Chapter Twenty One

  TEN YEARS LATER

"You had better make sure that you do my nails well." Munzi told Akila who was crouched at her feet painting her toe nails.

"Remind me again why I'm doing your nails." Akila responded looking at Munzi through her sunglasses. They were resting by the Olympic sized swimming pool in matching navy blue one piece swimming costumes.

"Because I'm pregnant with your child and I can't reach my toes since I'm at my last month." Munzi responded matter of factly. A camera dropped and rolled to the foot of Munzi's marble sun lounger.

"What the fuck?" Munzi asked startled and sat up with some struggle. She looked to her right where the camera had come from and instead of seeing the walls of her mansion, she got the shock of her life.

"I just knew it. Thinking about Adrian while pregnant would make me start hallucinating." Munzi said returning to take her previous position on the sun lounger.

"What do you mean that you are pregnant with her child?" Adrian asked confused as hell.

"Munzi I don't think you are hallucinating. He's really here." Akila said and Munzi's water broke.

"Adrian!?" She asked not caring for the amniotic fluid that was now flowing down her legs.

"Munzi? What do you mean you are pregnant with her child?" He asked again still not believing what he had heard and seen.

"I'm her surrogate. How are you here and why do you have a camera?" Munzi asked. Both of them totally shading Akila who had started feeling uneasy, from the broken water.

"I came here to surprise you and then heard you say that you were nine months pregnant with her child. How was I expected to react to that?" He explained with wide eyes.

"You thought that she and I were having a baby together? Do you realize how crazy that sounds?" Munzi asked amused. "Well we are having a baby together. Oh my God, we are having a baby together!"

"That's what I've been saying." Adrian repeated almost frustratedly.

"No. I meal like right now. My water broke. Where did Akila go?" Munzi yelled panicked. This isn't how it was supposed to happen. She still had three more days to her due date.

"Who the fuck is Akila?" Adrian asked pacing around. He jumped to her side when Munzi bent over holding her belly. The contractions had started.

"She's the mother of the child. She was right here doing my nails before you arrived." She explained sitting.

"Are you in pain, should we go to the hospital?" He asked more panicked than she was.

"It's just pain. I get worse pains when I get my stupid periods."

"Munzi, Adrian, you guys can quarrel over the contractions. We need to go to the hospital. I already called ahead." Akila said disrupting their staring contest.

"Help me up Adrian." Munzi said taking his hand in her smaller one.

"You are not walking in your condition. I won't allow it. And we have alot to talk about." He said picking her up.

"You have alot of time. Sometimes labor can go on for hours." Akila said picking up their phones and a robe for Munzi. She was already fully dressed.

"Let's go." Adrian said wondering why Munzi wasn't very heavy. Maybe she was one of those women who lost weight when they were pregnant. He shook the thought out of his head and followed Akila.

"Hey Vita." Akila greeted when they got to the Mercedes Benz they were taking to the hospital.

"Oh hey Vita." Munzi also greeted.

"Hey ladies. How far are your contractions?" He asked unlocking the vehicle and opening the doors for everyone.

"I don't know yet." Munzi replied.

"And who's your friend. He's hot." Vita added only then noting that Munzi was in the hands of a male that wasn't one of her stuff.

"This is Adrian. Adrian this is Vita. He's the baby's father." Munzi explained settling in to the backseat. Adrian hit his head on the roof while getting up in shock.

"How are you carrying both their kids. Vita seems to like men and Akila is a woman." Adrian stated after settling in the backseat next to Munzi. Akila sat on the other side of Munzi while Vita drove.

"They wanted a baby together. So they did in vitro fertilisation. They had been trying for a while to get pregnant without success."

"I can't carry a baby. I had to get a surrogate and who better than my best friend." Akila explained further when she saw the look on Adrian's face. If they weren't careful, they would be admitting two people to the hospital.

"We are here guys." Vita announced. They had only been driving for five minutes. But this was Moonlight paradise and Munzi made sure to live close to her pharmaceutical company which was just next to the hospital.

"Did I just see MUNZI BIOMEDICAL INDUSTRIES GROUP?" Adrian asked as he helped Munzi get out of the vehicle.

"Yeah. I own it." She announced proudly before two nurses helped her into a wheelchair and pushed her into a private delivery ward. Akila, Vita and Adrian filed in after the nurses.

"You own that big company?" Adrian asked. Today he had come with the intention of surprising Munzi but instead he was now the one shocked beyond words. They didn't even hear the nurses leaving and announcing that the doctor would be coming in a minute.

"Yeah. I realized that I was of better help to the mentally ill people at the lab than at the sanitarium. So I sold it and started the pharmaceutical." She explained and took a supine position so that the doctor could examine her.

"You had a mental hospital?" Adrian asked and glared at the woman doctor who had just seen the woman he loved naked.

"I started it after my music went international." Munzi explained and sat up so that the nurses could cut the swimming costume from her body and dress her in a hospital gown.

"You were a musician?" Adrian questioned and swallowed when he caught a glimpse of Munzi's breasts as she undressed. They were just as he remembered them and dreamed every night for ten years.

"I started in campus after you left and worked my way up. I even did a song for you." She announced lying back down.

"I will be back in ten minutes Munzi." The doctor said. "The machine on your right is going to tell us the intervals of your contractions." She finished and left.

"Thanks Cida." Munzi smiled at her doctor friend before turning to Adrian.

"Why do all the machines here have the MUNZI BIOMEDICAL INDUSTRIES GROUP logo?" Adrian asked still confused. This was all becoming too much.

"Because I made them duh." Munzi replied with an eye roll. She then looked at Adrian who looked pale. "Hey, Adrian look at me."

He did.

"Come sit here next to me." He did.

"Take in deep breaths. It's okay. Breathe with me." Munzi coaxed holding his right hand while rubbing his back. After so minutes, Adrian looked much better.

"Are you okay?" She asked him.

"Much better thank you." He answered smiling at her. "It's just that everything here today has been so much."

"I'm sorry but you know me. It would have been odd if something crazy wasn't happening in my life." Munzi said smiling through another contraction. It had been seven hours now and the contractions we're now only ten minutes apart. She was dilated nine centimeters and would start pushing soon.

"You're right. I missed you." He said.

"I missed you too. Dearly." She said and hugged him.

"Can I kiss you?" He asked and she smiled parting her lips. He took the opportunity and locked their lips. They poured everything into that kiss and as they did, the people who were outside that night could see that the moon started shining brighter. He kissed her senseless and squeezed her breast. That simple action alone brought her to her high and she orgasmed amidst contractions.

"Adrian. I'm about to give birth. We can't do this for a long long time." She whispered against his shoulder. His lips were busy on the valley between her breasts.

"Oh my God you two are like hormonal teenagers. There's about to be a baby in the room." Vita said from the door with his eyes covered. Munzi and Adrian quickly pulled away and he helped her cover her exposed chest.

"I'm not apologising Vita. She's glowing. Also you can look now." Adrian said smiling at Munzi who was laughing at it all. She was in pain and about to push an eight pound baby out of her fanny but this moment just made her forget the pain. She had always prayed that Adrian would be the one to hold her hand as she gave birth and now her prayers were being answered. An hour later, Joy Akita Mbesa was born to Vita Mbesa and Akila Riuki.
