144 The Only One Who Can

As the ambulance drove away, Emily stared on in disbelief at what had just happened. Justin fainted…while trying to run away from her. He actually ran! She had never seen him run (their one time attempt at a three-legged race probably didn't count) and was willing to bet he hadn't done it since high school P.E.

Pain ripped through her chest. Justin probably hated her now. Why else would he flee like his life depended on it?

Part of her wanted to give up and go home since he clearly didn't want to see her. It took all of her willpower not to curl up in a ball on the ground and weep right in the middle of the museum.

He didn't want her anymore. Alexa's cruel comment about picking things up where they left off being impossible (before she did a complete 180 and sent her off with support) came to mind.

Was this really the end? The real end? Ten years of love, extinguished just like that?
