we walked forever, we saw a gate.

Nathen runs up to it and knocks on it, we rush over to him, and I keep him in my arms making sure to keep him safe. He looks up at me and smiles, he then grabs my hand and holds it while the gate opens. We were greeted, but Nathen was pulled away from me like we kidnapped him. I go to reach for him, but a woman stops me saying, "Don't you dare touch him again." Nathen's eyes widen and he shakes his head and runs over to me seeing tears in my eyes. He hugs me tightly and the woman yells, "Nathen get away from her now!" Nathen shakes his head no and Xavier walks over and puts his hand on Nathen's shoulder saying, "He is with us now." The woman stomps off and we are walked inside and over to a house. Nathen enters the house and I shut the door after we have entered. I see pictures of him, his dad, and apparently his mother.

"Welcome home." Nathen says looking at us smiling. I smile at him, and he shows us around his home. "If I could, can we go back to our home and grab our things and live here with you?" I ask Nathen. He nods, grinning and says, "I'm coming with you." I smile and we enter Nathen's room full of toys and other things. I smile and look around his room, it reminds me of if I had a son. I sit on his bed, and he sits next to me and so does Xavier, but I grab the portal shard. I see Zach being tortured on a cliff, I look around the surroundings and he sees me. He smiles secretly, but he looks beside me. I look down and see Nathen beside me, but how is he beside me?

Burnout leaves him hanging over the edge and I walk over to him and pull him back onto the ground. He hugs me and looks down at Nathen asking, "How is this boy seeing this?" I shrug my shoulders and hold up Nathen's arm showing the bracelet and say, "Zach this is Nathen, Nathen this is my twin brother Zach." Zach shakes Nathen's hand and rubs his hand in his hair smiling. I smile and Burnout comes around the corner seeing me and…Nathen! "Well look at this, you found both items Hope. Who is this? Is this your son?" Burnout asks. I go to say no, but Nathen walks up to him saying, "Yes, she is my mother…and may I ask who you are?" My eyes widen and Burnout turns to me and smiles, "My name is Burnout and I'm your mother's father. You have such a confident kid, Hope." "I will never call you my father, you monster!" I yell.

He laughs and walks close to Nathen, and I move in front of him protecting him. "Come to me at once, or Zach and everyone you love will die." He speaks. I let go of the portal shard and quickly looked at Nathen and hugged him, almost crying. "What happened?" Xavier askes. I look at him and then back at Nathen saying, "He can see with me, and he just met Burnout. He wants me to come, or he will kill everyone, Xavier we have to find a way to save everyone." "Mom, it will be ok." Nathen says. I look at Nathen and a tear slips down my cheek and he hug me while Xavier says, "Wait, what?!"
