I stare at him with my jaw on the ground from the shock. There were very few things that shocked me since every of my senses were enhanced. But since this human came, it has been one shock to the other.

"Well, don't just stand there with your mouth open." He rolled his eyes at me.

I am still rooted to my spot, then I remember the doctor said he will be waking up whenever he wants to.

"The doctor. I have to get the doctor. Don't move an inch." I say to him.

He jumps down from the bed the second I make a move in the direction of the door.

"What the heck are you doing?" he whispered harshly to me.

I blink at him. He was crouched on the floor, his eyes darting everywhere.

"That is exactly what I was going to ask you." I whisper back with the same harshness ad his own whisper. What is with the men I knew whispering anyway?

He blinked at me like I was the one who was just almost suffocated to death and is jumping around like i was super human.

I walk up to him, carefully staying at least two feet away from him, despite the pull desperately dragging me to him. Even from here I can perceive his scent and it is intoxicating. The best fragrance my nose ever perceived to be honest.

"is anybody else outside?" he asked me in that same whisper.

Was he crazy?

"No.. It is just me." I size him up and down. If he was plotting his escape it would be very foolish of him.

He visibly sagged. Did he think it would be easier to take me on?

Grace was going crazy with her victory dance at the fact that the human was still very much alive. I want to tell her to calm down but I could not afford to take my eyes off him just in case he decides to run away.

He walks towards me with a vigour that did not look like he was almost dead few minutes ago.

"Where are you going?" I almost pull at his arm but he jerked away the last second.

He simply pulled the door to his hospital room shut.

"privacy." He shrugged before plopping down on his bed.

"These things are really awful." He tells me as he expertly plucked the needles connecting the medical equipment to him. The tubes had followed him around even when he walked to the door.

"What the heck is going on? Stop that." I order.

He snorts as the last tube falls to the floor.

"You need that. You almost died. Shit we need to call the doctor."

He rolled his eyes.

"Will you calm down? I'm fine."

"You almost died, I don't think fine is the right word."

Did he not remember what happened to him? Was this a side effect?

"You really need the doctor." I tell him.

"Relax."

I move towards the door. He must have gone crazy somehow. Maybe from the suffocation. The doctor would know what to do, he was the professional in this field.

"I didn't almost die." He says suddenly.

I turn to face him in confusion. Then I remember, must be another side effect.

"You did. You were smothered." My throat constricted tightly as I think about it. I was so going to kill whoever did that.

"Yeah. He was an amateur by the way." He shook his head in disgust as if the lack of skill was the problem here.

"I'm sorry what?"

I remember from my last days in high school that when blood circulation was cut off from the brain, oxygen would be cut off too. And those were pretty vital things to a brain's functionality. Meaning in those seconds his brain didn't get them, he might have gone crazy.

Great. Just great. A crazy human thief for a mate. Thank you moon goddess.

"He stopped pressing down the second I stopped struggling. Should have checked on me before leaving." He made disapproving noises while shaking his head.

"So you would have preferred if he was a professional?"

He waved his hand dismissively.

"Nah, I still would have survived it."

Okay so he was very much crazy.

"Really? How?"

I figured if he won't let me to go the doctor, I could engage in his discussion till the doctor came by, after all, he would be here soon.

"Pretty easy to do when you have been smothered more than once."

I frown.

"What do you mean more than once?"

"I am a member of a cult. Do you really need to ask that? I have escaped death a number of times and most of the time they were death by smothering." He explained casually like it was no big deal.

"What kind of life were living before I met you?" I ask in sheer horror. I knew he was a thief, but not someone who had tasted death on numerous occasions.

He smirked at me.

"A dangerous one. I like living my life on the edge of death you see."

I almost smack his face. I only restrain myself because there was no need. It was none of my concern if he lived his life carelessly, I was not going to accept him so it was totally out of place for me to concern myself with him.

"So you got out of the near death experience by playing dead?"

He grinned and snapped his finger in my face like I solved a big equation.

"Bingo."

"No need to stay at the hospital then. You can walk by yourself right?"

"Actually, there is need for me to stay at the hospital."

To cure his crazy? I'm not sure the doctor here doubled as a psychiatrist.

"Why?"

"I thought long and hard about who would want me dead. But the list goes on and on, it might be endless."

Of course. He was easily hate-able.

"But none of them know where I am. Heck I have no idea where I am." He continued.

"You would if you handed over the corona."

He snorts as if what I was asking for was too much.

"Yeah, not gonna happen Princess. Any way. The only person that would kill me here, is you." He finished.

My eyes widen. I could not even bear to see him hurt and he suspects that I tried to kill him. That hurts even more than I could imagine.

"But you sounded so distressed that something like this happened to me. Plus the fact that I have something you want, put you off the suspect list. The facts were not adding up."

I blink. So he was smart. Of course, a dumb thief would have been a caught thief.

"It seems like you don't know who tried it either." He wasn't asking. He was stating a fact.

"No, I don't. We found the amateurs but they have no idea who is behind it. We are working on it." I don't know why I felt the need to explain myself, maybe because he was a victim of the situation. I also have no clue why I felt very much incompetent under his gaze. It took every nerve in me not to squirm.

"Very well." He looked deep in thought.

I'm about to say something when he looks at me with that evil smirk again.

"another thing about me, Princess. Whoever tried to smother me has never gone scot-free. Never."
