Birgir stood confidently with his Queen, Hitomi, envisioning the accolades he would receive after defeating Riser Phoenix. His reputation in the underworld would soar, and the Oriax name would be revered.
"Yes, darling," Hitomi purred, echoing his thoughts. But their moment of smug anticipation was shattered by the sound of agonized screams echoing from the forest.
Birgir's eyes widened with excitement. "Listen, Hitomi! That must be Riser crying out in defeat!"
But as the screams continued, more voices joined in—a cacophony of pain and desperation.
Hitomi's expression turned serious. "Darling, I think those screams are coming from our side."
The realization hit Birgir like a cold wave, and his confidence began to waver. Sweat beaded on his forehead as the sounds of battle grew more intense, more desperate.
Hitomi, sensing his unease, suggested, "Perhaps it would be wise to provide backup, darling, to ensure nothing unforeseen occurs."
Birgir nodded quickly, eager to regain control of the situation. "You're right, Hitomi. Lead the way."
Together, they moved swiftly through the forest, their path guided by the sounds of the ongoing battle. Birgir flew just above the ground, while Hitomi, a skilled swordswoman, led the way with practiced grace.
As they reached the site of the conflict, Birgir's heart sank. His peerage lay defeated across the battlefield, their bodies strewn about like discarded toys. The once-proud members of House Oriax were now broken, groaning in pain or unconscious. Only Arrow remained standing, engaged in a desperate fight with Riser Phoenix.
Arrow's Sacred Gear, Staring Blue, manifested as a glowing bow of light energy. She fired arrow after arrow, each one imbued with lethal energy, capable of tearing through a devil's defenses. The arrows flew with deadly precision, curving and twisting through the air to strike their target. But Riser, surrounded by a shimmering aura of pressurized heat, seemed to be untouchable. The arrows disintegrated as they approached, unable to penetrate the blazing barrier.
Riser, his expression calm and almost amused, spoke to Arrow as they fought. "Your abilities are impressive, Arrow. But you're still outmatched."
As Riser turned his gaze toward Birgir and Hitomi, his smile widened. "And here I thought you'd hole yourself up after getting cold feet, Birgir."
Birgir's pride flared, and he shouted back, "I'll show you the might of House Oriax, RISER!!" He turned to Arrow, "Get behind us! We'll take him down together."
Arrow quickly moved behind Hitomi, who stood ready with her sword, prepared to block Riser's advance. Birgir began chanting a powerful spell, his hands glowing with the energy of the sun and moon, ready to unleash devastating celestial magic.
Riser watched them with a mixture of amusement and pity. "Oh, look—a swordswoman, a long-range attacker, and a magician. If only you'd come at me with your full peerage, you might've troubled me. But today, Birgir, you will lose."
"RISER!!" Birgir screamed, releasing his spell. Beams of solar and lunar energy shot toward Riser with destructive force. At the same time, Arrow fired another barrage of her enchanted arrows, each one homing in on Riser with deadly intent. Hitomi stood firm, ready to intercept Riser if he attempted to close the distance.
Riser's eyes gleamed with determination as he whispered to himself, "Let's do this."
In a flash, Riser moved with incredible speed, his body now glowing with an intense heat that radiated outward, distorting the air around him. The beams of energy and arrows closed in on him, but Riser didn't dodge. Instead, he swatted them away with his bare hands, the pressurized heat around him amplifying his physical strength and burning through the projectiles before they could reach him.
Hitomi charged at Riser, her sword slashing through the air with precision. She aimed for his vital points, hoping to cut him down quickly. But Riser's movements were fluid, almost effortless. He sidestepped her attacks with ease, deflecting her blade with his forearm. The heat radiating from his body made it impossible for Hitomi to get close without burning herself.
Birgir, seeing his Queen struggling, intensified his magical assault, sending wave after wave of celestial energy at Riser. The forest lit up with blinding flashes of light, but Riser moved like a phantom, weaving through the attacks with inhuman agility.
In a moment of pure speed, Riser closed the gap between himself and Birgir. Before Birgir could react, Riser delivered a powerful punch to his gut, the heat amplifying the force behind the blow. Birgir was sent flying backward, crashing into a tree with a gasp of pain.
Arrow, realizing the dire situation, fired her strongest arrow yet, hoping to catch Riser off guard. But Riser, already anticipating the attack, spun around and caught the arrow with his bare hand, the light dissipating in his grip.
"You're strong, Arrow," Riser admitted, "but not strong enough."
With a swift motion, Riser appeared in front of Arrow, delivering a precise kick to her side. The impact sent her skidding across the ground, her Sacred Gear flickering out as she struggled to breathe.
Hitomi, seeing her allies fall, launched a desperate final attack, slashing at Riser with all her might. But Riser blocked her strike effortlessly and countered with a palm strike to her chest, the heat surging through his hand and sending her crashing to the ground.
Birgir, barely able to stand, watched in horror as Riser calmly walked toward him. "No... this can't be happening," Birgir muttered, his voice trembling with fear.
Riser stopped just inches away from him, looking down at Birgir with cold, determined eyes. "You underestimated me, Birgir. And now you'll pay the price."
With one final, devastating punch, Riser sent Birgir sprawling to the ground, unconscious and defeated. The battle was over.
Riser stood amidst the fallen members of Birgir's peerage, his body still glowing with the residual heat of his power. He took a deep breath, the intensity of the fight finally subsiding. He had won, and in doing so, had proven that he was not a devil to be trifled with.
