CHAPTER TWELVE

Jace eyes found mine again, he looked at me weird. “Are you sure you’re okay?” He said, his voice low.

I rolled my eyes and bit my lips to hid my smile. “Of course. Why wouldn’t I?”

He sighed and finished off his sandwich . “You’re taking this way too light. I was hoping for a clinging hug from you yelling at me for an hour like ‘Don’t leave me!’ or something like that. And I get to play the prince charming and cuddle you until tomorrow. Things like that. You know.” He sounded truly disappointed.

I reached for his hand above the breakfast bar and tangled it with mine. “It’s time for me to grow up Jace. I can’t cling to you for everything now, I have to be brave, like you. I want to be as strong as you.” I held his hand tighter in mine and stared at him squarely. Hoping he would get it and understand,

His eyes were pained but he didn’t do anything, only covering our intertwined hand with his other hand. “But you are more than enough for me.” He said quietly.
