Chapter 72: Why Can't It Be You?

As they were about to leave the Forbidden Forest, Fred and George finally resigned themselves to their fate and stopped struggling. But they were still grumbling about Kyle's wasteful behavior.

"There was so much more. We wasted at least a Galleon."

Fred was holding the hem of his robe, using it as a large pocket. It was filled with a mountain of silver "Moonstone."

George was also in the same pose. They looked like two kangaroos.

Kyle didn't say anything. He just gave a perfunctory reply.

He didn't have the energy. It was very late. The initial novelty of seeing the Mooncalfs dance had passed, and the sleepiness from staying up late started to creep in.

He just wanted to go back to the dorm, lie down on his warm, comfortable bed, and get a good night's sleep.

When they reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest, a bark and heavy footsteps suddenly came from a distance.

Hagrid!

The group was startled. They immediately dropped to the ground.

Kyle quickly pulled out his Invisibility Cloak.

Although it was a bit small for five people, it couldn't completely cover everyone. But luckily, they were in the Forbidden Forest. The lush bushes were also a good cover.

The footsteps got closer. They could clearly see Hagrid's massive figure.

Kyle, holding the Invisibility Cloak, lay at the front, nervously holding his breath.

"Who's there? Come out!" Hagrid, holding a dim oil lamp, stopped near them. "I see you!"

Behind Hagrid, Fang, the blackhound, also came.

He lowered his head and sniffed the ground, slowly approaching the place where Kyle and the others were hiding.

For a moment, everyone's heart was in their throat. They all covered their mouths with their hands, trying not to make a sound.

Fang got closer and closer. The distance between them was quickly less than a meter. Kyle could even clearly see his small black eyes and the drool dripping from his mouth.

"Did you find anything?"

Hagrid also noticed Fang's strange behavior. He walked over with the oil lamp, shouting loudly, "I don't care who you are, but this is Hogwarts. It's not a place for people like you to come and go as you please!"

"Get out before I lose my temper. If I catch you, you'll be in trouble!"

Somehow, Fang, hearing Hagrid's voice, hesitated for a moment, then suddenly changed direction and walked towards the depths of the Forbidden Forest.

Hagrid followed closely behind him, passing by Kyle and the others.

Time ticked by. It wasn't until the footsteps completely disappeared that Kyle and the others finally relaxed. They lay on the ground, gasping for breath.

"That was exciting!" Cedric said, his face flushed. "Merlin's beard, I almost touched Hagrid's shoe. He almost stepped on my hand!"

"Oh, damn it." Fred, who had just gotten up from the ground, suddenly cried out. He looked at the sticky liquid on his hand and said with a long face, "I think I touched the dog's drool."

"You should be glad you only touched the drool." George said with a shudder, "Hagrid looked so scary. If he had caught us, it wouldn't have been as simple as detention."

As he spoke, George shivered.

This was the first time he had seen Hagrid so angry. With the overwhelming sense of pressure, he still shuddered when he thought about it.

"We really owe you guys this time." Kyle patted Fred and George on the shoulder.

If they hadn't been carrying a bunch of Mooncalf dung, confusing Fang's sense of smell, they wouldn't have been able to get away so easily.

After this unexpected event, the group didn't dare to delay. Taking advantage of the fact that Hagrid was still in the Forbidden Forest, they quickly ran towards the castle.

When they reached the passage exit, they didn't rush in. Instead, they took out the Marauder's Map. After confirming that Filch wasn't on the first floor, they went through the passage and returned to the castle.

Because they weren't going in the same direction, they separated after leaving the passage.

They were probably scared by what had just happened. They were very nervous on their way back.

Cedric felt his heart pounding. He couldn't help but say, "Kyle, do you think we'll get caught?"

"It's okay. If we're caught, we'll split up and run." Kyle whispered, "That way, he won't know who to chase."

"But…" Kanna said in a trembling voice, "I, I'm slow. What should I do?"

"Alright, that's a problem." Kyle thought for a moment, "How about this if we're caught, you run upstairs."

"Won't I get caught if I run upstairs?" Kanna asked in confusion.

"No, running upstairs isn't safe…" Kyle shook his head and explained, "But if you do that, Filch will chase you. Then Cedric and I can run back to the common room."

"..."

???

Kanna's eyes gradually became a little vacant, then they turned into anger in a very short time.

But Kyle didn't notice. He continued to whisper, "Catch one, run two. It's a good deal."

Kanna gritted her teeth, "Why do I have to be the one who gets caught?"

"Hmm… it's simple." Kyle thought for a moment, "If someone has to get hurt, why can't it be you?"

Somehow, Kanna suddenly stopped being nervous. She silently pulled out her wand and looked at Kyle's back, as if she was looking for a good place to stab him.

The snakewood wand's most prominent feature was its hardness. According to Ollivander, in some extreme situations, a snakewood wand could even be used as a melee weapon.

Kyle felt a chill down his spine. He unconsciously quickened his pace.

Nothing unexpected happened. The three of them successfully returned to the common room.

That was a given.

When they were looking at the Marauder's Map at the passage exit, Kylen noticed that the professors were all sleeping in their rooms, and Filch was on the eighth floor.

The distance from the Great Hall to the Hufflepuff common room wasn't far. If you walked quickly, it would take a few minutes.

That wasn't enough time for Filch to run down.

So, Cedric and Kanna's worries along the way were completely unnecessary.

"Good night. See you tomorrow." Kyle yawned and went back to the dorm.

He had planned to go to the kitchen and get something to eat when he got back. But as soon as he entered the common room, he couldn't hold on anymore.

His eyelids started to droop. His head was heavy. He just wanted to get a good night's sleep.

"Good night."

"Humph…"
