Somewhere into the night Jessa fell asleep and after a bit, her body began to shake. She shivered violently as if she were being electrocuted. James's head snapped up and he looked terrified. Her face was red as a cherry and covered in a sheen of sweat.

He looked to Sam and asked how much further they had to go. Sam has been satisfied they weren't being followed hours ago and began heading towards their territory before they stopped for food.

"About there now. Maybe 20 minutes, faster if I stick to the back way and speed…." He said finally glancing back and seeing Jessa's condition. His eyes went black with determination as his wolf Edge pushed forward. "Speeding it is!" He growled.

In 11 minutes or less he brought the suv to a stop outside the pack hospital. He rushed in calling for a full medical staff and a gurney to the front immediately. Everyone rushed forward unsure of what was going on. Had the alpha been injured?!?!

They rushed forward to find the alpha carrying what appeared to be a very injured child into the doors. He placed her down gently on the bed and ordered the best doctors in the hospital to her immediately.

As they wheeled her towards a room the head doctor was accessing her. She was astonished to find that this wasn't a child, but rather a very petite woman! And my goddess! What had happened to this poor thing?!?! She was too thin, and covered in scars! She had a peculiar smell! Not human, not wolf. Was she perhaps a half-breed? Goddess! She smelled of wolvesbane! Who had done this?!?!

"Everyone clear away! She's been poisoned with wolvesbane and silver, do not touch her blood. Alpha, who is this poor thing? How did she get this way?" Dr. Black asked

Alpha James recounted the story of who she was and how he found her. Everyone in the room collectively growled at hearing her story. The doctor tenderly touched Jessa's exquisite face. She looked no older than her own daughter… to think what this child has suffered! Omega or not, she certainly did NOT deserve what she had endured! Her attention turned to the medical necessities before her. She ordered her attendings about to start treatment for the poisoning, infection and blood tests. They couldn't know what type of blood was needed until they knew her blood type. And she surely needed blood at this point with the wounds she had. She must've lost a lot.

"Alpha, perhaps you should wait in the waiting area until I can get a better understanding of what she will need? You must surely be exhausted by now." She said

"I will not leave her side. See to it her siblings are accessed and treated as well please?" He growled.

"Are they as injured as well?" She asked shocked

"No, but they are malnourished and need a full work up too. They were slaves. I believe the girl, Amelia, has been abused in the most horrific way. A fate Jessa narrowly avoided…" he said his tone conveying his disgust.

The doctors eyes went wide with shock. She paged immediately for her sister to attend Amelia. That was more her area of expertise. She was the best Obgyn this side of the country. She'd get her righted out.

She turned her attention back to Jessa. Such a small and beautiful girl. And a complete mystery. What on earth was she?!?! The doctor gently untied the makeshift shirt and even more gently pulled it off her back making note of the parts it was stuck, matted to her skin by blood. She gasped at the sight of the wound so very near to her spine that she could almost see the bone of her rib sticking through. Had she no wolf? How curious.

Carefully she cleaned the wounds. No doubt this was done by silver. And not the first time either by the sheer number of scars scoring her back and a few along her chest. She heard the alpha growl and hiss under his breath at the sight of her alabaster skin so scarred and covered in blood and bruises. This poor creature could not have done anything so heinous as to deserve this! Murderers didn't even get this treatment!

"Alpha, if this is upsetting, please feel free to step out. She won't be waking up anytime soon. I have given her a sedative so I can debris her wounds and clean them. It would be too painful and inhumane for me to have not given her something. Hopefully she is dreaming sweet dreams and she is peaceful."

"I can't leave her. I believe she might very well be my mate. I can't know for sure as she has no wolf. But I feel a pull to her regardless. Jax won't let me leave."

The doctor nodded. She could feel the girl had power. She might not have a wolf yet, but she would be willing to bet that she would indeed have one. She was strong. She had to be. Who else could have survived all this? There must be a reason why her wolf hasn't come yet. Something about her was just so wrong. She couldn't place it yet.

As she stood pondering the curious young woman before her she had a sudden realization. Wolvesbane! She was regularly beaten, it would stand to reason that she was also regularly subjected to it! That would keep her wolf away! She ordered a rush on the blood work and finished cleansing the wounds. She'd need stitches for sure.

For two days Jessa stayed unconscious. Alpha rarely left her side. Sam was in charge of the packs business for the moment. As beta it was his job to be able to run the pack just as well as the alpha himself. It was no task for him to do so.

As he sat in his office Sam couldn't help but let his mind wander. There was something in the way James looked at Jessa. He could feel it. She was something to him. But what? They couldn't know if she was his mate. She had no wolf. Could a wolfless one have a mate? And what of her siblings? They were certainly not going to be put in a house alone. Though he had no doubt that Jessa and Amelia could continue raising Caleb as they had since he was a small child, they were still very young themselves. He would not separate them. Could not. They wouldn't hear of it. So Caleb and Amelia had been placed in a three bedroom suite right on the top floor of the pack house. On the Alpha's very floor. The Luna Mae had taken to them immediately. As had former Alpha Andrew and the alphas siblings. Twins Alex and Anna. His second younger brother was away on business.

They arranged for Caleb to have educational testing so they could get him into school and found that Amelia was amazing in the kitchen. So she began working as a kitchen hand. Now if Jessa would wake up everything would be perfect!
