A silver talent

It was like a firework display in Gwendolyn's eyes. Watching the ball show off different colours as each of the contestants touch it. She didn't know which was which but she could tell that colours like Orange and Yellow were of great importance and were hard to come by. Only a few mages had been able to purify their cores till it attain such colours.

The gasp and silent cheer from the Students watching the examination brought smiles or frowns to the faces of people taking the test. Those with colours from red upwards felt proud but those with Black colour felt humiliated and out of place.

To pass this test one just needed to have a Core, those who hadn't successfully developed their core were not eligible to move to the second round, so if you placed your hand on the ball and no colour was shoned out then it was a direct invitation to leave the examination ground.

Among the long line of crowd of people still waiting to take their test, Gwendolyn's attention was drawn to a particular young lady. She didn't look out of place neither did she look extraordinary but there was something around her that seemed different.

Silver hair and a sparkling ash eyes. She reminded Gwen of a certain cold man. They had that similar hair colour and eye colour, except Arvcan's eyes had a shade of blue. She watched the girl and every step that she took. Unknowing to her, Gwen was also being watched by the Dean who was seated next to her.

"She seems to have caught your attention" The woman whispered while taking a sip from the cup of tea in her hands.

Gwendolyn chuckled awkwardly and also brought her cup to her lips. It was awkward being caught gawking at a fellow lady. Would the Dean perhaps think she was bent?

"I find her kind of peculiar. There's an air around her that I can't quite place" With a laugh she explained.

Dean Myar nodded, there was no unbelief in her eyes, she not only believed Gwen's words but also reckoned with it.

"The Mana surrounding that girl is indeed peculiar, she is not an ordinary mage" She pointed out to Gwen.

"really?"

"you don't see it?" The Dean asked Gwen a little bit surprised. Her surprise only brought confusion to Gwen. How was she supposed to see something like Mana when she wasn't a mage?.

She shook her head.

The Dean collected her cup and perceived it then she dumped it at the side and handed Gwen her own cup of tea. Gwen was skeptical at first, still she collected it. The tea in the cup looked no different from what she had been drinking neither did it smell different, so why was she giving her?

Wait that wasn't even the point? How was the tea supposed to help her sea Mana?

She took a sip. A cold sensation ran throw her throat to her stomach then spread all through her body, this was no ordinary tea. The difference was truly in the taste. It took merely a few seconds for the tea to circulate and she began to see wisp of smoke moving through the air.

Everyone had a certain density around them. Some a little, some more than others and others in a quantity that formed like a shadow around them.

"Is this Mana?" She asked amusedly.

"Not directly. It's the energy formed from the accumulation of Mana." The Dean explained.

Gwendolyn looked at everyone around and she could see that the Deal was the strongest person in the whole ground. The Mage Elders were the next strongest people followed by the Academy Masters and the Full-fledged Mages present, then the students and the examinees. But there was really something different about that girl. She had the energy that could be neck tied with that of the Dean, it was surprising to see.

At the same time it was the girl's turn to test her Core colour. She placed her hand on the white ball and it shone a shade of black, the black moved from dark to solid and to light stage then changed to red.

Everyone watched the ball colour change from red till it got to Silver colour dark stage then it stopped.

Silver colour!

The girl was a Silver Talent!

The examination ground almost broke into an uproar but it was quieted down by the authorities.

From the Whispers Gwen could understand why the girls talent was shocking. There were not so many Mages who could attain the Silver colour. The girl was on par with some of the Mage Elders and was even higher than some of them who had only gotten to the last stage of Yellow Colour. The only person who was higher than the girl here was the Dean whose colour was at the light stage of Silver.

To have such talent at such a young age. It was surprising. There was no need to look any further, Gwen has found her Promising best admitting student.

The girl broke the record and no one attained any colour like hers till the end of the round. Because of her outstanding talent all eyes were on her. The next round was to test their control over their Mana, it's core accuracy and direction. There were already set limit to determine those that would pass the round.

One by one they came forward again to take the test. Only a dozen people ended up falling these round while the rest passed. The girl from beforehand had also done well in this test, it was nothing extraordinary like before still her result was surprised to see.

By the time the whole examination finished. The sun had began to set. The slightly darkened sky made the Magic show look even more glamorous than it already was.

By the end of the Examination, there were only about a hundred Mages left. These were the one who that the brains and skill to become a mage for the Magic Guild. Amongst the Hundred or so people, there was only a handful of Women. It was not surprising to see at all.

Now it was time for Gwendolyn to give her speech. She didn't need to think hard on what to say. After seeing what magic looked like, witnessing the expectations needed from a Mage and hearing from the Whispers what it felt like to be a Mages, all she did was say a few words of encouragement to revitalize the Admitting student. Her words were soothing and encouraging. Even when she didn't understand the world of magic her words had given them a lot of encouragement.

When she was asked to pick the promising best admitting student, Gwendolyn didn't think twice and immediately picked the girl from before.

"Aris" She called the girl's name.

While everyone clapped and cheered for her, there was no look of surprise or anxiousness on Aris face. If one didn't know they would think she had known beforehand.

The girl stepped forward to receive her gift. Gwendolyn didn't have anything special to give the girl but she had picked up a rare magic scroll from the kingdoms library. This was what she presented to the girl.
