Lizard (3)

"Shit..."

I cursed, not feeling the sensation of my mangled arm. It was beyond being severely injured; it was utterly destroyed.

I couldn't even make out where the bone ended and the torn flesh began.

The pain was also excruciating, as if each nerve were on fire, sending shockwaves of agony through my entire body.

If not for the Adrenaline rushing through my veins, I would have probably passed from the sheer shock of it all.

I think I might die.

Looking toward the massive Lizard that had been responsible for my current state, grimaced, seeing its eyes gleaming with triumph.

The Monster was also severely injured, blood dripping from its open wounds, however, none of its severe injuries seemed to faze it.

'Tenacious bastard...'

Muttering to myself, I took a step back from the creature, carefully assessing my options.

I knew I couldn't really die since I was immortal but being chewed up and torn apart by a lizard also didn't sound like a fun way to die.

If I could, I'd rather avoid dying continuously since it also puts a strain on my mental state, having to repeatedly witness my own demise.

Even today, while sleeping, I had a nightmare about the Raven I first met in this world.

The vivid image of its jet-black feathers haunted my dreams, the memories of our encounters and battles playing out in my subconscious.

"..."

I channeled as much Mana into my body as possible, feeling the bleeding of my torn flesh slowly start to slow down.

If I had another minute to spare, I could probably completely stop it, however, the Lizard wasn't going to give me a chance.

Roar...

The Monster lunged forward, its massive jaws threatening to clamp down on me in one fatal bite.

Luckily, I still had some fight in me and managed to somewhat gracefully dodge the incoming attack.

My legs were wobbly and my vision blurry, but rolling to the side wasn't an impossible feat.

However, I couldn't escape unscathed.

Thud...

While rolling away, I noticed a strange shadow approaching me and before I could even react a massive tail smashed against me, sending me crashing into the nearby rocks, intensifying the pain in my already battered body.

Grrr...

Colliding with the rocks, I let out a low growl of pain and spat blood onto my fur, trying to gather my strength once again.

Hiss...

The Lizard was obviously enjoying my current state, letting out a sound that seemed to be a mix between a hiss and a chuckle.

The creature was smart enough to know that I was no longer a threat and merely a source of nourishment and entertainment.

"..."

Looking at its predatory eyes, I could see the anticipation and hunger within them.

They looked a lot like the ones of the Demon I killed in the village...

Oh, well, I'll avoid it next time.

Breathing out a heavy sigh, I relaxed my shoulders and leaned my head against the trunk.

I threw a glance at the approaching Lizard and placed my sharp claws near the base of my throat.

I'd rather commit suicide than allow myself to be torn apart by this beast.

"M-ay we nev-er m...eet aga-n!"

I rolled my weird Wendigo tongue, producing a guttural and strange sound.

I was about to die again...

Flap... Flap...

However, before I could end my life, a distant flapping sound caught my attention.

Even the Lizard was momentarily distracted by the sound, turning its head to try and locate the source.

Flap... Flap...

The rhythmic beating of wings grew louder, capturing the attention of both the Lizard and me. I squinted my eyes, trying to make out the source of the sound.

And then, with a thunderous swoop, a magnificent creature descended from the sky - a Wyvern, with shimmering scales and sharp, predatory eyes. Its powerful wings spread wide as it approached, casting a shadow over the battlefield.

Swish...

In one swift motion, the Wyvern dove toward the ground, its claws extended. With impeccable precision, it snatched the massive Lizard by its scaly back, gripping it tightly in its grasp.

The Lizard thrashed and writhed, desperately trying to free itself from the Wyvern's clutches, but the beast refused to let go.

Higher and higher they ascended, soaring through the air as the Wyvern maintained its unyielding grip. The Lizard's eyes widened with terror as it realized its fate. It clawed at the Wyvern's talons, snapping its jaws futilely, but the Wyvern remained steadfast.

And then, at the pinnacle of their ascent, the Wyvern released its hold on the Lizard. Time seemed to stand still for a brief moment as the Lizard plummeted toward the ground, its roars echoing through the air.

With a bone-rattling thud, the Lizard crashed onto the earth, the impact causing a shockwave that rippled through the surroundings. The force of the fall shattered its remaining strength, leaving it sprawled and motionless.

I could only stare at the scene in awe and disbelief.

Why was a 30-meter monster helping me?

For a second, I pondered but quickly shook my head.

There was no way the Wyvern was helping me, it was probably just looking for a meal, and this massive lizard seemed like a tasty snack.

It seems like cannibalism of some sort...
