The White Wolf.

White stared at Lynn silently as his feelings were all over the place. This was what he'd always wanted. All he'd ever wished for since he met her five years ago. He had recognized her by her scent.

Back then, Amanda's scent was covered up by the drugs. His wolf could barely pick up her real scent, but when she got better and her drugs reduced, the smell of drugs decreased and he finally got it. Just a whiff though.

He never got another chance at it. Until he met Lynn.

That day his vampire had showed up. He had gone weak in the legs and he needed to get himself to calm down. Hiding in the alley with his back rested on the wall, the fight between him and his vampire began. The dryness in his throat burned as his senses increased. His ear could pick up noises from over four miles away. His nose picked up on the faintest smell of blood and almost immediately his whole body felt hot. His fangs shot out as his eyes went blood red. His veins turned black as proof of his vampire instinct taking over. He grunted in pain as he tried to hold on to the little sanity he had left. His left hand moved on its own but he grabbed it with his right and hugged it close. Bitting his lips as blood dripped down his chin. Now he felt another fight.

His wolf.

His wolf was getting restless, it growled guardedly as it didn't like the damage being inflicted on its vessel. Now both monsters wanted to take over. He couldn't take it. The pain was irresistible. It felt like his head would split up any minute soon. "can you two please just calm down?" He groaned and tried to take control of the situation. His claws seeped out and he could feel his anger doing the same. They never listen to him. He sighed and took in another deep breath as he knew getting his emotions all over the place was no help at the moment so he tried to relax his mind. He thought of something to help get his mind off the blood and only one came up. Her voice echoed in his ears.

"You can do it".

His heavy breathing slowly normalized as his mind cleared up. He could feel his wolf and vampire slowly retreating. He curled up as a bitter taste was left in his mouth. Amanda's voice came back to him. He loved it, but at the same time hated it. Remembering her made him happy and it also made his heart ache, 'cause he's always forced to face the truth.

She was gone.

The streets boomed with vehicle noises and chatters, but the alley felt so quiet. He sat there alone for a while. The breeze picked up, and that was when he heard it again. The especially loud noises focused on a particular direction. He listened closely.

"What happened?"

"Oh my god!"

"A fire? How'd that happen?"

"I just called the ambulance. Mrs Wayne is not going to b happy when she sees this"

White stood up and went out of the alley. He could see the black smoke elevating into the sky as the people on his side were now curious about the cause of it. He stared down the road and his eyes trailed past buildings as he finally saw the scene two miles away.

He could see some people standing in front of a burning house. The fire fighters arrived as they all got down to business immediately. The fire looked pretty serious, the whole house was pretty much engulfed in it.

"I hope no one's there."

"It's okay. No one's usually home at this hour. The kids are at school and Mrs Wayne... Mrs Wayne?!"

White saw a woman running at full speed towards the house as she dropped the bag of groceries in her hand.

"Ohmygod! Lynn! Lynn!"

"Ma'am, you have to stay back, the fire is too..."

"My daughter is in there!! Lynn!!!"

White eyes dashed into the house, the ceiling was now falling apart. He scanned the house and finally caught sight of a little Lynn unconscious on the floor. He could make out the firefighters being slowed down by the roof coming down in front of them. At the same time, the top part of where Lynn laid let loose and came crashing down and his legs moved before his mind. He hugged her just in time as the woods came crashing down on him. He breathed out in relief as he knew she definitely wouldn't have survived the hit. He looked at the tiny human in his hand and that was when he smelt it. Almost like she was drenched in it, Amanda's scent poured out of her.

"Lynn!"

White jumped at the sudden voice and sped out of the house hoping her mom hadn't seen him. Maintaining a distance from the house, he stood in a daze. He wasn't sure about what he had just smelt. He'd spent over 200 years on earth and he'd never come across a human with the same smell as another. There were times they smelt familiar, but that was due to the sprays invented. Even with that, their true scent stuck to them and could never escape his nose. He could feel his hands trembling with excitement. He told himself he was mistaken, that the smoke had mixed up with her real scent. There was only one way to find out for sure. He was going to smell her again.

