Chapter 2

Ying took a bath and got some fresh clothes for her father. She didn't want to see her mother before leaving for the hospital because she knew that Mrs Lin would beg her to change her mind.

As she walked down the stairs, she spotted her grandfather sitting on the chair he always sat on. He had a walking stick by his side and his expression was icy as always.

Lin Ying drew closer then spoke, "I will be leaving for the hospital now grandpa." she bowed but before she could leave, the old man spoke.

"Old Chen has set up a meeting between you and his grandson Chen Zhen." he passed her a paper with an address written on it. "You should go to this address. He will be waiting for you." the old man informed and Ying sighed.

She hesitated before taking the paper from his hand. It felt as though she was being sold off but she tried her best to maintain a smile. After all, she was doing this for her father.

"Okay Grandpa." she took the clothes with her and went to the location. It was a five-star restaurant where only the elites in China could go.

She left the clothes she had brought for her father in the car because she planned to visit him immediately after the meeting was over.

She sighed as she stood in front of the restaurant. Lin Ying wondered if her family was still allowed to go in but just then, the man standing by the entrance walked up to her.

"Maam, are you Ms Lin Ying?" he wasn't conversant with her because she spent most of her life outside the country but old Chen had informed them that someone would be coming this afternoon and ordered that they let her in once she gets there.

She was surprised at first but nodded eventually.

"This way please." he showed her in and she followed behind him quietly. Old Chen had booked the entire floor for just the both of them. Because Chen Zhen was very famous across China, he didn't want to inconvenience his grandson.

The man led her to her table and a waitress approached her with a menu while the man walked out.

"Place an order ma'am. Mr Chen Zhen isn't here yet," she explained and Lin Ying nodded taking the menu from her hand but soon passed it back to the waitress.

"I'll just have water." her gentle and polite voice was bewitching. Even the waitress was surprised for a moment.

"Oh... Okay ma'am." she walked away with the menu in her hand. This was a five-star restaurant where only elites came yet this lady was asking for water?

The waitress went to get water and then discussed it with her Co-workers. "I'm confused, she only asked for water," she explained.

A co-worker furrowed her brow. "Are you sure she's the one we are expecting?" she was equally confused because most ladies from elite homes would make expensive orders and to crown it all up, she was here to meet with Chen Zhen who was the most famous man in China. How can she ask for ordinary water?

They browsed through the internet for Lin Ying but only some artworks of a famous artist who resides overseas popped up. The co-workers exchanged glances and then sighed.

Lin Ying was wearing a casual green dress which didn't appear to be expensive. "I guess this is another person."

The waitress from before sighed and took the water to Lin Ying. She carefully placed the water on the table and then sighed. Lin Ying thanked her.

"You're welcome ma'am." the waitress responded but didn't leave.

Lin Ying looked up at her quizzically causing the waitress had to break the news to Lin Ying. "I'm sorry ma'am but there is a misunderstanding. We are expecting Ms Lin Ying from the Lin family. Are...you Ms Lin?" she asked to confirm and Lin Ying nodded.

She smiled understanding why the waitress was confused. "My name is Lin Ying and I'm here to meet Mr Chen. His grandfather sent me the address." she politely explained.

The waitress found it hard to believe her because she looked too simple and the way she spoke was gently unlike all those rich brats who would often show their superiority whenever they came to the restaurant.

Lin Ying sighed and then searched through her purse, "Here. This is my ID card." she showed the waitress and only then did she believe Lin Ying.

"I see. I'm sorry for the inconveniences I may have caused you." she bowed and apologized.

Lin Ying nodded in understanding. After all, the waitress was only doing her job.

After the waitress went back to her co-workers, they talked about how simple Lin Ying was.

"I didn't know Mr Chen would consider talking to someone of such standards." one of the co-workers commented.

"Why? Is it because she looks like she's from a poor background or because Mr Chen is an arrogant man?" the waitress that served Ying asked.

The former shrugged with her arms folded, "Both."

Lin Ying looked at the time and sighed. She waited longer but Chen Zhen didn't show up. Because her grandfather would get furious, she decided to wait a little longer even though she wanted to drop by the hospital.

Ying was a respecter of time and believed that everyone should respect other people's time but she couldn't get mad now because she didn't want to disappoint her grandfather. Most especially, she wanted to make sure that she did her best.

The sun began to set but Chen Zhen was still nowhere in sighed. Ying had been sitting there for over three hours and had finally reached her limit.

She checked her purse and brought out money to pay for her bill. She placed it on the table and then stood up to leave but the moment she turned around, she went face-first into a hard surface.
