52 having a Ball - part 2

I had to hold my chuckling when Gilderoy started to sing the song. I knew this prank I pulled was for me alone. The truth is the song, when released, was a hit. Topping the charts for five weeks and winning the best single of 1988 in Britain. But I only knew what the song would become, the Rickroll meme, so popular that Rick Astley did a live rickroll of the Thanksgiving parade in 2008. It was the song you loved, the song you hated.

•Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley•

♫We're no strangers to love

You know the rules, and so do I (do I)

A full commitment's what I'm thinking of

You wouldn't get this from any other guy♫

Thankfully, Gilderoy was quite a good singer and danced with the mic.

♫I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling

Gotta make you understand♫

The females of the crowd squealed and ran to the stage edge. I looked at him and shrugged at what was happening.

♫Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down

Never gonna run around and desert you

Never gonna make you cry

Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you♫

This started as a joke, but Lockhart didn't know that, and now I think he missed his calling.

♫We've known each other for so long

Your heart's been aching, but you're too shy to say it (say it)

Inside, we both know what's been going on (going on)

We know the game and we're gonna play it

And if you ask me how I'm feeling

Don't tell me you're too blind to see♫

The crowd loved him; even the guys were digging it.

♫Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down

Never gonna run around and desert you

Never gonna make you cry

Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you♫

When the song ended, the crowd cheered and applauded. I had no idea that Gilderoy could sing that well. I even clapped for him because it was a stellar performance.

"Thank you, thank you." Gilderoy said, "Now enjoy the rest of the show." he went off stage to mingle with his fans.

"Professor Lockhart, everybody!" I said as I got hold of the mic again, issuing another round of applause for the teacher. "you know it's fun to see everyone's costumes." I said, getting back into the role of Master of Ceremonies, "plenty of werewolves and vampires. I also see a few princesses, hoping to win a Prince Charming, no doubt." I joked and smiled.

"Look, the pumpkin-headed twins came as pumpkin-headed Twins." I pointed out Fred and Geroge, who had turned their heads into actual pumpkins.

"even some of the professors have joined the fun; Professor Flitwick has come as an Arabian prince", he was dressed in a turban and on a floating carpet. "and Professor Snape has come as a big bat", I said

"Master, Professor Snape is not wearing a costume," Tim said in his best Igor voice.

"What!" I feigned shock. "are you sure?"

"Yes, Master," Timgor said.

"and they call me mad," I said in sadness

"Yes, Master," Timgor said again.

"wait, they do?" I feigned shock once again. "Oh well, never mind that." Then, we started to play the second Halloween anthem.

• Monster Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett •

♫I was working in the lab late one night

When my eyes beheld an eerie sight

For my monster, from his slab, began to rise

And suddenly, to my surprise♫

I sang in my best mad scientist voice. accompanied by thunder and lighting and shadow puppets of monsters.

♫(he did the Mash) he did the Monster Mash

(The Monster Mash) it was a graveyard smash

(He did the Mash) it caught on in a flash

(He did the Mash) he did the Monster Mash♫

The Monster Mash was a dance, and it was from the swinging sixties. So I played and sang I was twisting and swinging. During the course, I was doing the mash.

♫From my laboratory in the Castle east

To the master bedroom, where the vampires feast

The ghouls all came from their humble abodes

To get a jolt from my electrodes♫

"mwahaha", I let out an evil laugh

♫(they did the Mash) they did the Monster Mash

(The Monster Mash) it was a graveyard smash

(They did the Mash) it caught on in a flash

(They did the Mash) they did the Monster Mash♫

I giggled after we finished our performance of "Monster Mash." "As you know, we are Arcane Rhythms. That's Tim on drums and Grant on piano, but let me introduce our newest member, Miss Tina Cross on bass." The crowd clapped as Tina played a bass riff. "but not only that, she is a singer, so take it away, Tina," I said. I stepped back from the mic just to play guitar.

I chose this song because when I heard Tina sing Hello, I knew this kind of song was great for her.

•Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson•

♫Here's the thing: we started out friends

It was cool but it was all pretend

Yeah, yeah

Since you've been gone♫

Tina sang, and with my magic of song, I made a spotlight for her and, darkening the rest of us, this is her debut.

♫You dedicated, you took the time

Wasn't long 'til I called you mine

Yeah, yeah

Since you've been gone♫

Tina had her eyes closed, but she was singing perfectly.

♫And all you'd ever hear me say

Is how I pictured me with you

That's all you'd ever hear me say♫

"open your eyes, Tina", I whispered to her before she hit the crouse. When she did, she saw her friends and schoolmates dancing to her singing, which gave her the courage to belt out the crouse.

♫But since you've been gone

I can breathe for the first time

I'm so moving on

Yeah, yeah

Thanks to you

Now I get what I want

Since you've been gone♫

I had fun with the lights, giving Tina an incredible light show for her debut.

---

After Tina Stella's performance, I grabbed the mic. "let's hear it for Tina Cross," I yelled, ecstatic for her. I waited for the applause to die down. "we're going to take a short break", I said. I hit play on the mix tape, and the first dance song came on •Footloose by Kenny Loggins•.
