Chapter 5
(Third person POV)
Behind the gym, the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the concrete, the scent of fresh grass lingering in the air. Yuto stood, leaning casually against the cold brick wall . His hands rested calmly in his pockets, his sharp yet gentle features giving him an effortless charm. His dark hair caught the light just so, making him seem almost ethereal in the fading sunlight.
In front of him, a girl stood nervously, her voice barely above a whisper. Her cheeks were flushed, and her hands twisted the hem of her skirt as she gathered the courage to confess. "Yuto-kun... I like you. I've liked you for a long time."
There was a brief pause as her words hung in the air, fragile and hopeful.
Yuto, calm as ever, didn't flinch. He looked down at her with a soft, understanding expression, his eyes kind but distant. He raised a hand to scratch his face gently, "I'm sorry," he said, his voice steady but gentle, "but I can't return those feelings."
The girl's face fell, but Yuto didn't waver. His rejection wasn't cruel, just honest. He didn't rush or fumble. After a brief silence, he offered a small smile, almost apologetic, before walking away, leaving her behind as the last rays of sunlight flickered through the trees.
Damn, it feels really awkward to be confessed to by a child a third of my age. It's the third time this month. Why are the kids here so bold? Yuto thought as he goes home.
It had been a month since he quit boxing; he felt he had learned what he could after training for a total of seven months. Now he was experimenting with the magical abilities he had developed .
Suddenly, a man's voice broke through his musings. "Hey, kid!" Yuto turned to see a middle-aged man calling him, his expression one of boredom as if he is a office worker doing his job. "Are you Tsuki Yuto from class 4e?"
In response, Yuto said, "Yes, yes I am. How can I help you?"
Then suddenly, the man lifted his hand and said, "Paralyze." A magic circle appeared from his hand, and a green fog shot toward Yuto at incredible speed. Yuto's heart raced as he narrowly dodged the fog that erupted from the mage's outstretched hand. The air crackled with residual magic as he felt the green fog brush past him.
With a quick pivot, Yuto closed the distance, aiming a powerful right hook at the mage's jaw. But the mage was quick, his reflexes honed by years of practice. He sidestepped, the punch barely grazing his cheek, and retaliated with a flick of his wrist. Another magic circle formed, shimmering with an ominous light.
Yuto barely had time to react as tendrils of energy shot toward him, aiming to ensnare him. He ducked low, rolling to the side, landing back on his feet, ready to strike again. The mage frowned as if he found something troublesome.
"Don't make this difficult for me, kid. I don't want to accidentally kill you," the mage said, sounding annoyed.
Yuto frowned, keeping his hand ready while maintaining his gaze on the mage. "Who are you? And why are you attacking me?" he asked, his voice calm and composed.
"Judging from you're reaction you already knew about the supernatural side of this world, huh? Who are you? In the report, there were no signs of this."
"I asked you, why are you attacking me?" Yuto pressed again, still keeping his eyes on the mage.
"Fuck! It was supposed to be just a simple simple mission, kidnap a few kid . How did this change to this? Did I offend some clan or someone powerful because of this ? Will they come after me?" The mage began muttering to himself, then suddenly, as if he came to a decision, signed as if he came to an decision "Since I already attacked, I should finish it "
Upon hearing the word of "finish it," Yuto instantly sprinted forward, faking a left jab, then following up with a swift right hook that connected solidly with the mage's ribs. The impact sent the man stumbling back, momentarily stunned. Yuto seized the opportunity, launching a powerful combination, each blow precise and calculated.
But the mage, regaining his senses, jumped backward and began summoning another magic circle, this one more intricate and menacing. "DIE!"
Green energy coalesced into a sphere, crackling with raw power. Upon seeing it, Yuto's instincts kicked in as he recognized the danger. Barely managing to dodge to the left, he unleashed a powerful uppercut, sending the mage staggering further away.
As the mage struggled to regain his footing, Yuto gathered his mana, focusing on the physical magic enchantment he had kept hidden. It was his trump card to finish this fight.
In a sudden burst, he activated the enchantment, feeling a rush of power course through him. With renewed vigor, he charged at the mage, his punches now enhanced by a magical aura that glowed faintly around his fists. Each strike landed with a resounding impact, pushing the mage to his limits.
With one final, mighty blow, Yuto landed a devastating punch that sent the mage sprawling to the ground, gasping for breath.
But before he could question his opponent , the atmosphere shifted. Shadows flickered at the edge of his vision. Suddenly, two men materialized out of the darkness, their expressions cold and neutral. Before Yuto could react, they lunged at him with a speed that took him by surprise.
One of them grabbed cast a spell that momentarily stunned him , while the other struck with a swift kick to his midsection, knocking the wind out of him. Yuto stumbled back, gasping for air as the world spun around him.
"Are you with him?" he managed to gasp after taking a deep breath.
"Yes" one of the newcomers said, coldly.
Yuto's heart raced as he realized he couldn't win. He began thinking of a way to escape. While pondering, he thought, "If I can't escape, then I will take one of them down with me."
(A few minutes later)
Three mages stood, gasping for breath, their bodies shells of their previous selves. Their faces were bruised, clothes tattered, and one of them cradled a broken arm, wincing with each shallow inhale.
Beside them lay a child, his condition even more dire. One arm was nearly severed, the other broken, and his skin was a patchwork of cuts and bruises, a testament to the brutality he had endured.
One of the mages, taking a deep breath, said, "What a monster."
Finally, as if recovered enough, the mage who first attacked Yuto approached him, preparing to finish him off.
One of the others noticed this and said, "What are you doing?"
"I am going to finish him off."
"Stop! Did you forget our objective? Why are you trying to kill him?"
'He knew about supernatural side , we should kill him to avoid trouble'
"There are plenty of ordinary people who know about the supernatural every day. I bet he or one of his family knows it and said it to him."
"How are you so sure? What if he is the son of a powerful mage or a member of a clan? With his power and age, whoever he is connected to should be strong."
"Don't worry, because one of the elders who is in charge of recruitment personally investigated C and higher-rank potential persons because of the incident from six months ago."
"Huh? Then why are we here? Shouldn't higher-ranking personnel be in charge of this?"
"I don't know. This morning, orders came from above stating that we will be taking our targets and relocating out of Japan."
"Because of this sudden order, we don't have enough manpower. So they sent us."
"Still, we should report this to the higher-ups."
"Yeah, we will report this."
"Let's go. Someone might come here."
"Alright."
"Okay."
(30 minutes later—at home)
Yuki stood in the warm kitchen, the aroma of simmering broth and freshly cooked rice filling the air. She glanced at the clock, her heart fluttering with anticipation. Yuto would be home soon, and she wanted everything to be perfect.
She had prepared his favorite dish—miso soup, rich with tender vegetables and delicate tofu. As she stirred the pot, memories of their shared laughter around the table filled her mind from the last time they had eaten like this.
Yuki set the table, arranging the bowls and chopsticks just the way Yuto liked them. A smile spread across her face as she imagined his reaction , his eyes lighting up in delight at the sight of his favorite meal.
After preparing everything, she sat at the table waiting for him.
