"Hey mum" I hugged and kissed her on both cheeks. 

"Mariah" I bent to hug her "Hope he's been on his best behavior?" I pointed at King who doesn't seem to be too excited to see me. 

"Mathew" I smiled at my stepfather and gave him a nod. 

"I'm guessing this is Trevor" my mom walked close to Jordan who gave me a questionable look. 

"Actually mum, his name is Jordan. I didn't want you to do a background ground check hence the fake name" I deserve the best liar trophy award for this stunt I pulled. 

Jordan gave me the 'we are not done talking about this' look and we all took our seats at the dining. 

"So tell us Jordan, what do you do and why our daughter?" Matthew asked

"My name is Jordan Crossfire, I own a tower company in the city and I chose your daughter because she completes me." 

I saw my mum smile and it made me proud to know she found him suitable considering the number of people she's set me up with. 

"So Jordan, are you going to get married to her soon?" Mariah asked making me choke on the food in my mouth. 

"Yes," Jordan looked at me with so much love in his eyes "I need to get married to her. I love her so much and I can't even quantify that." He grabbed my knuckles and placed a brief kiss on my palm.

We ate through dinner talking about my funny childhood memories. 

"One time she even asked a guy out in high school and sadly he declined which worsened her introverted nature." My mom laughed while Jordan and I looked at each other with smiles.

"The whole school knew and made life unbearable for her. It influenced my decision to move us to a different city and start anew." 

"Mum" I cautioned before she'll run her mouth as far as talking about Luke. I hadn't told Jordan about that cause it didn't seem relevant and it's a phase of my life I am done with. I would not want him to find out via this way. I don't even want him to find out at all. 

"Ok. I've heard you. I won't say any more of your embarrassing moments" she chuckled and it earned me a Jordan dimpled smile. 

If we didn't have company, I would have stripped him bare on the table and sucked him like a sweet dessert. 

Dinner went well and when it was time to go, my mum's smile was abruptly replaced with a frown. 

"Mariah, go play with King in April's room"

She hurried off to my room. 

"My answer is no. No, you can't be with my daughter" 

"Mum?" I gave her a confused questioning look. 

"This is who you brought home to us? A cheat and player?" She kept the tempo of her voice on the lowest trying not to attract Mariah's attention. 

"I don't understand. Everything went well  what happened?"

I looked at Jordan whom I knew was breaking inside and only kept it together on the outside. 

"This happened!" She shoved the screen of her face towards us. "Not even a single good news of him on the internet. With everything that happened with Luke, I expected you to do better."

"Mum he's not a bad person. Those articles are not true."

"Are you defending him?"

"Yes mum!" I screamed unable to take any more of her conclusions. "Jordan is not what the media tags him. Those hungry lots would write anything to get a paycheck. They don't know him and only judge from the outside. I've been on the inside and I must say he's too good for me." I look at him, remembering the night I took his virginity. My mum walked close to me and pulled me into her embrace after a little while of silence.

"I'm so sorry April. I just don't want you to get hurt. It'll break me to see you go through what happened again."

"I understand and don't blame you for it." 

I pulled out of her arms and returned to Jordan's. 

"I'm sorry I judged you based on this Jordan." She apologized. 

"It's ok Mrs. Sophie, I would do more than that to protect my future daughter too."  

The air cooled off after a little silence. 

My mum went to my room and came back with Mariah and King.

"We'll be going now" Matthew announced. 

I sunk into the nearest chair exhausted after my family left.

"Who's Trevor? Who's Luke?" Jordan said, standing in front of me and hands rested on his hips. 

"Nothing you should worry about" I whispered, not ready for another confrontational argument. 

" I beg to differ considering I feel there's a lot to talk about them"

"Fine." I rose up to my feet " I've had a stressful night as it is and you clearly don't care. Trevor was my cooked up boyfriend plan to get my mum off my back so he doesn't exist and Luke, I was supposed to get married to him and then he ran away on our wedding day with the excuse of being in love with someone else are you happy? Do you trust me at all when I say there's nothing to talk about regarding a topic?" 

He remained silent.

"That's what I thought" I slowly walked to my room, got naked and into the shower.

I was half asleep in the tub when Jordan walked in naked. If he thinks sex would solve this problem then he's in for a different ride.
