Xander woke with a start at the sound of soft whimpers beside him. He bit hard on his lips trying to contain the pain he felt inside. He had called a doctor during the wee hours just to ask for a sedative for his child. He bent low and placed an affectionate kiss on His son's forehead.
He then kissed away the tears that had already soaked the pillow. His heart ached so much he was uncertain whether he was sick or just His emotions. He tucked Alex in properly when the boy stopped whimpering.
To the rest of the world, Alex was a grown-up man who should take responsibility for his decisions and actions. Cancer used to think so much until he realized, that his son was still the child he carried with tears in his eyes on their first meeting. He used to condemn parents who indulged their children's every need.
