Are You Questioning Me!?

Chapter 65 - Are You Questioning Me!?

After deciding to enter 'Highschool of the Dead,' Mahiro took a day off from school and informed Asia of his plans.

"Mahiro-kun! Where are you going?"

"I'll be going to another town to train!"

"Don't worry, I'll be back by tomorrow."

Although Mahiro said that, Asia was still scared.

It was her first time living with someone she loves, and seperating for even one day was enough to make the girl sad.

"Asia.."

Mahiro sighed and hugged Asia, allowing her to lean on his shoulders.

Since they were in a relationship, she would likely worry if he suddenly disappeared for a day, which would be troublesome to explain.

Therefore, creating another reason for his disappearance seemed like the right choice.

Once everything was prepared, Mahiro found a secluded place, opened the system panel, and prepared to enter the Dimensional World 'Highschool of the Dead.'

[Do you want to enter the Dimensional World 'Highschool of the Dead'?]

The system prompted.

"Enter!"

As Mahiro spoke, he vanished from the spot.

His vision turned hazy, and when he opened his eyes, he found himself standing in a high place with the wind whistling in his ears.

[You have entered the Dimensional World 'Highschool of the Dead.']

[Available quests: None]

[Quest generation...]

[The quest has been generated. Please check it yourself.]

Several system prompts made Mahiro temporarily ignore his surroundings and focus on the system panel.

Main Quest 1: Zombie Hunter.

Mission Requirements: Kill 100 zombies.

Mission Difficulty: Easy.

Mission Rewards: Get 100 points, and you can get 1 point for every zombie killed (up to 100 points).

Main Quest 2: Zombie Killer.

Mission Difficulty: Easy.

Mission Rewards: Get 1,000 points, and you can get 1 point for every zombie killed (up to 1,000 points).

Main Quest 3: Zombie Exterminator.

Mission Requirements: Kill 10,000 zombies.

Mission Difficulty: Normal.

Mission Rewards: Get 10,000 points, get 1 point for every zombie (up to 10,000 points), get a chance to draw a lottery, and get the title—Zombie Exterminator.

Main Quest 4: The Savior in Everyone's Eyes.

Mission Requirements: Rescue at least fifty survivors in the form of protection and let them survive for at least three days.

Mission Difficulty: Normal.

Mission Reward: Get a chance to draw a lottery, get the magic power booster card, and get 50 points for each survivor you save (up to 2,500 points).

Looking at the quest rewards, Mahiro realized the system's rewards were incredibly generous, especially considering that 'Highschool of the Dead' was an apocalyptic world.

He couldn't help but wonder how much richer the rewards would be in a higher world.

However, Mahiro also worried about the low chance of the Dimensional World being refreshed and the difficulty of accessing higher worlds.

Fortunately, after completing this Dimensional World, his points should be sufficient for dozens of refreshes.

"The fourth main quest is interesting. Is the system trying to challenge me?"

Mahiro wondered, looking at Main Quest 4: The Savior in Everyone's Eyes.

The first three quests were straightforward and suited Mahiro's preferences, as they only required him to kill without restrictions.

The 'Zombie Exterminator' quest involved killing 10,000 zombies, it would just take a little more time.

However, the fourth main quest involved saving people!

Alas, For Mahiro, saving people wasn't difficult, but he wondered what the system meant by 'in the form of protection.'

[Do not use extreme means. You need to let the rescued agree!]

Mahiro felt powerless and realized that the quests were designed perfectly.

He had considered knocking 50 people unconscious, throwing them into a warehouse, and guarding them for three days.

However, the system seemed to want him to actively involve these people in the apocalyptic scenario.

Mahiro knew that saving people in this world could be a thankless job, and there might even be some ungrateful individuals.

However, the rewards—a chance to draw a lottery, a magic power booster card, and 2,500 points—were too significant to ignore.

"I'll just deal with it directly!"

Mahiro pondered and decided not to give up the quest.

