I struggled against his pheromones but stood as tall as I could, "what do you know about me? Who are you to tell me what my kids and I will do?!"
They looked to each other and then back to me, "You're an Omega, Jayden's destined partner, and birth parent of these children."
"I was born and raised as an Alpha," I stated. "I didn't become an Omega until high school." I gestured to the twins, "what if one of my children ends up the same? What would you do?"
The woman smirked slightly, "Obviously, they would not be part of our family. We are making a large exception for you to be included in our family."
I sighed, "clearly Jayden got his horrible thought process from both of you." They both increased their pheromones, but it wouldn't stop me now. "My children are perfect, regardless of their gender! You should be ashamed of your narrow mindedness!" I fought not to choke as my emotions bubbled up to the surface. "They are so much more than you would ever deserve in your lives or your family line."
"Will..." Adeline whispered, and I frowned towards her, "I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have brought you here, especially with the kids." She turned and glared at her parents, "I'm ashamed to be a child of such selfish people. I haven't known Will for long, but he is an amazing, brave, and resilient person. He's an even better parent! He is better than this family has become!"
"It's not like you have anywhere else to go." The woman mocked, and my entire body trembled.
"I am a fool for trying to get involved with you. You're worse than Jayden! Don't bother contacting me again. My answer to anything you want or need is no." I quickly got up and grabbed the twins' hands. Adeline got Addie and rushed to follow me out the door.
We hurried the kids into the car as I saw the man following close behind. I mustered up all the courage I could and stormed over to him. "Don't come near my family again." I rushed back to the car and saw Adeline had gone to her car. I gestured for her to follow me and raced out of the neighborhood. I smiled towards the kids as the twins looked with worry.
"Are those people really our grandparents."
I sighed deeply, "by blood, yes. But by love, no. They are not good people, and I'm sorry you two had to witness that. I shouldn't have trusted them."
"Those people were so mean!" Ashley hissed as she stomped her feet in the air. "How could they say such mean things!"
I took another deep breath, "Let's try to put this behind us for a little bit and talk about it once we have calmed down. Would that be okay with you two? If you want to continue talking, we can." They both shook their heads slightly. "How about we go to the park? I think it's close. Then I can talk with your aunt for a bit while you play."
"Okay!" They both cheered as a slight smile came to their faces. When we reached the park, they raced over to play as I got Addie out of the car, and Adeline appeared at my side.
"Do you have some time to talk?" I asked as she nodded before helping close the car door and following me to a bench near the play area.
"Oh god, Will, I'm so so sorry." She whispered, "I never thought that would happen."
I sighed deeply, "I didn't expect for it to go perfect... but if I knew what they were planning to say, I would have never brought the kids."
"I would have never asked you to come if I had known! They said they wanted to meet the kids and try to start a relationship between all of us. One that Jayden's mistakes wouldn't affect." She put her face in her hands and she leaned forward. "You three have already been through hell and I just made it worse!"
I gave her a slight smile, "you tried to help, Adeline. I appreciate you trying."
She looked over to the twins, "how are they doing. considering everything?"
I cleared my throat as I didn't know what to say exactly. I didn't want her to hate her own brother more than she may already hate him. "They are doing okay, Elijah really did us a favor when he had us go to his friend's place. They are amazing for the kids and the community around there is not so judemental."
"And you?" She took my hand in hers and squeezed it slightly, "you look better than I expected."
"I am pushing through," I whispered. "This has been hard, I won't lie. But," I glanced to the twins, "they kept me grounded like they always have."
"And that idiot? How has he been towards all of you?"
I glanced to her before looking down to Addie as she watched the twins playing. "He hasn't made this easy. But none of us know what to do." I sighed again to try to lessen the anxiety building in my chest. "We are going to meet him on Wednesday."
"I could move things in my schedule if you need a buffer there."
I smirked, "I already have a friend coming with me but thank you."
"Well," she said with a chuckle, "I'm in your corner, so if you need me, EVER, you just have to call. Okay?" She stood and stretched slightly, "alright, I should get back to work. Soon enough, they'll send a search party." She kissed me on the cheek, waved to the twins, and walked away as I laid back on the bench.
One thing kept circling in my mind; how in the hell am I going to make it through Wednesday?
