chapter 7

Not quite long after, police came and Christine both hands were cuffed in front of her. Ann smirked at her and she watched the police take her away.

When Christine was en route to the station with the police to convince them it seemed Ann's influence had blinded them they were not even ready to listen to her at all.

When they got to the station, Christine was taken to one of the private cells and the cuffs were taken off from her hands. She sat down with her hands covering her face.

She was mad and full of regret but anytime the thought of calling her father to help her out crossed her mind she immediately hesitated.

After a few minutes of sitting down alone with different thoughts running through her mind, the door cracked open and an officer walked in and sat down.

"Ma'am we have a videotape of you hitting a lady that we've learnt is your maid and I am sure you know the laws ma'am that was abuse." the officer said and paused for a while then he was staring at Christine it was as if he was expecting her to say something.

"Would you like to oppose it ma'am?" the officer said after a few minutes of waiting.

"But before you say anything ma'am I would like to remind you that we are being recorded currently and you should be careful with whatever you say because this video might be tendered in the court if we are to arraign this case to the court." the officer said calmly but Christine did not move an inch nor was she even ready to say anything.

"ma'am we could have granted but this abuse is too much and there are bruises all over your maid's body that's unlawful so if she is willing to take this case too far I'm afraid bail might be allowed." The officer let out with remorse.

Christine did not say anything. She still had her hands covering her face as she was staring at the floor. Then suddenly she snapped and the officer was a little bit shocked but he composed himself well.

"Wait what?" She said and had a grim expression on her face.

"Did you just mention bruises?" She asked as she widened her eyes.

"Yes ma'am there are bruises all over her body and we can't even interrogate her at the moment we are told that she's in the hospital. She passed out when you were hitting her." The officer said with a confused look on her face.

"Hospital?" Christine yelled and the officer looked more confused.

"Yes ma'am." The officer responded almost immediately.

There was an utmost silence in the room. Christine couldn't believe what she just heard in her mind. It was just a slap, how come it resulted in going to the hospital?

"Can I see the video?" Christine asked after a few minutes of total silence.

"Yes of course you can." The officer said and showed her the video.

Christine was so shocked when she saw herself hitting the maid so hard.

"This can't be no!" She yelled.

"Officer, it was just a slap I did not hit to help this much. Please cross-check this video that it has been tampered with." She claimed with sweat dripping off her body and fear written all over her face.

The officer was trying to explain to her when another officer opened the door and signalled to the officer sitting in the room with Christine.

He stood up immediately and they both went out. After a few minutes Christine was released but she did not have any idea about what transpired nor did the police say anything about it to her.

On her way out, she almost slumped when she saw a face staring at her furiously. She stopped to have a better glare at the person's face and it was Daren!

She hastily dashed out without looking back. There was no one outside to pick up with fear written all over. She hurriedly booked a cab, and when she was about to enter Daren was on his way out of the station too.

Christine rushed on and pestered the driver to drive as fast as he could. When she got back home, Ann had left but the maid was still there inside the house but James was not there.

When she saw the maid she hissed and walked into her room without uttering a single word. She took her bath and came out to cook when James arrived.

"Christine." He called out immediately as he entered but she did not act as if she heard him at all.

He followed her into the and was trying to have a conversation with her but she was not ready to even face him.

"Christine, I'm so sorry about what happened today." James let out remorsefully.

"She did not consult me at all before she brought the maid and it was quite too late before I heard about your arrest." He let out again and this time Christine glared at him.

"you did not know anything about my release too?" She asked with a grim expression on her face.

"Yes, and I'm sorry about that." James said.

Christine stood there staring at James. She had no idea why the police released her so soon and since it was not James the person must be influential too, then she thought about her father and then sighs.

"Christine!" James called out as he tapped her and she was shocked as she was already lost in thoughts.

"Leave me alone!" She yelled at him and walked away.

She headed back into her room with anger and the thoughts of who helped her. Not quite long after she heard James' voice in the sitting shouting, she hurriedly dashed to the living to see what was happening.

"Get out!" James roared and the shivering maid ran out of the house. Christine leaned her body on the wall as she watched James chase the maid out of the house.

"Can we talk now?" James asked calmly and she nodded at him and then moved closer to him. They both sat down staring at the floor till James broke the silence.

"Christine I am truly sorry about…" He paused and then suddenly snapped.

"You know what, go and dress up, let's go out." He let out and Christine glanced at him using her facial expression to ask if he was sure he then nodded and she happily headed back into her room to change her outfit.

James was awed by her beauty when she walked out of the room. Christine noticed his reaction and swiftly moved towards him before he could stand up.

She stood in front of him and turned around. "How do I look?" She asked with a soft smile on her face. James stood up and drew her closer to himself.

"Wow your elegance is unmatched, you look so bea…" She locked eyes with him and placed her lips on his making him halt his speech immediately.

Christine pushed him gently and he sat back on the plush couch. Christine laid on him and they began kissing, the intense chemistry and romance overwhelmed Christine's mind. It has been so long since she had a moment like this with him.

James was breathing hard as he rubbed his hands through her body gently.

"Please come back to me." Christine let out softly in between the kiss and James stopped immediately. He pushed her back and stood up immediately.

"What?" Christine muttered as she stared at him confused.

"Come on please." She let out and James just walked away back to the room without uttering a single word nor did he look back at her.

Christine dashed behind him but before she could meet up with him, he had already entered the room and shut the door.

"James!" She called out yelling at the top of her voice but to no avail.

"But what did I do to deserve this much hate from you? Is this all happening because of Ella?" Christine continued but there was no response.

After a few minutes indoors, James came out and headed straight to the sitting room, Christine followed him again and she was shocked when she got there and met Ella sitting down.

She watched them kiss and hug each other, with anger Christine dashed out of the house and slammed the door so hard.

"Why is this happening to me?" She muttered as she entered her car, after a few minutes she ignited the car engine and drove out of the house.

She continued driving with thoughts running through her mind. She felt really bad about the whole situation and was even more pissed off that she is unable to do anything about it all.

But even with the anger and frustration she still believes that James will come back to her and Ella will apologize to her.

She looked around and saw a tavern. She parked her car well and entered the place. She walked to the last edge and the attendant walked up to her almost immediately after she sat down.

"A bottle of Château Lafite 1869 please." She said gently and the waiter widened his eyes.

"A full bottle?" He asked and Christine stretched out her prepaid card to him.

"I'm sorry ma'am." He said and hurriedly walked back and brought the drink with a glass cup.

He served her and she began drinking without caution.

"Hi." She heard a familiar voice say and the person sat down in the seat in front of her.

She looked up and almost passed out.