While saving people was possible, he wouldn't be lenient if anything unpleasant occurred.

Outside, a loud noise brought his thoughts back to the present.

The wind whistled in Mahiro's ears, accompanied by screams and roars.

Mahiro realized he had been teleported to a roof, standing on a half-floor covered area with a broad view.

Glancing down, he saw that the situation was already in chaos.

"Is this Fujimi Academy?"

Standing on the rooftop and facing the school gate.

Mahiro observed swaying figures in the open space between the gate and the school building.

They were human beings who had turned into zombies, wearing the familiar school uniforms of Fujimi Academy.

"Is this what you mean by story locations?"

Mahiro recalled that the system mentioned that the arrival location was randomly determined, with a high probability of appearing in a story location.

"If I clear out the zombies in Fujimi Academy, I should be able to complete the first two quests!"

Mahiro chuckled as the Sword of Eternal Flames appeared in his hand.

Fujimi Academy, being a private high school, had many students, faculty, and staff.

While the total population wouldn't reach tens of thousands, there were definitely thousands, which was sufficient for Mahiro to complete the first two quests.

Moreover, there should be many living people in the school who could help with the fourth quest.

Compared to adults in society, the chances of encountering ungrateful individuals among the students might be lower.

A girl's scream suddenly sounded as Mahiro planned to jump down from the roof to confront the wandering zombies below.

Mahiro paused and glanced at the rooftop beneath his feet.

His attention had been focused downstairs, so he hadn't immediately noticed any living people on the roof.

There were two boys and one girl, all teenagers.

"Stop it, stop it!!" the girl screamed hoarsely in desperation.

In front of the girl, one of the boys wielded a baseball bat and rushed towards the other, ready to swing the bat at his head.

Mahiro quickly recognized the people below: Komuro Takashi, Miyamoto Rei, and her hapless soon-to-be-dead boyfriend, Hisashi Igou.

"Leave him alone!"

Mahiro suddenly shouted to the group below.

But it seemed it was too late.

Takashi Komuro roared and rushed in front of Hisashi Igou in grief and anger, waving the baseball bat in his hand and smashing it hard on Hisashi's head.

With a sickening crunch, Hisashi's trembling body crumpled to the rooftop, hitting the ground with a dull thud.

He lay there, completely still, not a single twitch or movement, life completely drained from him.

"Hisashi!"

Seeing this scene, Rei Miyamoto cried out hysterically, stumbled to Hisashi's side, knelt, and looked at him, who had fallen to the ground and had no breath.

"Wake up."

Rei's eyes were dull.

She stretched out her hand and pushed Hisashi gently, the expression on her face was bit weird, like crying and laughing at the same time.

She didn't believe that Hisashi was dead.

Mahiro jumped lightly and landed in front of them.

"Who are you?"

Compared with the desperate Rei, Takashi was much calmer, holding a bloody baseball bat and cautiously watching Mahiro, who had suddenly appeared.

"He's dead. There's no help."

Mahiro ignored Takashi, walked to Hisashi's side, squatted down to check, shook his head, and said regretfully.

Hisashi had died a bit miserably.

Except for the wound from being bitten by the zombie, Takashi's blow had just cracked his skull, knocking out all the brain matter on the floor.

Rei glanced at Mahiro with a sullen face, unaware she had heard him.

"If he wasn't dead, maybe I could have saved him."

Mahiro stared at Hisashi's corpse and said, after thinking for a while.

Basic Healing and Basic Purification - these two skills had not been used since they were obtained.

Mahiro also wanted to see if the two abilities could remove the zombie virus.

After all, Hisashi had not completely turned into a zombie.

Maybe it could be done.

"It's you!"

These words seemed to set a dynamite fuse on fire, and Rei's lifeless eyes suddenly focused.

She turned her head suddenly to look at Takashi.

"You killed Hisashi."

Rei vented hysterically at Takashi, her eyes filled with hatred.

"If it weren't for you, he would never have died. He could have been rescued!"