After that, he found himself standing next to her bed. She was still asleep. She had inhaled a lot of the smoke but she had no injuries. Thankfully the doctor said she was going to be fine after getting treatment. He stared at her and he just couldn't understand. It was impossible. Hard to believe, but yet there he stood. His nose not even at arms length range but her scent filled his nose as clear as air.

"Is it really you?" He found himself mutter as a lump formed in his throat.

"You're gonna stare a hole in her if you keep staring like that" Someone said behind him and he looked back in surprise to see Lynn's mom. Her eyes were red from crying. His brows furrowed. He hadn't noticed her, neither did he smell her. He smelt something different from her that bothered him but he knew he had to leave before she calls the cops on him.

"I'm sorry for barging in. I got the wrong room." He said and pulled on his hoody to make sure his hair was still covered. He started to move for the door.

"Thank you." Mrs Wayne said catching him off guard.

"For what?" He looked back suspecting what she was gonna say next.

"For saving my daughter," she said and gave him a little smile "I saw you."

He looked away and said "I don't know what you're talking about"

She didn't say anything else for a moment then she spoke up "Alright then. If you say so. But I really am grateful, I can't even imagine that I'd just almost lost her today. If you weren't there I really don't know what I'd have done. I really don't know how to repay you. If there's anything you'd like me to do for you I promise to help if it's within my power. I promise."

Her words came out to him with so much truth that he got tempted. He felt he hadn't done anything to deserve a reward. He had planned to leave like nothing had happened and let it be. His mind told him not to but he just couldn't ignore the hunger that had been buried inside him. He looked back at her as their eyes met. His heart raced.

He was scared.

Scared to get her answer, but the words still came out.

"Then..."

******

He stared at Lynn as he realized it's actually been twelve years since then. Now she'd cleared his curiosity. One way or the order, she's connected to Amanda. Was she sent by Amanda? Or did she reincarnate? He didn't know. He reached for her face and placed his forehead on hers. She felt warm.

Whatever the case was, this body. This human. This girl. He was going to protect her with his life.

No matter what.

He drew his head back as he could no longer ignore his wolf. He'd been itching to let out for a while now. He knew how much Lynn disliked dogs and he didn't want to frighten her. He stared at her again as he just couldn't help the thought of how she looked beautiful sleeping. He got up.

"Just for a moment" he muttered and closed his eyes. He could feel the breeze brush up against him. He cracked his neck as his bones shifted, his clothes tore off as his white fur covered him up. Now in his wolf form, he climbed onto the bed and the breeze that blew his fur felt good. It'd been a while since he'd let his wolf stretch. He looked at Lynn and he didn't realize how hard his tail was wagging until Lynn let out a groan. He froze for a minute till he made sure she had gone back to sleep. He hadn't felt this happy in years. His wolf had been feeling under the weather, it neither wanted to stretch itself nor did it have any interest. Not until now. He gently rubbed his face against Lynn as she let out a giggle that made him smile. He stretched out his paws and laid next to her.

Was this really okay? He felt so happy at the moment that he couldn't help but feel scared at the same time. When someone gets a taste of something sweet, they crave for more. He had promised himself to watch her from the shadows and let her live the life she wants, but he could tell he was getting greedy. Watching over her had made him see her different sides and sometimes he wanted it all to himself. How much longer could he hold it in? He would have to be careful. His eyes closed shut as he felt himself relaxing with her scent.

Lynn's consciousness came back to her as the aroma of flowers filled her nose and made her feel lazy to get up. Her hand shifted and it brushed against something soft and fluffy. She felt it again.

"This feels good" She thought with a smile, but it faded almost immediately as she realized the soft thing was moving. Up and down. Breathing?!

Her eyes shot open as a white fur came into view. She moved back a bit to get a full view and a hiccup left her lips with a widened eyes. The wolf's eyes slowly opened up as she met with the loveliest blue she'd ever seen. The gentle eyes looked so familiar that she was sucked in for a moment as neither of them moved an inch. Her senses crawled back in and she realized what was next to her.

"Ahhhhhh!!!"

