There's a splash of blood on my face from where Calli worked with the rogue. I stare at the screaming form of the rogues. Their heads thrown back in pain, their mouths open and raw groans of pain erupts from where I think is the very being of our soul. I feel nothing, no empathy towards them. Only anger. Their screams would get them nowhere if they won't be giving me the information I needed.
"M. I don't think they know more than they have told us." Robert sounded like he forced the words out, he wanted to be the voice of reasoning, even when he knew they deserved it.
"Leave Robert. If you can't watch leave." My voice was as hostile as I felt.
"I can watch, it's just that, if this is all they know then we are wasting our time with them instead of going out to find the real culprits " He reasoned in a very even tone. Exactly what I needed, a voice of reason.
"Very well. Did you find Frank Cook? He is the one we should be asking." I cross my hands across my chest, a feeble attempt to stop myself from reaching out and tearing the rogues to pieces.
"Our men are searching for him as we speak. They should be back in no time."
I bite my lip in worry, what was taking Erin so long? Why was he not back yet?
"Any news on where the human might be?" I ask Robert.
Just as he is about to answer, Erin walks in. I can't explain the relief I felt in that moment.
"You're back." I don't particularly care if the relief I felt was in my voice or on my face.
He gives me a nod that feels like a hug, comforting. His eyes scan the entire cell, landing on Calli's messy work, he grimaces, then he looks up to me.
"Are they the rogues that suffocated him?" his eyes scanned my face as if asking how I was doing, after all it was my mate that this happened to.
"Yes." There was a lump in my throat as I answer.
"Have they given any information?"
"They were paid with food and their young ones were taken if they killed off the human." Robert answered for me, I would not have had the strength to answer without choking.
"Paid off by who?"
"That's the thing. They say they don't know. They have no clue. They had never seen them before and with their wolves so weak they can't place their scent."
Erin frowned in a way that his brows almost touch each other.
"And they left their cubs with them?"
Desperation. They were desperate, it was obvious they did it in hopes their cubs survived, even if they didn't.
"Doesn't matter. What matters is the fact that the deed has already been done. These are just scape goats, we need to find someone that will lead us to the brain behind the operation." I tell them.
"Calli! That's enough. We need them alive to give us the distinct features of the ones they met. Anything they can give us to find them." I tell Calli.
"Copy that, M." Calli grinned at me. I refuse to shudder.
"Robert, what's taking your men so long? Frank Cook is very important at this time."
Robert looked around as if searching for his men. Then he bowed slightly,
"I should go help them out." He jogs out before I can stop him.
Unable to hold back any longer, I turn to look at Erin.
"is he..d..?" unable to pronounce the word, my heart jumped up and down in my chest, I was afraid it was going to come out of my mouth.
Erin shook his head slightly, I would be relieved but the look on his face was still very much grim.
"He is not dead. That much I can tell you."
I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding.
"Where is he?" my voice sounds choked, even to my own ears.
"In the hospital.."
I don't wait to hear the end of the sentence, I take off in the direction of the hospital. He's alive, that's the best news I ever heard. I could feel Grace's happiness and mine mix together, a blend so rare it pushed me to go even faster, trees and dens whizzed by me in a blur of colours, it was hard to tell them apart.
"He is alive. Our mate is alive." Grace's high pitched voice tells me.
I laugh a little before running into the hospital.
"Yes Grace, our mate is alive. He would not be ours if he didn't have the fighting spirit."
I follow his scent, very distinct, being the only human in a hospital building made for werewolves especially since there were very werewolves the building, I'm very thankful for pack wars right now, if there was no war, there would be no need for the hospital and if there was no hospital, there would have been nowhere for him to get treated.
"M." A very shocked man bowed before me. That made two of us.
"Who are you?" I realize it was a dumb question to ask considering the fact he was dressed in a white coat.
"I'm the doctor in charge of the human's case." He sounded confident.
I stopped in front of his room and it skipped my mind that there would be doctors here.
"The human. How is he?" i ask, peeping through the glass door to find my mate laying on the bed, with machines surrounding him, beeping every two minutes. His eyes were shut but he was breathing, he was alive.
"Thankfully, he is still with us. But he is in what humans call, Comatose."
I scrunch up my brows in confusion.
"Basically, he is in a sleep like state." The doctor explained, something tells me he put it in the simplest form he knew.
I blink.
"When will he wake up?"
He shrugged.
"No idea. He will wake up when he wants to."
"What do you mean? You just said he's asleep."
"not asleep. It's a sleep like state."
"Can't we wake him up then?" my eyes fly to the still form of my mate, his eyes still shut, his chest rose and fell in rhythmic patterns.
"Unfortunately not, that's not how it works. He has to come to by himself."
I felt myself deflate. I was so excited and now this?
"He isn't hurt any other place?"
"We can't say for sure until he wakes up. Whenever that might be."
My throat ran dry instantly. I wanted nothing more than to send him back him to his normal stealing life, where he would fall in love, get married and have a family. Not lay in a hospital where he knew no one and had people trying to kill him for nothing.
Then I see something. His hand twitched.