Takashi's head was spinning, his hand holding the baseball bat trembled slightly, and he looked at Rei in disbelief.

He didn't expect his ex-girlfriend to look at him with such an expression.

The heartache was so bad he couldn't breathe.

However, he couldn't be angry with Rei, so he naturally turned his frustration towards Mahiro.

This strange guy had appeared out of nowhere.

It was because of his words that Rei hated him.

"Rei, do you believe what he said?"

Takashi endured the anger in his heart and said to Rei in a low voice.

"A guy who came out of nowhere just said he could save Hisashi, and you believe what he said! Am I so untrustworthy?"

Hearing this, Rei's expression wavered, and she looked at Takashi with doubtful eyes.

"Looking at his clothes, he shouldn't be a student at our school."

"Hisashi was bitten by one of those things. You've seen movies. After being bitten by this kind of creature, you become one of them, and there is no way to recover."

"Do you think he can save Hisashi?"

Rei was slightly stunned by Takashi's voice, and her eyes became shaken when she looked at him.

Zombie movies naturally existed in this world.

After being bitten by a zombie, irreversible changes occur, turning the victim into a bloodthirsty zombie, no longer human.

Even scientists had no way to restore zombies to normal people.

And he was just a student.

Was there a way for him to solve a problem that scientists couldn't figure out?

Mahiro glanced at Takashi.

He was not particularly concerned about the relationship between Takashi and Rei, nor was he very interested in Rei, but now...

Mahiro sneered in his heart.

'Don't blame me.'

"At least I would have tried to save him instead of killing him in such an extreme way."

Mahiro's flippant sentence rendered all of Takashi's efforts in vain.

"You!"

Takashi's words were caught in his throat, especially when he saw Rei's gaze toward him become even more terrifying.

He even felt dizzy, as if the world was spinning.

"Did you have a grudge against this man?"

Mahiro spoke again.

"What nonsense! He was my best friend."

Takashi scolded him angrily.

Although Hisashi had cuckolded him, he was still a best friend in his heart.

"So he was your best friend. Sorry, maybe I made a mistake."

Mahiro apologized insincerely, looked at the dead Hisashi, and then turned to Rei.

"Although the hardness of the human skull is weaker than that of oak, it is still tough."

"If someone wants to break a skull, it is difficult for people without special training to do it."

"Even with a weapon like a baseball bat, it is difficult for ordinary people to break the skull, but..."

Mahiro looked at Hisashi, who was lying dead and hesitated...

Mahiro's words did not continue, but Rei already understood.

The hateful blow had been so forceful and ruthless.

"Yeah, I know. I know."

Rei suddenly spoke up with a tragic smile on her face.

"You must have hated Hisashi."

Rei smiled bitterly and looked at Takashi.

"Because I was with him, you hated him. That's why you killed him."

Takashi felt like his whole body was about to split apart.

"It turns out there was such a complicated relationship between you. No wonder."

Mahiro touched his chin and said thoughtfully.

A love triangle.

"Shut up!"

Takashi was going crazy, his body shaking with anger.

"You said you could save him? Why would you save him just with your mouth?"

"There are no tools, medical equipment, or medicine here. How can you save him? He was bitten by that kind of thing."

Takashi gritted his teeth and glared at Mahiro angrily, wishing to take a bite out of him.

"You were on the rooftop just now. You couldn't have known we were here, right?"

"Since you wanted to save him, why didn't you stop me sooner instead of accusing me now?"

His thoughts were racing.

Mahiro couldn't help but look at Takashi.

"Are you questioning me?"

Mahiro sneered and looked at Takashi coldly.

In fact, he didn't like this guy much.

Compared to protagonist in other animes, Takashi doesn't seem to have any special abilities besides his leadership capabilities.

Even the dead Hisashi was a hundred times better than him.

Hisashi was also unlucky.

He had the potential to be a protagonist, but he didn't have the protagonist's luck.

Mahiro still felt pity for him.
