Chapter 29

Robert embraced Morgan when he reached the twins, and then he turned to Megan. “And you’re Megan,” he said, taking both her hands in his. “As beautiful as your mother.” He then gave her a hug.

Miriam stepped forward and hugged both Morgan and Megan. “I hope you had a good trip.”

It felt surreal to Morgan—being greeted by these strangers in so familiar a fashion, as if their being there had been planned for and expected. As he stood there, trying to get his bearings, he was struck by how much his sister and Miriam resembled each other.

“Miriam,” Robert said, “put the closed sign on the shop door. Morgan and Megan need to freshen up after their journey, and then they’ll want the answers to the questions they’ve come to ask.”

Robert then led them all through the door at the back of the shop. They entered a large room: obviously the living quarters for someone—probably Robert, possibly Miriam, and…James?
