Memories Pt. 2

The group had reached the halfway point in the Stelpond Forest when Kaylissa started to tell her story.

"I was born in a loving home, but that changed when I was five. My father died of an unknown illness and my mother soon followed. I was given to another family who was very cruel. They would tell me that there was something I could do to save them. I lived with that guilt for ten years. They made me their slave. I had to do everything that a slave did. They did not think of me as a daughter. They beat me, both physically and emotionally every day. Whenever I got to go into town with them, they would act like the best parents ever. If there was someone with us, they would buy me something nice, like a toy, just for them to take it away when we got back home."

Now, it was Lauren's turn to interrupt."That's awful," she said.

Kaylissa nodded. "Then, one night, Maisha came to me in a dream. She told me that everything would change and the Moonstar would come. Then one day, when my 'parents' sent me to the market, I saw a large crowd of people gathering and I saw Amias and you. I guess that is when you had first arrived. After news of Icas's defeat reached us in Wakemark, Odi came back to announce his appointment as king. He saw me, and it's like he could see my entire life story just by looking me in the eye. He told me that he was taking me to Cardell, and I went with him. I owe him everything. He saved me from those two awful people."

Lauren was speechless. "Wow, so that's why you seemed so mysterious when I first met you."

"I'm glad Odi found you," Benjamin said.

Kaylissa smiled, sadly. "Me too."
