Something heavy was making it hard for me to breathe. I tried to push it away using my hand, but it seemed my hand was stuck as well. I steadily opened my eyes to see Naveah sleeping beside me with half of her body landed on me. With a slow pace of time, I recalled yesterday's memory when we had drinks and shared our lifestyle in the meantime.
"Shouldn't you be sleeping with your husband? What're you doing here?" I mumbled while pushing her hand away. She seemed to be in a deep sleep as I peeked at her face and saw drool sliding down her lips. I pushed myself to sit straight and felt a crack in my back. The nauseous and dizzy feelings were still lingering within me due to so much drinking.
Taking a long sigh, I glanced sideways, but the windows were covered with curtains.
The sleepy vibe was still attached to my eyelids as I tried to shoo it away by blinking. When I removed the curtain, it was hard for me to look ahead because of the bright sunlight.
"Mmh!! Close them..." Naveah pinched me in the back in her sleep and tried to bury her face behind me until I flicked her forehead with one of my fingers.
"Wake up! You married woman! Go to your husband."
She blinked twice and squinted her eyes to look at me. "Arian's working! Let me sleep."
I stared at her hopelessly and once again glanced outside to see all the people the size of an ant walking by in the middle of the long ribbon-like roads. We were on the 12th floor. It seemed like a puzzle to me how giant can this earth be?
Arian's ring on the telephone broke my scientific thoughts.
"Are you two awake?"
After taking a glimpse of Naveah's drooling face, I reported, "... Your wife is still asleep."
"Aw! Then let her sleep more."
"Stop with the cringe talk. Where will we have breakfast?"
Zurich was quite a famous place in Switzerland. Arian and I decided to have breakfast in a fancy Swiss restaurant since I decided to tour around there as long as I was staying. While we waited for Naveah to wake up, I turned on my phone to check it. But to my surprise, there was not a single missed call or text from Ethan as if he didn't even notice I was gone. I stared at the screen, frowning. Did he not care? No, He knew I plotted that. So it was no use contacting me. But what if I was kidnapped or lost? He could've at least tried to reach out for once.
"Hey! Get ready." Naveah pushed me, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Ah! Yeah. I'm going."
"What's on your face? Missing Ethan?" Her small lips cornered into a cheeky smirk that pushed my anger to a higher scale. "Shut up and go get dressed. I won't wait a single second if you're late."
"Tch so feisty! I get it, ok?"
I latched the door of the washroom behind me and glanced at the mirror. Why was I feeling that way? Was I regretting my action? Should I return? But...
"Does he really care, or was I just a part of his deal?" A new negative thought arose within my mind, which could be a hidden truth.
What if it was my dad, who asked him to marry me in exchange for his position? Then he wouldn't have any reason to keep me. But again, the words he said when we were inside the car. It could be his acting, but why would he act?
"Irene!!! Are you dead? I need to go too."
I slapped my face hard to relieve my brain from overthinking and enjoy the moments with them.
"Yes, I'm done."
_______
The clear water of The 'Alex Lake' and the refreshing wind made the end of my purple dress flutter like a butterfly wing.
Seeing me spacing out a lot, Arian and Naveah both stared at me with solemn look on their face. After all, a person can never hide their worries in front of someone close to them. It would be noticed within a blink.
"Irene, when will you be honest with yourself?"
"What's your point in saying that?" I awkwardly smiled and avoided their gaze.
"Just give him a chance and see for yo-" I cut her off saying-"I already sent him the papers. What's done is done. I have no intention of taking it back! He doesn't care about it either." I couldn't help but feel petty about decisions and speeches.
"What!"
"Can we not...Talk about him? Please?"
"But it's you who's not-" Naveah was about to speak something, but Arian held her hand and made her pause.
"Let her relax and.....just enjoy the view!" He blinked at me with a squeezed smile, pointing me to relax. I peeked behind from my right shoulder, feeling suffocated from all the thoughts and stood up to get some fresh air outside the restaurant. The chilly wind hit my warm skin as I squeezed my eyes shut to cool my mind, and it appeared to be working. "Seems like I'll be staying here a bit longer," I mumbled, feeling my hair getting swayed by the breeze.
