CHAPTER 41

DAVE'S POV

"I saw Her, I got to see my Child." Dave says as he holds Mary excitedly, telling her the news.

"What are you talking about?" Mary asks him, as she joins him excitedly.

"Magedelene, that's her name." Dave keeps on talking as he's still so excited.

"My Daughter, She's here in Lagos, She's going to the same college as our Son." He explains to Mary, who made him sat down, so he could give her a better picture.

"I don't believe this." Mary looks so surprise.

"I swear, I didn't believe it, Until I saw her with my eyes." Dave takes her hands as goes on talking.

"How did you know she's the one." Mary ask, Not quite believing it yet.

"Okay, After Mr Spark told me about Philip's mother death,

Mr Spark also confessed that my Daughter was schooling there.

Philip was shattered by the news,

I had to drive him to School

And there she was." Dave speaking like the scene was happening right in front of Him.

"I don't get, Why didn't Mr Spark, Just tell us, that the girl was within our reach." Mary asks in confusion.

" Honey, It against his work ethics, and if He had told us about Her recent whereabout, don't you think that I would have reached out to her myself." Dave holds her hands as he explains.

"Ok, Now I see the point."Mary finally agreeing with him.

Dave looks at Mary all smiling as he continues "When he gave me a picture of her, I knew instantly,

Then when I saw her, she really looks like her Birth Mother, She's growing into Her."

Mary looks at him as she smiles,

" I am happy you're happy, and most especially that We've found Her, I can't wait for I and Philip to meet her also." She tells him.

Dave face goes from all smiley to hard faced

" What is wrong?" Mary ask as she notices

"We have heard from the Adopted Mom, Steph." Dave tells her.

Mary goes silent, as she moves closer to him and hugs him lightly

" Let's just hope she comes around." She says in his ears.

"This Steph, She's a really good lawyer,I saw here in court with my own eyes.

She has more grounds than us in this case ." Dave lamenting as he lets go off Mary.

Dave heads hung low as he speaks

"I have spoken to her, I even said we weren't taking the Girl away, I just want to get to know my Daughter."

Mary pats him on the back as she speaks, "Let's give her space right now, All these might be too much for her right now."

Dave nods his head "But for how long?" Dave laments again.

"We've waited for so long, We can do it again." Mary reminds him gently.

Dave looks up and turns his face towards her as he begins to smile, while Mary looks at him Suspiciously,

She's known him long enough to know this smile wasn't genuine

"What if." Dave stammers as he begins to speaks

"What if, We make Philip become friends with her, So as to give us access to Her." He lets out his thoughts.

Mary looks at him in Disgust "Can you listen to yourself right now?" Mary stands up in disbelief.

Dave looks up at her in shock "I don't understand, Did I say something wrong?"

"You're just not making any sense right now." Mary shot at him.

Dave looks surprised, He didn't know where he must have gone wrong.

"Since you came back from Abuja, All you've talked was about the Girl,

I took it because I understand you, because I am your Wife.

Now you want to involve our Son into your dirty scheme." Mary blast out angrily.

Dave hangs his head down again but this time it is in shame,

Mary looks at Dave again, and figured out She might have overreacted.

"Honey, Please we've lost one child, let's not lose another child,

When you came out with this, This Family almost shattered, I don't want it to happen again." She sits back and speaks to him gently.

Dave raises his head and looks at her with so much guilt in his eyes.

"I totally understand you, But you're allowing this case to eat you up, Our son just lost his Birth Mom, let's try and be there for him." Mary goes on gently.

"I am sorry, Honey, I just don't know." Mary cuts him short

"It's okay." She tell him, as She hugs him as he lets it all out.

" We will leave him out of this, and find a way to bring Steph to consider us." Dave tells her as he relaxes into the couch.

Mary goes towards the fridge as she gets him water to drink.

He gulps the drink down his throat , Mary stares at him smiling

"When you broke the news to Philip, How did he take it?" Mary ask him.

"He didn't take the news well, He looked so devastated, He kept on blaming himself." Dave couldn't continue.

Mary places her hands gently on him "You started blaming yourself also, right?." Mary asks.

"I wished I had told him the truth sooner, You know, it's all my fault." Dave puts his hand on his head

"I caused all this, It's all my fault." Dave continues to self blame.

"Honey, at some point, You've got to stop hurting yourself so much, We all made mistakes, Philip knows that and am sure he isn't mad at you." Mary tells him.

"Maybe you don't know this ,But let me let you know, That you're a good Person, a good Man and a good Father.

Yes you have shortcomings, We all do."

Dave looks at her, as he pulls her into a hug once again "Thank you so much, For calling out my bullshit

And this man, I am today, You created this Man right Infront of you, I had nothing to do with it ."

Mary was about to disagree with him,Dave moves towards her lips as he kisses her deeply,

Mary shed a tear, as she returns the kiss warmly.