She attempted to crawl out but her hand slipped off the corner of the bed and she landed with a thud

"Ouch!" She groaned as she struggled to roll on her stomach. She held her head with a wince and she froze at the sight of her room. "What the hell happened here?!"

She heard the sheets rustle and her guard shot up once again. The wolf jumped off the bed and she shuffled back until her back came against the wall. She watched the wolf walk off and finally come to a stop 12 feet away from her. She felt her heart seize as it's stare made her scared. The picture of that night flashed in her mind and she gripped the end of the bed.

"How did it get in her room? What exactly happened and where the hell is Simon?!" She thought. Her hands were beginning to go cold from fear as a lump formed in her throat. Her legs were trembling and she knew if she dared to try and run, it wouldn't end well. The wolf moved and she screamed again, folding up this time.

When she heard no movement or felt any attack, she slowly peeked at it hoping it had gone out through her window or something but it was still there. Sitting on its hind legs and staring at her. She looked at it suspiciously. It's big bright blue eyes seemed to stare deep at her heart. She couldn't point out if it was the effect of the light that came in through the window but it's fur looked pure white. She couldn't help but think it was the purest white she'd ever seen. Then it dawned on her that she'd had a similar thought about something but she couldn't remember what. Watching the wolf sit, something came back to her.

She had a dream.

She was standing in a beautiful garden surrounded by flowers. All of different kind but they looked well kept and they had bloomed under the bright and clear weather. The colors beautified the space and she could feel her heart warm up at the sight. Amidst all that, something else caught her attention.

More like someone.

There was someone kneeling in the midst of the garden with his back to her. She wondered if he was busy admiring the flowers or lazing around but when she moved closer to him, she realized she was wrong.

He was crying.

On his knees with his head thrown back and raised to the sky, he wept. He looked desperate and hurt as his cries made her heart sink. She rarely saw guys her age cry and it was surprising to see but something about him was different. She could feel something well up inside her. Listening to him cry caused a sting in her eyes and throat. She wanted to say something to him. Anything at all... but her voice wouldn't come out. She couldn't make a sound. All she could do was watch this person tear up. It hurt her, he was right in front of her but it felt like there was something keeping her away, and she hated it. She couldn't see him but she still hated it. He clutched his chest and stooped. When he screamed out, her shaky hands covered her mouth and she hadn't realized the tears that had been flowing down her eyes. Immediately she felt this, she bursted out in tears. Her chest felt so tight as she was flooded with emotions she couldn't explain. Her voice trembled as the words left her mouth before she could process it.

"I'm sorry!"

He didn't seem to have heard her, but the sore feeling in her heart wouldn't leave her.

"I'm really sorry!"

*

Remembering it made her sigh embarrassedly. She was so glad it was all a dream. She had basically cried for someone she knew nothing about. She couldn't even see his face neither did she remember anything about him.

She stared at the wolf which was the problem at hand now. Her memories jugged back as she wondered what exactly had happened after the gathering. Was I able to help Simon? How are my friends and where exactly was Simon? How did this wolf get in her room? Is it also a human that could change or is it just a wolf? Questions filled her head as the silence remained between them. She couldn't feel her body now. She was completely gripped by fear. She really wished the wolf would walk out the window itself.

"Don't animals try to leave when they're with humans? Even if it's human, can't you really read the room?!" She screamed in her mind. Just then the wolf moved and she flinched as her heart beat faster. She watched the wolf walk off in the windows direction. It was strange. She was scared of dogs and wolves but she could read them like the back of her hand. She could tell when one was angry, when they were ready to attack, or when they were sad. Just like the wolf walking off with it's slouched ears and tails. It climbed the window and looked back at her like it was asking to stay some more and Lynn got the message. But it wasn't in her to- do list to tell a wolf to stay some more.

When she was trying to get her head around the actions of the wolf, the wind picked up and blew in her direction. The aroma hit her and her eyes widened as the sweet scent brought up only one picture to her head.

The garden.

The wolf walked out and she was left alone with a nostalgic feeling. After getting a whiff of that scent, she yearned for something, and the feeling wouldn't go away even as the breeze blew straight at her.
