Max left the house feeling rejuvenated and happy. His family had agreed to his plans. For some weird reason, he especially liked the fact that Beau had consented to it. They were two men who worked in extremely different fields but would be in consensus about most topics.
That made him feel closer to the man. They have come to know of him through Jasmine who apparently have known the man since her university days. It didn't matter though. He fit right through their family perfectly. He drove off feeling lighter and warmer inside.
The others also dispersed leaving Jasmine and Beau behind. Jasmine stood up and led her manager and best friend towards her studio. The two sat side by side sipping on fresh fruit juice.
" Pal, do you think your family will ever change their perspective of you?"
Beau looked up at Jasmine and shrugged his shoulder. His family had thrown him out of their house when they discovered that he was gay. They especially disliked the fact that the son they brought up in a strict catholic environment would have the guts to fall in love with members of the same gender.
As for him, he had never believed in religion. He liked to think that he was an agnostic. He felt constrained by the religious rules which were imposed on him. Being the genius that he was, he had ventured into the business of arts at a young of of 14 years.
He was lucky enough to get attached to an agency that helped him sale his materials. That was around the time he discovered his attraction to the same gender. He had met Javier whom he fell madly in love with.
Being a minor and new to the gay world, he had entered into a relationship with the man. Javier was three years older than him but seemed to be more experienced and mature. They had been so much in love for years until Javier started complaining.
He wanted to make their relationship public but Beau being the son of a catholic church pastor was too afraid to come out to his family. They managed to stay hidden for four years until Beau was of legal age.
Their disagreement on exposing the relationship didn't sit well with Javier who kept accusing Beau of cheating. Even so, they would always make up and continue as though nothing happened .
That was until one day Beau got home and found his entire family waiting for him. His clothes were packed and placed in a large suitcase. The moment he sat down, he knew that he was screwed. His father hit him in the face with a heavy set of pictures.
He was left wondering how the picture got into their hands until a video of him and Javier was shoved into his face. This came as a blow to his young mind. There was only one explanation for things. Only one person could record their intimate moments and take pictures. Javier.
That marked the day his family disowned him. His siblings were too young to help him. Hell, the youngest was in fact ignorant of what was going on. Little Isla had crawled towards her favorite horse and wrapped her small hands around his knees.
Unfortunately, they had been separated by the mother before he could lift her into his arms for one last time. He became homeless and abandoned thanks to the man he was planning to gift the first luxurious house he had bought.
His parents found out his sexuality in the worst way possible and there was nothing he could do to change their minds nor convince them otherwise. This changed his life and shaped his view of the world to what it is at the present.
Additionally, when he went to find Javier in hope of getting an explanation for what he had done, he received another shock. The man had been having an affair with multiple other men. Upon being caught red handed, he had broke up with him calling him a cheap whore.
In a matter of a few hours, he lost his family, the man he thought would be his forever, his pride and his dignity. Fortunately, he had enough money to survive on his own until he made an empire of his own. An empire that now ran without his presence. The same empire whose main artist was currently sitting beside him.
Her single question had taken him down the memory lane. He let out a heavy sigh before answering. " My parents would probably never see my world the way I want them to see it. They will stick to their beliefs till their last breath. I only wish I could meet my younger sister. She had been only a year old when I left home. I am sure she doesn't even know that she has an elder brother. "
Jasmine realize the type of things her innocent question had triggered. It was sad how society hated on someone because they had different preferences than most. Leaving in the orphanage had thought her to accept people as they were. Everyone was entitled to their own opinion. No one was superior than the other for by the end of the day, we all eat and defecate. No exemption.
There, she had found a family in children from different ethnicity, religious beliefs and skin tones. No one cared about those things as long as they got enough food to eat and a place to sleep. They lived together sharing their hunger on days where there was no food and enjoying a full meal together on days they could afford to eat three times a day.
She looked at the sad expression on Beau's face. It was time to tease the guy. " Hey Boo, do you like Max? He can fix your mood . Besides, you have been single for twelve years now. Why don't you court the guy ? Against your charm, he is as defenseless as a toddler."
Upon the mention of the name Max, Beau's face flushed a bright shade of red. " I think, I might be in love with him. His compassion and decision to adopt that baby made me admire and respect him more.
It would be an honor for me to call him my man. He is a family man who helps the society for a living and has a beautiful helping heart. The problem is, I don't know if I deserve him. I am already tainted while he has never had a lover. In addition, I am almost sure that he is as straight as anyone could be."
Jasmine listened to the man degrading his worth and a frown took over her initially smiling face." Wait a minute buddy, what do you mean by not deserving him? Don't you remember what you did for me? You rescued me from you know who. You saved my life and helped me find Daddy Edgar.
In fact, you did more than that. It was because you accepted a nobody like me into your company that I was able to sustain my life. You literally sponsored my education by accepting to be my manager for free. Unlike others, you were true to your words and never took advantage of me. If there is someone who deserves Max, then that would be you. As for him being straight, let's see how much longer he can stay that way." She winked at him eliciting another blush from him.
This world is as temporary as everything else. since even items have expiry dates, how can we pride ourselves for being superior when we cant even control our own lives?whether death or fate, none is within our control. That's why no one should look down on others. Every one matters. Before opening our mouths to judge and demean a person, it would be wonderful to reflect on our own deeds, especially those we do in hiding.
