Chapter 118 - Riser: I Got Faceslapped In Next Second!
"One slash?"
Riser sneered at first, but then he got pissed off.
Judging by Mahiro's demeanor, he wasn't joking. Coldly, he said, "You'll regret your actions today."
"And I already know some of your tricks..." Before his peerage got wiped out, they did their best to relay info about Mahiro to Riser.
"It's all irrelevant," Mahiro said calmly. "Do your best to withstand my next attack."
"Otherwise, you might actually die."
As soon as he finished speaking, Mahiro vanished.
Riser's eyes widened. That weird movement and insane speed—that's what Yubelluna had warned him about before she got taken down.
"Don't think you can get close to me!" Riser shouted. Suddenly, a sea of fire erupted around him, intense flames encircling his body. The scorching heat was enough to incinerate anyone who dared approach.
The flames spread out, engulfing the entire playground. In no time, the objects around started to warp under the extreme heat.
"Is that all you've got?" Mahiro's voice echoed.
In Riser's line of sight, a figure emerged from the sea of fire, completely unharmed.
The flames seemed to retreat from him, disappearing as they got close. It was a bizarre sight; no matter how fiercely Riser burned, the flames couldn't touch Mahiro.
"That damn Magic Eye!" Riser was startled, recalling Yubelluna's warning: Beware of that magic eyes.
"Shit!" But it was already too late to react. Mahiro activated his Mystic Eye of Distortion, ignoring Riser's attack entirely.
He dashed through the fire at lightning speed, appearing right in front of Riser.
Although Riser had immortality, he sucked at close combat. After all, he thought melee combat was beneath him. Grand battles using demonic power were more his style.
So Riser's immortality was more about tanking hits and wearing down his opponents. As Mahiro closed in, Riser didn't even bother to dodge.
He planned to take Mahiro's attack head-on and then regenerate. When his opponent thought they'd won, he'd strike back. That was Riser's usual tactic.
But as Mahiro approached, Riser felt a strange unease—a cold, instinctive fear. The blade in Mahiro's hand glowed faintly, and his eyes showed no emotion.
Without any resistance, the blade sliced through Riser's body, cutting from shoulder to waist, nearly splitting him in half.
Though not completely severed, the damage was severe.
"Ah—!"
Riser let out a horrific scream.
It hurt like hell! The pain from the wound shot through his entire body like lightning.
It was excruciating—a pain that cut to the bone.
Even his soul seemed to tremble. The agony nearly knocked him out.
"What the fuck is this?" Riser's mind raced through the searing pain.
How could Mahiro hurt him? Why weren't his wounds healing?
In the student council office, everyone stared at the scene in shock.
"Riser Phenex got defeated in one blow. This guy's strength is terrifying," Saji muttered.
Could this really be the power of a human? Before becoming a Devil, he was human too and had a Sacred Gear, making him pretty strong—a genius even.
But now, watching Mahiro, he realized what true power was.
"For a moment, there was light on the blade. Seems Mahiro also used the power of light,"
Sona observed keenly, her sharp eyes catching the use of light magic. "No wonder Riser got messed up in one strike."
Sona looked at the screen and continued, "But what puzzles me is why, with Riser's immortality, he hasn't started healing yet."
The Phenex clan members had suffered way worse injuries before. Even when half their body was destroyed, they'd recover almost instantly.
Yet now, with Riser nearly split in two, there's no sign of recovery.
Many others shared the same confusion.
"Rias, is this the secret you've been keeping? I have to admit, it's surprising," Sona turned to Rias.
"Maybe," Rias replied with a dry smile. She'd been keeping Mahiro's abilities under wraps.
She hadn't expected Mahiro to cut down Riser without even using his boosted gear. And the power of light? Even Rias didn't know Mahiro had mastered that.
"Rias, Mahiro can use the power of light? As far as I know, he has no ties to Angels or Fallen Angels," Sona asked, curious.
"Whether it's Riser's injury or the power of light, it's likely related to Mahiro's Magic Eye, which can absorb and transform any power," Rias explained.
Since Mahiro had already shown his Magic Eye, there was no need to hide it anymore. After all, after this battle, it wouldn't be hard to figure out.
During training, Mahiro had practiced with Akeno and used his Magic Eye to master demonic lightning.
She remembered that not long ago, Mahiro had also taken down a few Fallen Angels.
Fighting them naturally involved dealing with their light-based attacks.
The light power Mahiro displayed now must have been gained during those fights. Rias pieced it together in her mind.
Hearing this, Sona nodded, accepting the reasonable explanation to prevent suspicion from Devils in the Underworld.
After all, a human wielding light-based powers from the Angel faction would raise eyebrows.
"Looks like the outcome of this battle is clear," Sona remarked, looking at the screen.
